Herein, a facile one-step electrodeposition route was presented for preparing Ni3S2/NiS composite film on Ni foam substrate (denoted as NiSx/NF). The NiSx granular film is composed of mangy interconnected ultra-thin NiSx nanoflakes with porous structures. When applied as electrodes for supercapacitors, the ultra-thin nanoflakes can provide more active sites for redox reaction, and the interconnected porous structure has an advantage for electrolyte ions to penetrate into the inner space of active materials quickly. As expected, the obtained NiSx/NF sample exhibited high gravimetric capacitance of 1649.8 F·g−1 and areal capacitance of 2.63 F·cm−2. Furthermore, a gravimetric capacitance of 1120.1 F·g−1 can be maintained at a high current density of 20 mA·cm−2, suggesting a good rate capability. The influence of the different molar ratios of electrodeposition electrolyte (NiNO3 and thiourea) on the morphology and electrochemical properties of NiSx/NF sample was investigated to provide an optimum route for one-step electrodeposition of Ni3S2/NiS composite film. The outstanding performance indicated the Ni3S2/NiS composite film on Ni foam has great potential as an electrode material for supercapacitors.

MoO3@CoMoO4 hybrid is fabricated by a facile one-step hydrothermal method and is used as anode for lithium-ion battery (LIB). Compared to pristine MoO3, galvanostatic charge–discharge tests show that the hybrid electrode delivered a remarkable rate capability of 586.69[Formula: see text]mAh[Formula: see text]g[Formula: see text] at the high current density of 1000[Formula: see text]mA[Formula: see text]g[Formula: see text] and a greatly enhanced cyclic capacity of 887.36[Formula: see text]mA[Formula: see text]h[Formula: see text]g[Formula: see text] after 140 cycles at the current density of 200[Formula: see text]mA[Formula: see text]g[Formula: see text] (with capacity retention, 85.3%). The superior electrochemical properties could be ascribed to the synergistic effect of MoO3 and CoO nanostructure that results in the lower charge transfer resistance and the higher Li[Formula: see text] diffusion coefficient, thus leading to high performance Li[Formula: see text] reversibility storage.

The hierarchical TiO2/C microspheres were obtained via a facile method of in-situ hydrolysis and spray drying. Antase TiO2 nanoparticles were coherent to microspheres TiO2/C due to the pyrolysis of carbon source (PVP). Besides, the favorable electron transfer from carbon to TiO2 improves the electronic conductivity of TiO2 via the presence of Ti–C bond within TiO2/C composite. Charge-discharge tests show that TiO2/C microspheres delivered a good rate capability of 106.1[Formula: see text]mAh[Formula: see text]g[Formula: see text] at the high current density of 5[Formula: see text]A[Formula: see text]g[Formula: see text] and an enhanced cyclic capacity. The superior electrochemical performance could be ascribed to the porous micro–nano structure, smaller crystal size and increased conductivity. The synthesis of TiO2/C microspheres is easy to scale up for satisfying high-performance sodium storage.

In this work, reduced graphene oxide (rGO) nanocomposites doped with nitrogen (N), sulfur (S) and transitional metal (Ni, Co, Fe) were synthesized by using a simple one-step in-situ hydrothermal approach. Electrochemical characterization showed that rGO-NS-Ni was the most prominent catalyst for glucose oxidation. The current density of the direct glucose alkaline fuel cell (DGAFC) with rGO-NS-Ni as the anode catalyst reached 148.0 mA/cm2, which was 40.82% higher than the blank group. The DGAFC exhibited a maximum power density of 48 W/m2, which was more than 2.08 folds than that of blank group. The catalyst was further characterized by SEM, XPS and Raman. It was speculated that the boosted performance was due to the synergistic effect of N, S-doped rGO and the metallic redox couples, (Ni2+/Ni3+, Co2+/Co3+ and Fe2+/Fe3+), which created more active sites and accelerated electron transfer. This research can provide insights for the development of environmental benign catalysts and promote the application of the DGAFCs.

