Seaweeds are inevitable resources of nutrition bearing favorable rheological characteristics, which has resulted in their inclusion in a variety of daily consumer products. India, with its vast coastline and over 1000 species of seaweeds, presents tremendous potential to bring this resource into nutraceuticals and the food sector. The present survey was designed for the Indian population, which was further classified according to diet preferences, age groups, gender and various occupations. Their perceptions regarding nutritional aspects, sensory views, safety hazards and resource reliability were recorded. Among all groups studied, gender represented significant differences upon the various safety opinions recorded (p < 0.001) compared to the occupations, age groups and diet preferences studied. In addition, the dataset revealed the pro-phycological behavior of consumers subjected to vital concerns about bioresource reliability and pre-processing to avoid health hazards related to wild harvest or on-shore cultivated samples. In addition, consumer responses also revealed potential inhibitory factors in edible applications such as taste and smell. This study suggests that collaborative efforts among media, culinary experts and phycologists could play a pivotal role in promoting seaweeds in the rapidly expanding food sector industry of India.

ObjectiveCurrently effective symptom-based screening of patients suspected of COVID-19 is limited. We aimed to investigate age-related differences in symptom presentations of patients tested positive and negative for SARS-CoV-2.DesignSettingCalls to the medical helpline (1-8-1-3) and emergency number (1-1-2) in Copenhagen, Denmark. At both medical services all calls are recorded.ParticipantsWe included calls for patients who called for help/guidance at the medical helpline or emergency number prior to receiving a test for SARS-CoV-2 between April 1st and 20th 2020 (8423 patients). Among these calls, we randomly sampled recorded calls from 350 patients who later tested positive and 250 patients tested negative and registered symptoms described in the call.OutcomeResultsAfter exclusions, 544 calls (312 SARS-CoV-2 positive and 232 negative) were included in the analysis. Fever and cough remained the two most common of COVID-19 symptoms across all age groups and approximately 42% of SARS-CoV-2 positive and 20% of negative presented with both fever and cough. Symptoms including nasal congestion, irritation/pain in throat, muscle/joint pain, loss of taste and smell, and headache were common symptoms of COVID-19 for patients younger than 60 years; whereas loss of appetite and feeling unwell were more commonly seen among patients over 60 years. Headache and loss of taste and smell were rare symptoms of COVID-19 among patients over 60 years.ConclusionOur study identified age-related differences in symptom presentations of SARS-CoV-2-positive patients calling for help or medical advice. The specific symptoms of loss of smell or taste almost exclusively reported by patients younger than 60 years. Differences in symptom presentation across age groups must be considered when screening for COVID-19.

Consumer products are often associated with fall injuries, but there is limited research on nonfatal unintentional falls in children that examines both the child’s age group and the involvement of consumer products and activities. We combined 2 data sources to investigate products and activities that contribute to fall injuries in children at different developmental ages (ie, <1, 1-2, 3-4, 5-9, 10-14, and 15-19 years). We analyzed data from the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System–All Injury Program for the years 2010 through 2013 and augmented it with product information from the National Electronic Injury Surveillance System. Between 2010 and 2013, children aged <1 to 19 years accounted for 11.1 million nonfatal unintentional fall-related emergency department visits. Fall injuries associated with home furnishings/fixtures were highest among children in age groups <1 year, 1 to 2 years, and 3 to 4 years. In the home furnishings/fixtures product group, beds were the leading contributor to falls. Fall injuries associated with sports/recreation were highest among children in age groups 5 to 9 years, 10 to 14 years, and 15 to 19 years. In this product group, monkey bars and basketball were the leading contributors to falls. Our findings indicate priority areas for falls injury prevention and intervention.

