Conducting graphene oxide/polydiphenylamine (GO/PDPA) microsheet nanocomposite particles were fabricated via in-situ oxidative polymerization using diphenylamine in the presence of GO. The morphological structures and dimensions of the fabricated GO/PDPA composites were evaluated using transmission electron microscopy and scanning electron microscopy. Electrorheological (ER) responses and creep behaviors of an ER fluid consisting of the GO/PDPA composites when suspended in silicone oil were evaluated using a rotational rheometer under input electric field. Three different types of yield stresses were examined along with dielectric analysis, demonstrating their actively tunable ER behaviors.

The present investigation highlights the synthesis of polyaniline (PANI) coated graphene oxide doped with SrTiO3 nanocube nanocomposites through facile in-situ oxidative polymerization method for the efficient removal of carcinogenic dyes, namely, the cationic dye methylene blue (MB) and the anionic dye methyl orange (MO). The synthesised nanocomposites were characterised by field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM), thermogravimetric analysis (TGA), X-ray diffraction (XRD), and Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR). The adsorption efficiencies of graphene oxide (GO), PANI homopolymer and SrTiO3 nanocubes-doped nanocomposites were assessed by monitoring the adsorption of methylene blue and methyl orange dyes from aqueous solution. The adsorption efficiency of nanocomposites doped with SrTiO3 nanocubes were found to be of higher magnitude as compared with undoped nanocomposite. Moreover, the nanocomposite with 2 wt% SrTiO3 with respect to graphene oxide demonstrated excellent adsorption behaviour with 99% and 91% removal of MB and MO respectively, in a very short duration of time.

A graphene oxide/polyaniline composite was synthesized by an in situ polymerization process. This product was simply prepared in an ethylene glycol medium, using ammonium persulfate as oxidant in ice bath. The composite was characterized by field emission scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy, X-Ray photoelectron spectroscopy, Raman spectroscopy and electrochemical test. The composite material showed a good electrochemical performance.

HCl doped polyaniline (PANI) and Ru (III) doped polyaniline ( Ru /PANI) have been successfully prepared by in situ oxidative polymerization method and the effect of transition metal incorporation in PANI backbone is investigated thoroughly by the execution of Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FT-IR) and Raman study. Moreover, to examine the change in surface and bulk morphology of the composites, the field emission scanning electron microscopy (FESEM) and transmission electron microscopy (TEM) have also been carried out, which revealed the agglomerated state of PANI after being Ru doped. The confirmation of the presence of Ru in the composite is achieved by the energy dispersive X-ray spectroscopy (EDS). Also, the electrochemical characterizations namely, cyclic voltammetry (CV), ac impedance spectroscopy (EIS), cyclic charge–discharge (CCD), of the composite was performed by conventional three-electrode system using 1 M H2SO4 electrolyte. On doping with Ru , an increment of specific capacitance of PANI from 160 F/g to 425 F/g has been achieved with a considerable increase in cycle stability.

In this work, Pani and Pani@g-C3N4 was synthesized by in situ oxidative polymerization methodology of aniline, in the presence of g-C3N4. The as prepared Pani@g-C3N4 was characterized by scanning electron microscopy, transmission electron microscopy and X-ray diffraction (XRD). The morphological analysis showed well dispersed Pani in g-C3N4, as well as the coating of Pani on g-C3N4. The XRD further revealed this, and peaks of Pani as well as g-C3N4 was observed, thereby suggesting successful synthesis of the composite. The DC electrical conductivity studies under isothermal and cyclic aging conditions showed high stability of composites over 100 °C. Further, the synthesized composite material proved to be an excellent antimicrobial agent against both type i.e., gram positive Streptococcus pneumoniae and negative bacteria Escherichia coli. In the zone inhibition assay 18 ± 0.5, 16 ± 0.75 and 20 ± 0.5, 22 ± 0.5 mm zone diameter were found against E. coli and S. pneumoniae in presence of pure g-C3N4 and Pani@g-C3N4 at 50 µg concentrations, respectively. Further antimicrobial activity in the presence of sunlight in aqueous medium showed that Pani@g-C3N4 is more potent than pure g-C3N4.

AbstractA new conductive composite composed of nanoscale carbon black (CB) and poly(3,4-ethylenedioxythiophene) (PEDOT) was prepared by a simple in-situ polymerization. The morphology of the composite was characterized by scanning electron microscopy and transmission electron microscopy. The structure and thermal stability were examined by Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy and thermal gravimetric analysis, respectively. The results indicated that the addition of CB improved the agglomerated state of PEDOT. On the one hand, CB effectively hindered the agglomeration of PEDOT during the polymerization. Thus, the obtained CB-PEDOT composite dispersed well in solution, which can facilitate the reprocessing of CB-PEDOT. On the other hand, CB covered most of the surface of PEDOT, which enhanced the electrical conductivity of CB-PEDOT. Furthermore, the interfacial interaction between CB and PEDOT improved the thermal stability of CB-PEDOT. The findings of this research suggest that CB can replace polyelectrolyte poly(styrenesulfonic acid) (PSS) to achieve reprocessable materials for certain applications.

AbstractNanocomposites of waterborne polyurethane (WPU) containing graphene oxide sheets (GO) were prepared by an in-situ polymerization method at low temperature. The morphology and interface structure were characterized by atomic force microscopy (AFM), transmission electron microscopy (TEM) and scanning electron microscopy (SEM). Without undergoing complicated functionalization processes, GO can be finely embed into a WPU matrix and present high degree of orientation at high GO contents, due to the formation of chemical bonds and hydrogen bonding. From the Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectroscopy, X-ray diffraction (XRD) and dynamic mechanical analysis (DMA) results, incorporation of GO exists in two ways and shows inverse effects. At a content of 2.0 wt.% GO loading, the tensile elastic modulus of the GO-WPU film increased by 193% to neat WPU. The nanocomposites also displayed 30°C higher thermal stability than WPU in thermogravimetric (TG) curves. This environment-friendly method may pave the way to design graphene-based polymer composites.

Abstract In this study, polystyrene composites (PS–GOf) with variable concentration (0.5; 1; 2; 3; 4; and 5 wt%) of GOf were obtained through the in-situ polymerisation of the styrene in the presence of benzoyl peroxide and graphene oxide(GO) functionalized with 3-(methacryloyloxy)-propyltrimethoxysilane(γ-MPTS). For determining the morphological and structural particularities of polymeric composites transmission electron microscopy (TEM) measurements were performed. The influence of functionalized GO on thermal and combustion properties of polystyrene (PS)-based composite materials was determined through several methods: Thermogravimetry (TGA); derived thermogravimetry (DTG); microscale combustion calorimetry analysis (MCC); and chemical kinetic studies through TGA and MCC determinations at similar heating rates.
