This study is motivated by the fact that there are currently no widely used applications available to quantitatively measure a power wheelchair user’s mobility, which is an important indicator of quality of life. To address this issue, we propose an approach that allows power wheelchair users to use their own mobile devices, e.g., a smartphone or smartwatch, to non-intrusively collect mobility data in their daily life. However, the convenience of data collection brings substantial challenges in data analysis because the data patterns associated with wheelchair maneuvers are not as strong as other activities, e.g., walking, running, etc. In addition, the built-in sensors in different mobile devices create significant heterogeneity in terms of sensitivity, noise patterns, sampling settings, etc. To address the aforementioned challenges, we developed a novel approach composed of algorithms that work collaboratively to reduce noise, identify patterns intrinsic to wheelchair maneuvers, and finalize mobility analysis by removing spikes and dips caused by abrupt maneuver changes. We conducted a series of experiments to evaluate the proposed approach. Experimental results showed that our approach could accurately determine wheelchair maneuvers regardless of the models and placements of the mobile devices.

Sound is a common means to give feedback on mobile devices. Much research has been conducted to examine the learnability and user performance with systems that provide audio feedback. In many cases a training period is necessary to understand the meaning of a specific feedback, because their functional connotation may be ambiguous. Additionally, no standardized evaluation method to measure the subjective quality of these messages has been established; especially regarding the affective quality of feedback sounds. The authors describe a series of experiments to investigate the affective impression of audio feedback on mobile devices as well as their functional meaning under varying contexts prototypical for mobile phone usage. Results indicate that context influences the emotional impression and that there is a relation between affective quality and functional appropriateness. These findings confirm that emotional stimuli are suitable as feedback messages in the context of mobile HCI and that context matters for the affective quality of sounds emitted by mobile phones.

Wireless technology has become one of the integral part of our daily life, it is the 21st century technology, emergency of wireless network have led the multimedia distribution very effectively. Moreover the video has been an eminent media for communications as well as for the entertainment purpose for past several decades. Due to improvisation in technologies people can communicate over face to face over the wireless network without any concern about the distance, hence the video transmission over the wireless network has become one of the interesting application in daily life. Moreover, it is very important to maintain good QoS (Quality of Service) such as effective bandwidth, routing protocols and other QoS parameters. In this paper, we have surveyed the extensive amount of research paper to understand the Quality of service, meanwhile we have extensively discussed the various existing methodology, which has helped in improvising the wireless network for video transmission. Moreover the main aim of this research work is to survey and address all the requirement along with challenges that occurs while designing the wireless network, also this survey unveils the recent development in optimization, algorithm, novel approach and the protocols for improvising the Quality of Service

A garment was designed for wheelchair users in this paper. On one hand, we optimized garment structure to make it easy to wear off, to facilitate long time sitting and toileting with application of ergonomics, on the other hand, according to wheelchair users’ needs, different fabrics were selected and matched to have a comprehensive performance with soft, warm, breathable, antibacterial and wear resistant function. Based on wheelchair users’ questionnaires, combined with technologies such as fabric performance testing, computer graphics software, apparel CAD system, optimized garment greatly improved quality of daily life for wheelchair users, to some extent, providing a reference for future development of care apparel for disabled and elderly people.

Quality of Experience (QoE) is a relatively new concept which represents a way of measuring user satisfaction in the use of a certain kind of service. This work investigates issues related to the QoE in manipulating 3D scenes on mobile devices, by focusing on scenarios based on the remote visualization paradigm where a remote server is in charge of computing a flow of compressed images to be delivered to client devices. A novel approach able to dynamically set the encoding parameters at the server side is presented; the considered parameters are frame resolution, frame rate and image quality. The proposed solution is able to tune the above parameters according to both user preferences and network performance. Experimental tests are exploited to assess the relationship between the involved parameters and the QoE. Results obtained by considering low resource hardware (e.g. mobile devices) and unreliable connections (e.g. wireless networks) are presented. User feedback proves the effectiveness of the proposed approach.

