Omnidirectional visual content has attracted the attention of customers in a variety of applications because it provides viewers with a realistic experience. Among the techniques that are used to construct omnidirectional media, a viewport rendering technique is one of the most important modules. That is because users can perceptually evaluate the quality of the omnidirectional service based on the quality of the viewport picture. To increase the perceptual quality of an omnidirectional service, we propose an efficient algorithm to render the viewport. In this study, we analyzed the distortions in the viewport picture to be the result of sampling. This is because the image data for the unit sphere in the omnidirectional visual system are non-uniformly sampled to provide the viewport picture in the conventional algorithms. We propose an advanced algorithm to construct the viewport picture, in which the viewport plane is constructed using a curved surface, whereas conventional methods use flat square surfaces. The curved surface makes the sampling interval more equally spaced than conventional techniques. The simulation results show that the proposed technique outperforms the conventional algorithms with respect to the objective quality based on the criteria of straightness, conformality, and subjective perceptual quality.

In recent years, PCs have become very popular for a wide range of applications, such as immersive virtual reality scenarios. As a consequence, in the last couple of years, there has been a great effort to develop novel acquisition, representation, compression, and transmission solutions for PC contents in the research community. In particular, the development of objective quality assessment methods that are able to predict the perceptual quality of PCs. In this paper, we present an effective novel method for assessing the quality of PCs, which is based on descriptors that extract perceptual color distance-based texture information of PC contents, called Perceptual Color Distance Patterns (PCDP). In this framework, the statistics of the extracted information are used to model the PC visual quality. Experimental results show that the proposed framework exhibit good and robust performance when compared with several state-of-the-art point cloud quality assessment (PCQA) methods.

The development of audio-visual quality models faces a number of challenges, including the integration of audio and video sensory channels and the modeling of their interaction characteristics. Commonly, objective quality metrics estimate the quality of a single component (audio or video) of the content. Machine learning techniques, such as autoencoders, offer as a very promising alternative to develop objective assessment models. This paper studies the performance of a group of autoencoder-based objective quality metrics on a diverse set of audio-visual content. To perform this test, we use a large dataset of audio-visual content (The UnB-AV database), which contains degradations in both audio and video components. The database has accompanying subjective scores collected on three separate subjective experiments. We compare our autoencoder-based methods, which take into account both audio and video components (multi-modal), against several objective (single-modal) audio and video quality metrics. The main goal of this work is to verify the gain or loss in performance of these single-modal metrics, when tested on audio-visual sequences.

BACKGROUND: Remotely guided ultrasound (US) examinations carried out by nonmedical personnel (novices) have been shown to produce clinically useful examinations, at least in small pilot studies. Comparison of the quality of such exams to those carried out by trained medical professionals is lacking in the literature. This study compared the objective quality and clinical utility of cardiac and pulmonary US examinations carried out by novices and trained physicians.METHODS: Cardiac and pulmonary US examinations were carried out by novices under remote guidance by an US expert and independently by US trained physicians. Exams were blindly evaluated by US experts for both a task-based objective score as well as a subjective assessment of clinical utility.RESULTS: Participating in the study were 16 novices and 9 physicians. Novices took longer to complete the US exams (median 641.5 s vs. 256 s). For the objective component, novices scored higher in exams evaluating for pneumothorax (100% vs. 87.5%). For the subjective component, novices more often obtained clinically useful exams in the assessment of cardiac regional wall motion abnormalities (56.3% vs. 11.1%). No other comparisons yielded statistically significant differences between the two groups. Both groups had generally higher scores for pulmonary examinations compared to cardiac. There was variability in the quality of exams carried out by novices depending on their expert guide.CONCLUSION: Remotely guided novices are able to carry out cardiac and pulmonary US examinations with similar, if not better, technical proficiency and clinical utility as US trained physicians, though they take longer to do so.Dufurrena Q, Ullah KI, Taub E, Leszczuk C, Ahmad S. Background: In this paper, we propose a secure image watermarking technique which is applied to grayscale and color images. It consists in applying the SVD (Singular Value Decomposition) in the Lifting Wavelet Transform domain for embedding a speech image (the watermark) into the host image. Methods: It also uses signature in the embedding and extraction steps. Its performance is justified by the computation of PSNR (Pick Signal to Noise Ratio), SSIM (Structural Similarity), SNR (Signal to Noise Ratio), SegSNR (Segmental SNR) and PESQ (Perceptual Evaluation Speech Quality). Results: The PSNR and SSIM are used for evaluating the perceptual quality of the watermarked image compared to the original image. The SNR, SegSNR and PESQ are used for evaluating the perceptual quality of the reconstructed or extracted speech signal compared to the original speech signal. Conclusion: The Results obtained from computation of PSNR, SSIM, SNR, SegSNR and PESQ show the performance of the proposed technique.

