Rare earths and yttrium (REY) distribution patterns of the hydrosphere reveal systematic correlations of Gd and Y anomalies besides the non-correlated redox-dependent Ce and Eu anomalies. Eu anomalies are inherited by dissolution of feldspars in igneous rocks, whereas Ce, Gd and Y anomalies develop in aqueous systems in contact with minerals and amorphous matter. Natural, positive Gd and Y anomalies in REY patterns characterize high-salinity fluids from the Dead Sea, Israel/Jordan, the Great Salt Lake, USA, the Aral Sea, Kazakhstan/Uzbekistan, ground- and surface water worldwide. Extreme Gd anomalies mostly originate from anthropogenic sources. The correlation of Gd and Y anomalies at low temperature in water bodies differ from geothermal ones. In nature, dynamic systems prevail in which either solids settle in water columns or water moves through permeable sediments or sedimentary rocks. In both cases, the anomalies in water develop due to repeated equilibration with solid matter. Thus, these anomalies provide information about the hydrological history of seawater, fresh groundwater and continental brines. When migrating, the interaction of aqueous phases with mineral surfaces leads to increasing anomalies because the more hydrophillic Gd and Y preferentially remain in the aqueous phase compared to their nearest neighbors. The correlation coefficients between Gd and Y anomalies in groundwater is 0.5–0.9. In lakes and oceans, it is about 0.1–0.8, under anomalous conditions it can increase to 1.

AbstractIsotopic ratios were used to identify the source of Lead (Pb) contamination in rural soils from Southeast China. Enrichment of Pb in surface soils was detected from three sampling locations, with the 206Pb/207Pb ratio indicating recent anthropogenic input. The 206Pb/207Pb ratio from deeper soil profiles reflected the ratio from parent basalt. Mass fractions of anthropogenic-derived Pb for soil samples in the upper profiles was as high as 50%, implying that surface soils in the current study were impacted by anthropogenic activity. The 206Pb/207Pb and 208Pb/206Pb ratios were similar to anthropogenic sources including the combustion of coal, which has been common practice in the region for 2500 years. Considering the relatively short history of petroleum use in this area and the rural location of soils, anthropogenic Pb source from coal burning was considered to be the main cause of lead pollution.

Atmospheric emission of heavy metals from different anthropogenic sources is a great concern to human beings due to their toxicities. In order to disclose the emission levels and the distribution patterns of zinc (Zn) in the modern cement industry with respect to its low boiling point (~900 °C) comparing to the high-temperature (1450 °C) clinker production process, solid samples representing the input and output flow of Zn during the entire production process in two preheater–precalciner cement plants (CPs) were collected and analyzed. For the first time, it was found that the behaviour of Zn inside different precalciner CPs was similar despite a huge difference in the Zn inputs to the CPs; namely, almost all the Zn input was output in clinker, which was then mixed with different additives and retarder to make cement products. The high-temperature clinkerisation process would incorporate Zn into the aluminosilicate of clinker. As a result, there was no enrichment of Zn during clinker production and the atmospheric emission factor was relatively low at 0.002%, or 1.28–9.39 mg Zn·t−1 clinker. Our result for the atmospheric Zn emissions from CPs was much lower than most previous reports, implying the CPs were not a crucial Zn emission source. However, the higher load of Zn in some raw/alternative materials—like nonferrous smelting slag with a Zn content of ~2%—could greatly increase the content of Zn in clinker and cement products. Therefore, further investigation on the environmental stability of Zn in such Zn-laden cement and concrete should be carried out.

Purpose: To investigate the repeatability of a combined Dual-Scheimpflug placido disc corneal topographer (Zeimer Galilei G4) with respect to keratometric indices used to monitor progression of keratoconus (KCN). Methods: Patients with KCN were prospectively enrolled. For each eye lacking history of corneal surgery, 5 measurements were taken in succession. Eyes in which 3 or more measurements could be obtained (defined by the device's 4 image quality metrics) were included in the analysis. The repeatability limits (RL) and interclass correlation coefficients (ICC) were calculated for various parameters. Results: 32 eyes from 25 patients met all image quality metrics, and 54 eyes from 38 patients met at least 3/4 criteria (all except the placido image quality metric). RLs for key parameters when 4/4 or 3/4 image quality metrics were met included: 0.37 and 0.77 diopters (D) for steep simulated keratometry, 0.79 and 1.65 D for maximum keratometry, 13.80 and 13.88 degrees for astigmatism axis, 0.64 and 0.56 um for vertical coma magnitude, and 3.76 and 3.84 um for thinnest pachymetry, respectively. The ICCs for all parameters were excellent [above 0.87 except for spherical aberration (0.77)]. Conclusions: The dual-Scheimpflug placido disc corneal topographer is highly repeatable in quantifying parameters used in monitoring KCN. Excellent placido images are difficult to capture in eyes with KCN, but when available, increase the reliability of the measurements. The RLs may be especially helpful in detecting progression in mild KCN when interventions such as corneal cross-linking or intrastromal corneal ring segments are most beneficial.

