Vertical profiles and stratospheric HNO3 and HCl columns are retrieved by ground-based high resolution Fourier transform infrared spectroscopy (FTIR) remote sensing measurements at the Hefei site in China. The time series of stratospheric HNO3 and HCl columns from January 2017 to December 2019 showed similar annual variation trends, with an annually decreasing rate of (−9.45 ± 1.20)% yr−1 and (−7.04 ± 0.81)% yr−1 for stratospheric HNO3 and HCl, respectively. The seasonal amplitudes of stratospheric HNO3 and HCl are 2.67 × 1015 molec cm−2 and 4.76 × 1014 molec cm−2 respectively, both reaching their maximum in March and their minimum in September, due to the tropopause height variation. Further, HNO3 and HCl data were used to compare with Microwave Limb Sounder (MLS) satellite data. MLS satellite data showed similar seasonal variations and annual rates with FTIR data, and the stratospheric HNO3 and HCl columns of the two datasets have correlation coefficients (r) of 0.87 and 0.88, respectively. The mean bias between satellite and FTIR data of stratospheric HNO3 and HCl columns are (−8.58 ± 12.22)% and (4.58 ± 13.09)%, respectively.

Very precise data on the solar radiation has been obtained by merging: (1) the absolute integrals of the disk-center intensity for 20Å-wide spectral bands, observed in the 1960's by Labs and Neckel (1962, 1963, 1967); (2) the ratios of the mean-to-central intensity following from observations of the center-to-limb variation of (a) all 20Å bands below 6600Å (Neckel and Labs 1984), and (b) the intensities at selected continuum wavelengths (Pierce and Slaughter 1977a, b); and (3) the high-resolution Fourier transform spectra (FTS) obtained by J. Brault at Kitt Peak for the center of the disk and for the irradiance.

Abstract. Aircraft measurements of carbon dioxide and methane over Tsukuba (36.05° N, 140.12° E) (February 2010) and Moshiri (44.36° N, 142.26° E) (August 2009) were made to calibrate ground-based high-resolution Fourier Transform Spectrometers (g-b FTSs) and to compare with the Greenhouse gases Observing SATellite (GOSAT). The aircraft measurements over Tsukuba in February 2010 were successful in synchronizing with both the g-b FTS and GOSAT for the first time. Airborne in situ and flask-sampling instruments were mounted on the aircraft, and measurements were carried out between altitudes of 0.5 and 7 km to obtain vertical profiles of carbon dioxide (CO2), methane (CH4), and other gaseous species. By comparing the g-b FTS measurements with the airborne measurements, the column-averaged dry air mole fractions of CO2 (XCO2) and CH4 (XCH4) retrieved from the g-b FTS measurements at Tsukuba were biased low by 0.33 ± 0.11% for XCO2 and 0.69 ± 0.29% for XCH4. The g-b FTS values at Moshiri were biased low by 1.24% for XCO2 and 2.11% for XCH4. The GOSAT data show biases that are 3.1% ± 1.7% lower for XCO2 and 2.5% ± 0.8% lower for XCH4 than the aircraft measurements obtained over Tsukuba.

Remote sensing of atmospheric hydrogen fluoride (HF) is challenging because it has weak absorption signatures in the atmosphere and is surrounded by strong absorption lines from interfering gases. In this study, we first present a multi-year time series of HF total columns over Hefei, China by using high-resolution ground-based Fourier transform infrared (FTIR) spectrometry. Both near-infrared (NIR) and mid-infrared (MIR) solar spectra suites, which are recorded following the requirements of Total Carbon Column Observing Network (TCCON) and Network for the Detection of Atmospheric Composition Change (NDACC), respectively, are used to retrieve total column of HF (THF) and column-averaged dry-air mole fractions of HF (XHF). The NIR and MIR observations are generally in good agreement with a correlation coefficient (R) of 0.87, but the NIR observations are found to be (6.90 ± 1.07 (1σ)) pptv, which is lower than the MIR observations. By correcting this bias, the combination of NIR and MIR observations discloses that the XHF over Hefei showed a maximum monthly mean value of (64.05 ± 3.93) pptv in March and a minimum monthly mean value of (45.15 ± 2.93) pptv in September. The observed XHF time series from 2015 to 2020 showed a negative trend of (−0.38 ± 0.22) % per year. The variability of XHF is inversely correlated with the tropopause height, indicating that the variability of tropopause height is a key factor that drives the seasonal cycle of HF in the stratosphere. This study can enhance the understanding of ground-based high-resolution remote sensing techniques for atmospheric HF and its evolution in the stratosphere and contribute to forming new reliable remote sensing data for research on climate change.

Fourier transform spectra of the ν2 band of PH3 have been remeasured with 0.0045 cm-1 resolution. Ground state combination differences from these data have been fitted simultaneously with the microwave and submillimeterwave data to determine the ground state spectroscopical parameters of PH3 including the parameters of the Δk = ± 3n interactions. The correlation between the latter parameters has been discussed from the point of view of the existence of two equivalent effective rotational operators which are related by a unitary transformation. The ΔJ = 0, +1, ΔK = 0 (A1 ↔ A2, E ↔ E) rotational transitions in the ν2 and ν4 states have been measured for the first time by using a microwave spectrometer and a radiofrequency spectrometer with acoustic detection.

