The increasing amount of data in electromyographic (EMG) signal research has greatly increased the importance of developing advanced data analysis and machine learning techniques which are better able to handle “big data”. Consequently, more advanced applications of EMG pattern recognition have been developed. This paper begins with a brief introduction to the main factors that expand EMG data resources into the era of big data, followed by the recent progress of existing shared EMG data sets. Next, we provide a review of recent research and development in EMG pattern recognition methods that can be applied to big data analytics. These modern EMG signal analysis methods can be divided into two main categories: (1) methods based on feature engineering involving a promising big data exploration tool called topological data analysis; and (2) methods based on feature learning with a special emphasis on “deep learning”. Finally, directions for future research in EMG pattern recognition are outlined and discussed.

Every single day, a massive amount of data is generated by different medical data sources. Processing this wealth of data is indeed a daunting task, and it forces us to adopt smart and scalable computational strategies, including machine intelligence, big data analytics, and data classification. The authors can use the Big Data analysis for effective decision making in healthcare domain using the existing machine learning algorithms with some modification to it. The fundamental purpose of this article is to summarize the role of Big Data analysis in healthcare, and to provide a comprehensive analysis of the various techniques involved in mining big data. This article provides an overview of Big Data, applicability of it in healthcare, some of the work in progress and a future works. Therefore, in this article, the use of machine learning techniques is proposed for real-time diabetic patient data analysis from IoT devices and gateways.

Big Data Analytics and Deep Learning are not supposed to be two entirely different concepts. Big Data means extremely huge large data sets that can be analyzed to find patterns, trends. One technique that can be used for data analysis so that able to help us find abstract patterns in Big Data is Deep Learning. If we apply Deep Learning to Big Data, we can find unknown and useful patterns that were impossible so far. With the help of Deep Learning, AI is getting smart. There is a hypothesis in this regard, the more data, the more abstract knowledge. So a handy survey of Big Data, Deep Learning and its application in Big Data is necessary.

The Internet of Vehicles (IoV) is a developing technology attracting attention from the industry and the academia. Hundreds of millions of vehicles are projected to be connected within the IoV environments by 2035. Each vehicle in the environment is expected to generate massive amounts of data. Currently, surveys on leveraging deep learning (DL) in the IoV within the context of big data analytics (BDA) are scarce. In this paper, we present a survey and explore the theoretical perspective of the role of DL in the IoV within the context of BDA. The study has unveiled substantial research opportunities that cut across DL, IoV, and BDA. Exploring DL in the IoV within BDA is an infant research area requiring active attention from researchers to fully understand the emerging concept. The survey proposes a model of IoV environment integrated into the cloud equipped with a high-performance computing server, DL architecture, and Apache Spark for data analytics. The current developments, challenges, and opportunities for future research are presented. This study can guide expert and novice researchers on further development of the application of DL in the IoV within the context of BDA.

The COVID-19 epidemic has caused a large number of human losses and havoc in the economic, social, societal, and health systems around the world. Controlling such epidemic requires understanding its characteristics and behavior, which can be identified by collecting and analyzing the related big data. Big data analytics tools play a vital role in building knowledge required in making decisions and precautionary measures. However, due to the vast amount of data available on COVID-19 from various sources, there is a need to review the roles of big data analysis in controlling the spread of COVID-19, presenting the main challenges and directions of COVID-19 data analysis, as well as providing a framework on the related existing applications and studies to facilitate future research on COVID-19 analysis. Therefore, in this paper, we conduct a literature review to highlight the contributions of several studies in the domain of COVID-19-based big data analysis. The study presents as a taxonomy several applications used to manage and control the pandemic. Moreover, this study discusses several challenges encountered when analyzing COVID-19 data. The findings of this paper suggest valuable future directions to be considered for further research and applications.

AbstractNowadays, big data is a widely utilized concept that has been spreading quickly in almost every domain. For pharmaceutical companies, using this concept is a challenging task because of the permanent pressure and business demands created through the legal requirements, research demands and standardization that have to be adopted. These legal and standards’ demands are associated with human healthcare safety and drug control that demands continuous and deep data analysis. Companies update their procedures to the particular laws, standards, market demands and regulations all the time by using contemporary information technology. This paper highlights some important aspects of the experience and change methodology used in one Macedonian pharmaceutical company, which has employed information technology solutions that successfully tackle legal and business pressures when dealing with a large amount of data. We used a holistic view and deliverables analysis methodology to gain top-down insights into the possibilities of big data analytics. Also, structured interviews with the company’s managers were used for information collection and proactive methodology with workshops was used in data integration toward the implementation of big data concepts. The paper emphasizes the information and knowledge used in this domain to improve awareness for the needs of big data analysis to achieve a competitive advantage. The main results are focused on systematizing the whole company’s data, information and knowledge and propose a solution that integrates big data to support managers’ decision-making processes.