Background: In order to make up for the shortcomings of the traditional algorithm, Min-Min and Max-Min algorithm are combined on the basis of the traditional genetic algorithm. Methods: In this paper, a new cloud computing task scheduling algorithm is proposed, which introduces Min-Min and Max-Min algorithm to generate initialization population, and selects task completion time and load balancing as double fitness functions, which improves the quality of initialization population, algorithm search ability and convergence speed. Results: The simulation results show that the algorithm is superior to the traditional genetic algorithm and is an effective cloud computing task scheduling algorithm. Conclusion: Finally, this paper proposes the possibility of the fusion of the two quadratively improved algorithms and completes the preliminary fusion of the algorithm, but the simulation results of the new algorithm are not ideal and need to be further studied.

Background: Cell detection and counting is of essential importance in evaluating the quality of early-stage embryo. Full automation of this process remains a challenging task due to different cell size, shape, the presence of incomplete cell boundaries, partially or fully overlapping cells. Moreover, the algorithm to be developed should process a large number of image data of different quality in a reasonable amount of time. Methods: Multi-focus image fusion approach based on deep learning U-Net architecture is proposed in the paper, which allows reducing the amount of data up to 7 times without losing spectral information required for embryo enhancement in the microscopic image. Results: The experiment includes the visual and quantitative analysis by estimating the image similarity metrics and processing times, which is compared to the results achieved by two wellknown techniques—Inverse Laplacian Pyramid Transform and Enhanced Correlation Coefficient Maximization. Conclusion: Comparatively, the image fusion time is substantially improved for different image resolutions, whilst ensuring the high quality of the fused image.

Modern vehicles are equipped with various sensors, onboard units, and devices such as Application Unit (AU) that support routing and communication. In VANETs, traffic management and Quality of Service (QoS) are the main research dimensions to be considered while designing VANETs architectures. To cope with the issues of QoS faced by the VANETs, we design an efficient SDN-based architecture where we focus on the QoS of VANETs. In this paper, QoS is achieved by a priority-based scheduling algorithm in which we prioritize traffic flow messages in the safety queue and non-safety queue. In the safety queue, the messages are prioritized based on deadline and size using the New Deadline and Size of data method (NDS) with constrained location and deadline. In contrast, the non-safety queue is prioritized based on First Come First Serve (FCFS) method. For the simulation of our proposed scheduling algorithm, we use a well-known cloud computing framework CloudSim toolkit. The simulation results of safety messages show better performance than non-safety messages in terms of execution time.

Huge rectangular ingots becomes crying needs in the condition of lots of heavy plate mills more than 5m have been in operation. In this paper, a special method of wind cooling outside mould has been presented and applied to produce 60t rectangular ingot. Mathematical simulation results tell us that by wind cooling, the solidification time of the 60t ingot can be shortened by 67 minutes, internal soundness can be ensured. The wind cooling process can obviously improve microstructure and preventing skull patch by increasing the thickness of solidified shell. A 60 tons huge rectangular ingot is successfully produced by wind cooling, the surface quality of is very well and the internal soundness should be improved further.