The removal of organic pollutants using green environmental photocatalytic degradation techniques urgently need high-performance catalysts. In this work, a facile one-step hydrothermal technique has been successfully applied to synthesize a Nb2O5 photocatalyst with uniform micro-flower structure for the degradation of methyl orange (MO) under UV irradiation. These nanocatalysts are characterized by transmission and scanning electron microscopies (TEM and SEM), X-ray diffraction (XRD), Brunauer–Emmett–Teller (BET) method, and UV-Vis diffuse reflectance spectroscopy (DRS). It is found that the prepared Nb2O5 micro-flowers presents a good crystal phases and consist of 3D hierarchical nanosheets with 400–500 nm in diameter. The surface area is as large as 48.6 m2 g−1. Importantly, the Nb2O5 micro-flowers exhibit superior catalytic activity up to 99.9% for the photodegradation of MO within 20 mins, which is about 60-fold and 4-fold larger than that of without catalysts (W/O) and commercial TiO2 (P25) sample, respectively. This excellent performance may be attributed to 3D porous structure with abundant catalytic active sites.

AbstractMany hybrid electrodes for supercapacitors (SCs) are a reckless combination without proper structural design that keeps them from fulfilling their potential. Herein, we design a reduced graphene oxide/poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene)/polyaniline (RGO/PEDOT/PANI) hybrid with hierarchical and porous structure for high-performance SCs, where components fully harness their advantages, forming an interconnected and conductive framework with substantial reactive sites. Thus, this hybrid achieves a high capacitance of 535 F g−1 along with good rate capability and cyclability. The planar SC based on this hybrid deliver an energy density of 26.89 Wh kg−1 at a power density of 800 W kg−1. The linear SC developed via modifying a cotton yarn with the hybrid exhibits good flexibility and structural stability, which operates normally after arbitrary deformations. This work provides a beneficial reference for developing SCs.

Abstract A facile and environmentally friendly approach to produce self-doped hierachically porous carbon as electrode material for high-performance supercapacitor was demonstrated. 3D honeycomb-like hierarchically porous carbon was successfully obtained by one-step carbonization and activation of sodium carboxymethyl cellulose (CMC) via K2CO3. With the optimized temperature of carbonization and activation, the porous carbon material achieved well-shaped hierarchically pores (micro-, meso and macropores) like a honeycomb, ultrahigh specific surface area (1666 m2·g-1), as well as highly O-self-doping (3.6 at.%), endowing an excellent electrochemical properties for the electrode in three-electrode system. The porous carbon electrode material delivered a high specific capacitance of 300.8 F·g-1 at 1 A·g-1, an eminent rate capability of 228.4 F·g-1 at the current density up to 20 A·g-1 and outstanding cycle stability of 94.3% retention after 10000 cycles. Therefore, the CMC derived hierarchical porous carbon activated by K2CO3 would have promising foreground in application of supercapacitors.

Abstract Transition metal oxides are generally designed as hybrid nanostructures with high performance for supercapacitors by enjoying the advantages of various electroactive materials. In this paper, a convenient and efficient route had been proposed to prepare hierarchical coral-like MnCo2O4.5@Co-Ni LDH composites on Ni foam, in which MnCo2O4.5 nanowires were enlaced with ultrathin Co-Ni layered double hydroxides nanosheets to achieve high capacity electrodes for supercapacitors. Due to the synergistic effect of shell Co-Ni LDH and core MnCo2O4.5, the outstanding electrochemical performance in three-electrode configuration was triggered (high area capacitance of 5.08 F/cm2 at 3 mA/cm2 and excellent rate capability of maintaining 61.69 % at 20 mA/cm2), which is superior to those of MnCo2O4.5, Co-Ni LDH and other metal oxides based composites reported. Meanwhile, the as-prepared hierarchical MnCo2O4.5@Co-Ni LDH electrode delivered improved electrical conductivity than that of pristine MnCo2O4.5. Furthermore, the as-constructed asymmetric supercapacitor using MnCo2O4.5@Co-Ni LDH as positive and activated carbon as negative electrode presented a rather high energy density of 220 μWh/cm2 at 2400 μW/cm2 and extraordinary cycling durability with the 100.0 % capacitance retention over 8000 cycles at 20 mA/cm2, demonstrating the best electrochemical performance compared to other asymmetric supercapacitors using metal oxides based composites as positive electrode material. It can be expected that the obtained MnCo2O4.5@Co-Ni LDH could be used as the high performance and cost-effective electrode in supercapacitors.
