Under the infrastructure of three gradually deepening layers consisting of System, Service and Software, the information entropy of the Trustworthy Workflow Management System (TWfMS) will evolve from being more precise to more undetermined, due to a series of exception event X occurring on certain components (ExCs), along with the life cycle of TWfMS, experienced in its phased original, as-is, to-be, and agile-consistent stages, and recover, more precisely again, by turning back to the original state from the agile-consistent stage, due to its self-autonomous improvement. With a special emphasis on the system layer, to assure the trustworthiness of WfMS, this paper firstly introduces the preliminary knowledge of the hierarchical information entropy model with correlation theories. After illustrating the fundamental principle, the transformation rule is deduced, step by step, followed by a case study, which is conducive to generating discussions and conclusions in the different research areas of TWfMS. Overall, in this paper, we argue that the trustworthiness maintenance of WfMS could be analyzed and computational, through the viewpoint that all the various states of TWfMS can be considered as the transformation between WfMS and its trustworthiness compensate components, whose information entropy fluctuate repeatedly and comply with the law of the dissipative structure system.

Timber truss systems are very efficient load-bearing structures. They allow for great freedom in design and are characterised by high material use in combination with a low environmental impact. Unfortunately, the extensive effort in design and production have made the manufacturing and application of these structures, in this day and age, a rarity. In addition, the currently mainly used steel gusset plates adversely affect the costs and environmental impact of the trusses. The authors’ goals are to optimise the design of timber trusses and to solely use wood for all building components. The two research areas, (1) optimisation of the truss geometry and (2) optimisation of the joints by using solely wood–wood connections, are addressed in this paper. The numerical optimisation strategy is based on a parametric design of the truss and the use of a genetic solver for the optimisation regarding minimal material consumption. Furthermore, first results of the tensile and compression behaviour of the chosen wood–wood connections are presented. The basic idea for the joints is to use a plywood plate as a connector, which is inserted into the truss members and fixed with wooden pegs. The housing of the new robot laboratory located at BOKU Vienna is considered a special case study for the research and serves as an accompanying example for the application of the research within the present paper.

AbstractInteractive systems have largely evolved over the past years. Nowadays, different users can interact with systems on different devices and in different environments. The user interfaces (UIs) are expected to cope with such variety. Plastic UIs have the capacity to adapt to changes in their context of use while preserving usability. Such capability enhances UIs, however, it adds complexity on them. We propose an approach to verifying interactive systems considering this adaptation capability of the UIs. The approach applies two formal techniques: model checking, to the verification of properties over the system model, and equivalence checking, to compare different versions of a UI, thereby identifying different levels of UI equivalence. We apply the approach to a case study in the nuclear power plant domain in which several UI are analyzed, properties are verified, and the level of equivalence between them is demonstrated.

This article uses a case-study approach to discuss the effects of Chinese economic engagement on three dimensions of human capital development: local employment, training and skill building, and knowledge and technology transfer. The study findings suggests that Chinese economic engagement can and does contribute to human capital development in Africa; however, this is dependent on certain sectoral factors and contextual conditions. This study advances a working hypothesis that the human capital development impact of Chinese economic engagement will vary across countries and sectors of the African economy. This working hypothesis seeks to guide further research towards developing a theoretical framework for the study of Chinese economic engagement in Africa and its effects on human capital development. The article also identifies research areas that should be further explored in order to gain a deeper understanding of the impact of Chinese economic engagement in Africa.

<p class="Abstrak">Sistem Informasi Geografi (SIG) dengan layanan informasi pengelolaan lahan yang cocok sehingga lahan akan bernilai ekonomi, oleh karenanya penelitian ini membahas pemetaan dan pengkajian potensi sumber daya lahan pesisir dalam mendukung usaha budidaya, pariwisata, konservasi, dan daerah tangkapan ikan yang berkelanjutan. Metode penelitian secara deskriptif memakai pendekatan survei untuk pengamatan wilayah penelitian dan pengumpulan data sekunder serta pendekatan analisis spasial untuk parameter dan kriteria kesesuaian lahan. Teknik pengolahan dan analisis data ini menggunakan <em>software</em> SIG yakni <em>ArcGIS</em> 10.1 dengan model <em>skorin</em>g dan <em>overlay</em>. Hasil penelitian dengan studi kasus Kepulauan Padaido ini dapat disimpulkan bahwa saat ini dengan adanya SIG yang dibangun, Pemerintah Daerah Biak Numfor sudah dapat mengolah lahan pesisir untuk dimanfaatkan sesuai dengan potensi lahan yang seharusnya, seperti potensi lahan untuk usaha budidaya rumput laut seluas 13.269,41 ha atau 94%, untuk budidaya teripang seluas 7.069,91 ha atau 83%, sebagai aktifitas pariwisata pesisir seluas 7.778,45 ha atau 86%, sebagai kegiatan konservasi seluas 2.957,54 ha atau 163%, untuk daerah tangkapan ikan karang seluas 2.078,92 ha atau 80%, dan sebagai daerah tangkapan ikan pelagis 1.585,61 ha atau 87%.</p><p class="Abstrak"> </p><p class="Abstrak"><em><strong>Abstract</strong></em></p><p><em>Geographic Information System (GIS) with suitable land management information services so that the land will be of economic value, therefore this study discusses the mapping and assessment of the potential of coastal land resources in supporting sustainable aquaculture, tourism, conservation, and fishing grounds. The descriptive research method uses a survey approach for observation of research areas and secondary data collection as well as a spatial analysis approach for land suitability parameters and criteria. This data processing and analysis technique uses GIS software namely ArcGIS 10.1 with a scoring and overlay model. The results of the study with the Padaido Islands case study can be concluded that currently with the GIS being built, the Regional Government of Biak Numfor has been able to cultivate coastal land to be used according to the potential of the land that should be, such as the potential land for seaweed cultivation business area of 13,269.41 ha or 94%, for sea cucumber cultivation covering 7,069.91 ha or 83%, as coastal tourism activities covering 7,778.45 ha or 86%, as conservation activities covering 2,957.54 ha or 163%, for reef catchments covering 2,078.92 ha or 80%, and as a pelagic catchment area 1,585.61 ha or 87%.</em><em></em></p><p> </p>

Management research has begun to investigate operational agility, the capability of organizations to adapt rapidly and incrementally in response to changing conditions. The purpose of this study is to bridge the discrete research areas of agile development and agile manufacturing, which exist within literature on operational agility, and to derive the principles of operational agility itself. It therefore combines previous research with evidence from an explorative single case study. The study identifies eight principles of operational agility which may guide practitioners to form organizations that can adapt rapidly. By deriving these principles, this case study is one of the first academic contributions to elaborate on an operating model that aims for agility on both an enterprise and business unit level. Overall, our findings enhance the understanding of operational agility, while revealing new insights into the transformation process of a leading agile organization.

An effort is made to give a description of a computer-aided conceptual design system. A novel Function-Action-Behavior-Mechanism (FABM) modeling framework is proposed to realize mapping from the overall function to principle solution according to customer’s requirements. Expansion and modification rules in the demand behavior are developed to extend the innovation of principle solution. A case study on pan mechanism design for cooking robot is presented to show the procedure of how to implement the intelligent reasoning based on the FABM model.