A recent series of experiments suggests that fostering superstitions can substantially improve performance on a variety of motor and cognitive tasks ( Damisch, Stoberock, & Mussweiler, 2010 ). We conducted two high-powered and precise replications of one of these experiments, examining if telling participants they had a lucky golf ball could improve their performance on a 10-shot golf task relative to controls. We found that the effect of superstition on performance is elusive: Participants told they had a lucky ball performed almost identically to controls. Our failure to replicate the target study was not due to lack of impact, lack of statistical power, differences in task difficulty, nor differences in participant belief in luck. A meta-analysis indicates significant heterogeneity in the effect of superstition on performance. This could be due to an unknown moderator, but no effect was observed among the studies with the strongest research designs (e.g., high power, a priori sampling plan).

Evaluation is at the basis of any social context where all individuals are simultaneously "evaluated" and "evaluators" in all areas of daily life. The goal of a good evaluation system is to encourage staff to do "Good Health" through the provision of quality prevention, diagnosis, treatment and rehabilitation services. The main reasons that lead to the evaluation of the personnel lie in the inevitable and primary importance of the human resource in achieving the corporate objectives, and by the pressing need for the quality of the service provided to the citizen, as well as the legitimate need of the employee to differentiate, clarifying its specificities and its own individual contribution to the general objectives of the company. In the working context, the "personnel evaluation" assumes a fundamental importance, if managed with the right criteria, in order to make the employee not a simple pawn to move and manage for use and consumption of the organization, but an integral part of the organization itself.

Hereditary angioedema (HAE) due to of C1inhibitor deficiency is a rare disease, which causes a strong physical and psychological impact on patients lives. HAE affects daily life, career opportunities, and social activity. In addition, fear of the edema development, as well as the associated with it pain and risk of death leads to depressive disorders specific for chronic (especially lifethreatening) diseases. The emergence of modern pathogenetic drugs can minimize the effect of HAE and improve the patients quality of life. There are three different therapeutic strategies that are used for HAE treatment: longterm prophylaxis, shortterm and ondemand therapy for acute attacks. This article focuses on longterm prophylaxis.

A study was carried out in six beet sugar factories in France during the 2012/13 sugar campaign. The objective was to assess the optimal dosage of formaldehyde solutions at specific process stages and in different existing factory set-ups in order to obtain the desired effect on microbial populations, without interference with the quality of the products. In addition harmlessness regarding consumer health was to be demonstrated. A series of experiments was conducted resulting in new data allowing refreshment of common knowledge and references existing regarding the use of formaldehyde solutions in the sugar industry. The effectiveness and convenience for controlling microbiological activity in beet sugar manufacture was assessed. Formaldehyde reduces sugar losses and protects in-process products without harming their further use, such as for ethanol production.

In recent years, breast cancer (BC) is the most common cancer pathology and the most common cause of disability among women in developed countries. Finding the most effective ways of interaction between the patient and the doctor creates the preconditions for the necessary analysis of the treatment process from an objective and subjective point of view. Therefore, an important indicator to be taken into account is the quality of life of a patient. To compare the indicators of a comprehensive assessment of the quality of life of patients to the adverse locally advanced forms (LA) of breast cancer before and after systemic intravenous polychemotherapy (SPCTx) and selective endolymphatic polychemotherapy (ELPCTx) in neoadjuvant mode. The study was conducted on the basis of a random analysis of outpatient cards from 112 patients with LA BC T4A-DN0-3M0 who received a comprehensive antitumor treatment on the basis of the Donetsk regional antitumor center and the University Clinic of the Odessa National Medical University from 2000 to 2017, which was proposed a questionnaire at various stages of preoperative treatment. The first (control) group consisted of 65 patients (58 %) with inoperable forms of LA BC, which was performed in neoadjuvant mode by SPCTx. The second (study group) included 47 patients (42 %) with inoperable forms of LA BC, which was performed as a neoadjuvant course ELPCTx. According to the integral indicators of quality of life and quality of health between patients in the control and study groups, there was no statistically significant difference. In a detailed analysis of the indicators of symptomatic scales, the difference between the groups did not exceed the critical. Based on the results of a study conducted among patients receiving endolymphatic chemotherapy in a neoadjuvant mode, the subjective evaluations of treatment in absolute numbers have better reference values without statistical superiority. The study of the integrative indicator of quality of life and its discrete elements is an ergonomic and economical means of heuristic assessment of the health of patients in order to further develop more rational and convenient ways of solving urgent issues of modern oncology by increasing compliance and finding a compromise between the physician and the patient.
