Ore retention bunkers and receiving bins are important for continuous operation of transport system in a mine. Although the designs of the bins used in the KGHM PM S.A. mines have undergone modifications, their operating principle has remained unchanged since their initial commissioning. Their operation entails many problems, which are caused by the durability and functionality of the entire structure. Preventive actions and research into directions for possible modernizations require the type of damage and its reasons to be identified in the first place. This article presents an evaluation of the documented types of damage and an analysis of the repair works performed for the entire population of the receiving bins operated in one mine. The comparative evaluation of the bin failure rate is here proposed to be performed with the use of a number-based failure indicator and of a mass indicator. The key problem identified in the research was the wear and tear on steel elements due to abrasive processes. The linings of the bin elements were observed to undergo intensive abrasive wear. This abrasive wear of the analyzed bin elements is influenced by a combination of factors, the most important of which include variable physical and mechanical properties of the copper ore.

To protect and repair details of equipment, subjected to abrasive and shock-and-abrasive wear, a build-up of hard alloy is widely used to increase the wear resistance of details, operating under abrasion conditions. Cored wires of Fe−C−Si−Мn−Сr−Ni−Mo system of type A and B by MIS classification are the main wires used for wear-resistant build-up in Russia. For effective application of building-up wires it is necessary to know the dependence of built-up layer hardness and its wear resistance on mass share of elements included into the composition of the cored wires systems. Influence of chemical composition of he built-up layer, obtained by the building-up with application of new powder systems of Fe−C−Si−Мn−Сr−Ni−Mo, protected by RF patents, on its physical and mechanical properties studied. Based on the results of the multifactor correlation analysis accomplished, dependences of the built-up layer hardness and its wear resistance on mass share of elements included into the composition of the cored wires of Fe−C−Si−Мn−Сr−Ni−Mo system determined. The dependences obtained were used for forecasting of the built-up layer hardness and its wear resistance at changes of the chemical composition of the built-up layer. The tests of JOY 4LS20 mining machine screw protective plates at Kemerovo region mines, built-up by the elaborated cored wire, showed an increase of the resistance by 19.3% comparing with the analog plates built-up by DRATEC wire.

A computational technique of comparative evaluation of polymer material quality in a homogeneous set of samples according to a complex geometric criterion is proposed. Samples of physical and mechanical parameters of samples of industrial impact-resistant polystyrene are used for calculation. The most averaged complex of physical and mechanical properties is used as the calculation base.

Results of studies on the modification of Al-7%SiMg alloy with a homogeneous modifier obtained by fast cooling of homogeneous modifiers at V=200 K/s are presented in the paper. Homogeneous modifiers are additions designed for modification of the alloys from which they were obtained at 0, 7, 12 and 20% Si. The components were put into a crucible containing liquid Al-Si alloy and kept there for one minute. The effects of cooling rate and w/w concentration of the modifier in the melt on structure and tensile strength, percentage elongation, Brinell hardness, abrasive wear are illustrated graphically. The analysis of the process of hypo-eutectic Al-Si alloy modification with a homogeneous modifier obtained from treated alloy by fast cooling shows that this modifying addition affected structural, physical and mechanical properties of Al-7%SiMg alloy.

Antiwear chemistry is related to the role of tribochemical reactions in controlling abrasive wear, adhesive wear as well as physical and mechanical properties of tribofilms. In the case of additives in boundary lubrication, three different chemical reactions have been found to be directly connected to mechanical response. First one is the digestion of hard metal oxides in the glassy tribofilm formed from the antiwear additives, thus combating with abrasive wear. Second reaction is the reaction of sulphur species with nascent metal surfaces, reducing adhesive wear between antagonist metal surfaces. The third reaction is an equilibrium one in the stressed tribofilm, leading to a change of mechanical properties of the tribofilm and explaining its smart behavior.

The article provides information on the physical and mechanical properties of polymer-bitumen compositions obtained by modifying road bitumen BND 50/70 with elastomers SKEPT-60 and SKN-26 and determination of the obtained polymer-bitumen composites. The properties of composite samples of various concentrations (2.5, 3.0, 5.0%, 6.5 and 7.0%) were determined: needle depth, softening, brittleness and flash point, stretching and adhesion. It was determined that the physical and mechanical characteristics of polymer-bitumen composite materials obtained at high concentrations (6.5, 7.0%) are improved

The paper presents the results of the studies devoted to justification and development of methods and means of high-speed thin layer coating. It outlines the layer conditions formation, as well as the requirements for the individual components and surfacing installation assemblies. The following equipment items are designed and manufactured for the implementation of the developed coating processes: surfacing rack, feeding device rotating filler, surfacing head-die and others. The paper presents the completely temperature pattern detailed calculation program with differential-difference scheme-line obtained from a combination of explicit and implicit schemes. The mechanical properties, residual stress, fatigue strength, hardness and microstructure of the coating, etc. have been undertaken as well. The paper recommends the technology to restore worn surfaces of the cylindrical parts with little wear and tear (up to 0.3 mm) and to impart special physical and mechanical properties of the manufactured machine parts surfaces.