Microsoft was interested in measuring the “fun” value of a new input device, the Microsoft® EasyBall™ mouse (designed specifically for two to six year olds), relative to three other input devices available in the marketplace. An evaluation was conducted as a means of ensuring that the ergonomic considerations incorporated into the design of a new child's pointing device addressed the emotional needs, as well as the physical and cognitive needs, of the intended users. A research and test methodology was established to look at this issue from multiple simultaneous perspectives, using both behavioral and verbal measures. Forty four children (half boys and half girls, mixed across the age levels) and their parents were included in the study. The children varied in their level of expertise with computer and/or video games. The same basic procedure was used for all the children, with adaptations made to accommodate the attention spans and skill levels of the youngest. The children indicated through a variety of converging measures that the Microsoft EasyBall mouse was their input device of choice. The patterns of behavior varied across the age groups, but the choices of the children were clearly in favor of the Microsoft EasyBall mouse. The parents were quite accurate at predicting which input device their child would pick. A detailed examination of the videotaped sessions provided cues that caused a rethinking of the initial question “How fun is the Microsoft EasyBall mouse relative to the other input devices?”. The fun factor may have been more accurately described as a “feel good” factor. Results are discussed in terms of implications for expanding the typical physical and cognitive-based ergonomics analyses for consumer products to include emotional considerations as well.

ABSTRACTOne hundred normal individuals of different age groups from Mumbai (India) were included in this study. Various dimensions of lip-nose complex were measured. The results were compared with the available data for blacks, Caucasians and Chinese. In the population under study lip-nose complex measurements differ in all dimensions with blacks and Caucasians and show resemblance to the Chinese. The analysis of the data does not simply indicate the differences in the measurements but also points out change in growth patterns which will have a clinical significance.

The pandemic caused by COVID-19 has led many states, in an attempt to control the spread of the virus, to decree social immobilization, which meant the introduction of restrictions on the free movement of people and the opening of shops. This led them to seek new marketing channels for purchases. Among these, ICTs have been important. This is the focus of the analysis in this document. Through surveys and interviews, information was obtained, divided into four age groups, which showed that an important part of the population has had to resort to ICTs to acquire goods and/or pay for services. This change in the way of acquiring had different particularities according to the age group analyzed, with a greater change in the oldest group (56 to 74 years old). It can be concluded that the massification of these tools has generated a change in the ways of acquiring products, and this is likely to transcend the pandemic and these channels will be maintained and strengthened in the future.

Results of a research study on the effects of age and work experience and their interaction on the occurrence of accidents in an agro-food sector are described. Three different levels of experience and six age groups were examined. Age and work experience significantly affected frequency and seriousness of accidents. A study of these two factors jointly shows that considerably higher rates of frequency and seriousness are found for the youngest and oldest subjects with low work experience. These analyses enable us to put forward several hypotheses concerning the mechanisms in the occurrence of accidents.

AbstractTitanium dioxide (TiO2) is a common additive that is increasingly used in consumer products, food, pharmaceutical dosage forms and cosmetic articles. However, due to size reduction of TiO2 particles from the microscale to the nanoscale, application areas of this material are expanding, especially in the food sector, which makes investigations of nano-TiO2 crucial. This review focuses on two important topics of current research regarding the oral pathway: 1) anatomy of the orogastrointestinal tract, composition of epithelial and mucus layer, and pH changes; 2) cell entry mechanisms, cytotoxicity and translocation. Sufficient knowledge on the oral uptake route is not yet available but is highly needed for human risk evaluation.

The aim of the study is to evaluate the deviation of the occlusal plane to three different points of the ala-tragus line among different age group in South Indian population. Incomplete denture prosthetics, there are four basic criteria that every satisfactory denture should achieve. They are aesthetics, phonetics, mastication and comfort. These requirements are attained by adopting proper techniques in complete denture construction. Thus, the exact determinations of the artificial occlusal plane in the upper occlusal rim while jaw registration procedures play an important role in attaining this objective. Considering the importance of the occlusal plane orientation in complete denture prostheses, planes which are steeper or inclined to the occlusal plane can be unaesthetic or cause difficulty in establishing balanced occlusion or centric occlusion, a study is done to evaluate the deviation of the occlusal plane to three different points of ala-tragus line among 15-20 years,20-30 years, 30-40 years age group individuals. Comparison of OP angle measurements with CP1, CP2 and CP3 within the four age groups. In the 15-20 years & 30-40 years age group, CP1 measurement was closest to OP followed by CP2. In the 20-30 year age groups, CP2 measurement was closest to OP followed by CP1. In the 40-50 year age groups, CP2 measurement was closest to OP followed by CP3. This study indicates or younger individual who is less than 40 years when the complete denture is constructed a superior point of external auditory meatus has to be taken as reference point & in an individual who is above 40 middlemost points of external auditory should be taken as reference point.