Abstract Background Juvenile idiopathic arthritis (JIA) may seriously affects patients’ quality of life (QoL), but it was rarely focused and studied in China, so we explore JIA children’s QoL using Chinese version of the PedsQL4.0 Generic Core and PedsQL3.0 Rheumatology Module scale, and analyzed the psychometric properties of these two Scales among Chinese JIA children. Methods We recruited 180 JIA patients from Children's Hospital Affiliated to Capital Institute of Pediatrics and Hebei Yanda Hospital from July 2018 to August 2019. The questionnaires include information related on JIA, PedsQL4.0 generic core and PedsQL3.0 Rheumatology Module scales. According to the disease type, onset age of and course of JIA, we divided them into different groups, then compared the QoL status among different groups. Moreover, we analyzed the reliability and validity of these two scales in these 180 JIA children. Results The mean score of PedsQL4.0 generic core scale on these 180 patients was 82.85 ± 14.82, for these in active period was 72.05 ± 15.29, in remission period was 89.77 ± 9.23; the QoL score of systemic, polyarticular and oligoarticular JIA patients were 77.05 ± 19.11, 84.33 ± 12.46 and 87.12 ± 10.23. The mean score of PedsQL3.0 Rheumatology Module scale on 180 patients was 91.22 ± 9.45, for these in active period was 84.70 ± 11.37, in remission period was 95.43 ± 4.48; the QoL score of systemic, polyarticular and oligoarticular JIA patients were 89.41 ± 11.54, 89.38 ± 10.08 and 93.71 ± 6.92. In the PedsQL 4.0 Generic Core scale, the α coefficients of total scale and almost every dimension are all greater than 0.8 except for the school activity dimension of 0.589; the correlation coefficients of 22 items’ scores (total 23 items) with the scores of dimensions they belong to are greater than 0.5 (maximum value is 0.864), and the other one is 0.406. In PedsQL3.0 Rheumatology Module scale, except for the treatment and worry dimensions of 0.652 and 0.635, the α coefficients of other dimensions and the total scale are all greater than 0.7; the correlation coefficients of all items’ score were greater than 0.5 (the maximum is 0.933, the minimum is 0.515). Conclusions The QoL of Chinese JIA children is worse than their healthy peers, these in active period and diagnosed as systemic type were undergoing worst quality of life. The reliability and validity of PedsQL 4.0 Generic Core and PedsQL3.0 Rheumatology Module scale in Chinese JIA children are satisfactory, and can be used in clinical and scientific researches.

In this paper, we consider a new method for forest canopy height estimation using TanDEM-X single-pass radar interferometry. We exploit available information from sample-based, space-borne LiDAR systems, such as the Global Ecosystem Dynamics Investigation (GEDI) sensor, which offers high-resolution vertical profiling of forest canopies. To respond to this, we have developed a new extended Fourier-Legendre series approach for fusing high-resolution (but sparsely spatially sampled) GEDI LiDAR waveforms with TanDEM-X radar interferometric data to improve wide-area and wall-to-wall estimation of forest canopy height. Our key methodological development is a fusion of the standard uniform assumption for the vertical structure function (the SINC function) with LiDAR vertical profiles using a Fourier-Legendre approach, which produces a convergent series of approximations of the LiDAR profiles matched to the interferometric baseline. Our results showed that in our test site, the Petawawa Research Forest, the SINC function is more accurate in areas with shorter canopy heights (<~27 m). In taller forests, the SINC approach underestimates forest canopy height, whereas the Legendre approach avails upon simulated GEDI forest structural vertical profiles to overcome SINC underestimation issues. Overall, the SINC + Legendre approach improved canopy height estimates (RMSE = 1.29 m) compared to the SINC approach (RMSE = 4.1 m).

Background:HLA-B*27 has been identify as a susceptibility and prognostic factor associated to axial spondyloarthritis. HLA-B*27 allele has been described to be present in about 90% of patients with ankylosing spondylitis, and with a different frequency in patients with other subtypes of SpA. In contrast, this allele has been observed to be present only in 7–8% in general population. A remarkable heterogeneity in HLA-B*27 alleles has been reported. They have been determined at DNA sequence and some subtypes have been associated increasing the risk to develop the diseaseObjectives:To establish the frequencies of HLA-B27 subtypes in a group of Colombian patients with SpA and healthy populationMethods:In total, 61 Blood samples from Colombian mestizo individuals with SpA according to ASAS classification-criteria were evaluated by Sequencing Technology: Illumina Sequencing/PacBio Sequencing with analysis of the second and third exon. Results reported with six digits (including null alleles). In total, 294 results of peripheral blood from healthy individuals without joint symptoms were analyzed. Frequencies were obtained for demographic and genetic variables. Ethic Committee approval code 2018-020/2017-023Results:The SpA group had a mean age of 45,88 ± 11,67, 62.3% of them were male, 6.6% reported current smoking and 37.7% reported smoking sometime in life. In total, 67.2% had inflammatory back pain, 14.8% had dactylitis, 63.9% enthesitis and 57.4% arthritis. Thirty patients were HLA-B*27 positive with a genotypic frequency of 50.8% and an allelic frequency of 24.6%. In this group of patients, the mean age was 43,5 ± 11,8, 76.6% were male, 86.7% of them were subtype B*27:05:02g and 13.3% presented the B27:02:01g. None of the SpA patients had both B*27 alleles.On the other hand, the healthy individuals were men in 51.0% and the mean age was 37±15.4 years. Ten subjects were positive for the HLA-B*27 allele with a genotypic frequency of 3.4% and an allelic frequency of 1.7%. In this group of individuals 50.0% were male gender with a mean age of 38.4±17.9. No individuals were found to have the two alleles or homozygous for the B*27 allele.
