A Wheeler method for the evaluation of the radiation efficiency of submerged antennas within lossy media is presented and demonstrated for the first time in the literature. Extensive investigations have been devised by empirical and simulation methods. Normal-mode helical antenna (NMHA) was first designed and fabricated to exemplify a real-life application at the UHF band (0.3 to 3 GHz). The antenna under test (AUT) was evaluated within an artificial lossy material using a series of Wheeler caps featuring different radii to study the validity of this method. The error between the experimental and simulation radiation efficiency is below 3% near the theoretical radian length. The presented measurement method of radiation efficiency without any essential measurement facilities or accessories could be a promising candidate for fast and accurate evaluation for any wire-type antenna submerged within lossy media.

Fostered by the emerging Knowledge Society, the enriched media is nowadays a very challenging research topic, be it considered either from academic or from industrial perspectives. In its largest acceptation, enriched media refers to all possible associations established between some original data (video, audio, 3D, …) and some metadata (textual, audio, video, executable codes, …). Such a new content may be further exploited for various applications, like interactive HDTV, computer games, or data mining, for instance. This chapter is meant to bring into evidence the role watermarking techniques may play in this new applicative field. Following the watermarking philosophy, the in-band enrichment supposed that the enrichment data are inserted into the very data to be enriched. Thus, three main advantages are ensured: backward compatibility, format coherence, and virtually no network overhead. The discussion is structured on both theoretical aspects (the accurate evaluation of the watermarking capacity in several real-life scenarios) and on applications developed under the framework of the R&D contracts conducted at the ARTEMIS Department, Institut TELECOM.

Cloud manufacturing (CMfg) is a new manufacturing paradigm designed to enable manufacturing enterprise to share their resources and capabilities. Prior to any real-life change in the system, for CMfg it is important to anticipate and optimize the response of the system through simulation. Digital Twins (DT) is a simulation method for this paradigm that is different from existing simulation methods in two ways. It is a virtual copy of the system containing all the components and can connect to the controller in real time. The goal of this work is to develop a DT for an educational manufacturing cell. The educational manufacturing cell is a FESTO Reconfigurable Mechatronics System (RMS). The cell has four stations that uses pallets to transport the product on the conveyor belt and assembles a part of the product. The Siemens Process Simulate: TECNOMATIX, was used to create the DT of the system. The system is modeled in a CAD program and then imported into TECNOMATIX Process Simulate, where it is programmed to replicate the processes.

Present research proposes the application of unsupervised and supervised machine-learning techniques to characterize Android malware families. More precisely, a novel unsupervised neural-projection method for dimensionality-reduction, namely, Beta Hebbian Learning (BHL), is applied to visually analyze such malware. Additionally, well-known supervised Decision Trees (DTs) are also applied for the first time in order to improve characterization of such families and compare the original features that are identified as the most important ones. The proposed techniques are validated when facing real-life Android malware data by means of the well-known and publicly available Malgenome dataset. Obtained results support the proposed approach, confirming the validity of BHL and DTs to gain deep knowledge on Android malware.

AbstractPat Hanna's Famous Diggers, a professional vaudeville theatre troupe comprising ex-Great War Anzac soldiers (initially, mainly New Zealanders, as Hanna was himself) played for nearly two years (1923–24) at the old Cremorne Theatre in Brisbane. One item Hanna premiered at the Cremorne was Louis XI, a short (ten-minute) comic sketch he wrote himself. Modernism in the inter-war years, given its usual location within avant-garde aesthetics, high culture, internationalism and radical politics, is not — with the notable exception of Brecht's cabaret work in the 1920s — usually associated with popular theatre. While one comic playlet hardly challenges that positioning, Louis XI was a direct result of the Great War's profound reshaping of modern life. Many of the dramatised sketches performed by Hanna's company, including Louis XI, were structured around a contrast between events as they had occurred in the trenches and as they were portrayed in a utopian or dystopian fantasy, sometimes triggered by shell shock or a dream. Several, again including Louis XI, involve the past, and express the curiosity and cultural dislocation Australian- and New Zealand-born soldiers felt as they moved for the first time through real-life landscapes and architecture they had known only from popular history and romance.

The rule-of-law procedure against Poland, opened in January 2016, has painfully tested the safeguards supposed to protect the EU's fundamental values. It is now obvious that the protective mechanisms need to be strengthened. For in their current form, tested in real life for the first time, they have not dissuaded the present Polish government, led by the nationalist Law and Justice party (Prawo i Sprawiedliwość, PiS), from seriously and continuously breaching the rules. All interested EU parties—that is, willing member states and institutions—should acknowledge this and start preparing modifications both to Article 7 of the Treaty on European Union, which includes a sanction mechanism, and to the European Commission's Rule of Law Framework, so that the EU's internal defences are strengthened for future needs.

The crystal structure with the idealized formula Mg3(OH)5Cl·4H2O, the so-called F5 phase according to 5Mg(OH)2·MgCl2·8H2O in the system MgCl2–MgO–H2O, has been solved ab initio from high-quality laboratory powder diffraction data at room temperature. The F5 phase is structurally related to 3Mg(OH)2·MgCl2·8H2O (F3 form). The F5 phase consists of infinite triple chains with one Mg(OH)6 and two Mg(OH)4(OH2)2 octahedra as building units intercalated by chlorides, which are partly substituted by disordered hydroxides in the real structure. The F5 phase is of technological importance as the most important binder phase in Sorel cements. Knowledge of the crystal structure enables the full quantitative phase analysis of magnesia cements for the first time, which turns out to be very helpful in the search for possible causes of broken or bleached magnesia floors. Two real-life examples are given.