Pendahuluan : Difteri adalah suatu infeksi yang disebabkan oleh bakteri Corybacterium diphteriae, yang menyerang selaput lendir pada hidung dan tenggorokan, serta dapat mempengaruhi kulit. Penyakit ini sangat menular dan termasuk infeksi serius yang berpotensi mengancam jiwa.Tujuan : Penelitian ini bertujuan untuk menganalisis pola distribusi kasus difteri di Kabupaten Bojonegoro pada tahun 2009– 2019 (Agustus 2019).Metode : Penelitian ini dilakukan pada tanggal l5 Agustus-18 September 2019 di Kabupaten Bojonegoro. Penelitian ini adalah penelitian deskriptif dengan menggunakan data sekunder berupa laporan bulanan kasus difteri yang dilaporkan oleh Puskesmas atau Rumah Sakit di Wilayah kerja Dinas Kesehatan Kabupaten Bojonegoro dan hasil wawancara dengan Kepala Seksi Surveilans dan Imunisasi, serta Penanggungjawab Program Surveilans Difteri di Dinas Kesehatan Kabupaten Bojonegoro.Hasil : Hasil penelitian menunjukkan bahwa berdasarkan usia kasus difteri di Kabupaten Bojonegoro tertinggi terjadi pada kelompok usia 5-9 tahun (29,16%). Berdasarkan jenis kelamin sebagian besar terjadi pada jenis kelamin laki-laki (61,84%). Berdasarkan status imunisasi, kejadian difteri terjadi pada kelompok usia < 1tahun. Berdasarkan tempat, kejadian difteri di Kabupaten Bojonegoro sering terjadi di Kecamatan Bojonegoro. Berdasarkan waktu, kejadian difteri terjadi pada periode Januari-Maret dan Agustus-Desember.Kesimpulan : Kasus penyakit difteri di Kabupaten Bojonegoro dari tahun 2009 sampai dengan Agustus 2019 cenderung fluktuatif. Pada tahun 2009 hingga tahun 2012 kasus difteri di Kabupaten Bojonegoro mengalami peningkatan yang signifikan dan mengalami penurunan di tahun 2013 dan 2014. Kemudian pada tahun 2015, kasus difteri mengalami peningkatan kembali dan penemuan kasus terbanyak ada di tahun 2018 yaitu sebanyak 15 kasus.Penderita difteri paling banyak adalah anak usia 5-9 tahun yaitu sebanyak 21 anak. Beberapa penderita difteri memiliki riwayat imunisasi yang tidak lengkat maupun yang tidak pernah imunisasi sama sekali. Sedangkan penemuan kasus difteri terbanyak sering terjadi pada laki-laki.ABSTRACTBackground: Diphtheria is an infection caused by the Bacterium Corybacterium diphteriae, which attacks the mucous membranes of the nose and throat,then can affect the skin. This disease is very contagious and includes serious infections that are potentially life-threatening. Objectives: This study to analyze the distribution patterns of diphtheria cases in Bojonegoro Regency in 2009 - 2019 (August 2019). Methods This research was conducted on August 5-September 18, 2019 in Bojonegoro Regency. This research is a descriptive study using secondary data in the form of monthly reports of diphtheria cases reported by Puskesmas or Hospitals in the Work Area of the Bojonegoro District Health Office and the results of interviews with the Head of the Surveillance and Immunization Section, and the Person in Charge of the Diphtheria Surveillance Program at the Bojonegoro District Health Office. Result: The results showed that the highest age of diphtheria cases in Bojonegoro District occurred in the 5-9 years age group (29.16%). Based on sex, the majority occurred in male sex (61.84%). Based on immunization status, the incidence of diphtheria occurs in the age group <1 year. Based on location, diphtheria events in Bojonegoro Regency often occur in Bojonegoro District. By time, diphtheria events occurred in the January-March and August-December periods. Conclusions: Cases of diphtheria in Bojonegoro Regency from 2009 to August 2019 tended to be volatile. In 2009 until 2012 diphtheria cases in Bojonegoro Regency experienced a significant increase and decreased in 2013 and 2014. Then in 2015, diphtheria cases increased again and the most cases found were in 2018 which were 15 cases. The most diphtheria sufferers many are children aged 5-9 years, as many as 21 children. Some diphtheria sufferers have a history of immunizations that are not complete or have never been immunized at all. Whereas most cases of diphtheria are often found in men.
