All countries worldwide faced the COVID-19 pandemic and had to take actions to lower the economic shock. Financial authorities play an especially significant role in economics and can help to manage the negative consequences. This article focuses on the European central bank monetary policy and actions taken for COVID-19 risk management. This research aims to identify the significant factors influencing the long-term loans for enterprises’ credit conditions in a forward-looking approach and determine the impact of the spread of COVID-19 pandemic on banking sector credit risk, financial distress, lending growth, and financial soundness indicators. This research is focused on the credit transmission channel and the role of the Pandemic Emergency Purchase Program in different countries of the euro area. To reach the main goal, panel data regression models are used. Our findings showed that the banks’ risk tolerance is a principal factor influencing long-term loan credit standards. We also identified that the spread of the COVID-19 pandemic has a statistically significant negative effect on banking sector credit risk, financial distress, banking sector profitability, and solvency. Furthermore, after analyzing the euro area banking sector, we found that liquidity increased. Hence, it means that banks have enough funds to support sustainable economic growth, but on the other side, commercial banks do not want to take credit risk because of their risk tolerance. Our research findings show the mixed effect of the COVID-19 pandemic on financial stability: while the overall financial distress decreased and banking sector liquidity increased, the profitability and solvency decreased some extent.

A dynamic and rapidly changing global financial environment is posing various risks for the banking sector. Therefore, the future of the Association of Southeast Asian Nations (ASEAN) banks depends on how efficiently and effectively they manage these risks. Among these risks, a credit risk is the most crucial risk for the banking sector. Thus, the current study aims to analyze the impact of financial innovation and sustainable economic growth on the credit risk of ASEAN banks. For this purpose, a sample of 4 ASEAN countries from 2011 to 2018 is selected, and by applying a panel-corrected standard error (PCSE) approach, both variables were found to be a significant contributor toward the credit risk. Current research will not only be beneficial for the management of ASEAN countries’ banks but also provide help to the overall financial industry and their respective regulatory bodies to understand the behavior of ASEAN banks’ credit risk regarding financial innovation and economic growth. Thus, this study will play an essential role concerning the stability of the banking sector in the ASEAN region.

Abstract Fiscal deficits represent an important variable for banks’ aggregate credit risk, revealing governments’ ability to curb banks’ losses in bad states, either with direct cash infusions or with macroeconomic stabilization policies. Deteriorating deficits are associated with increasing financial distress of the banking sector and higher levels of loan-loss provisions. The effect is more pronounced for banks with a strong aversion to underprovisioning and is robust to a battery of tests and to the identification of fiscal shocks using military-spending data. This association represents an additional source of negative comovement between provisions and economic conditions, with implications for financial stability.

The 2018 Nobel Economics Prize was awarded to two American economists - William D. Nordhaus and Paul M. Romer - who designed methods for better assessing environmental issues and technological advances on growth. This year’s Laureates, Nordhaus was the first person to create an intergrated model to assess interactions between society and nature and Romer laid the foundation for what is now called endogenous growth theory. According to the Swedish Royal Academy of Sciences, these two macroeconomists’ research have helped “significantly broaden the scope of economic analysis by constructing models that explain how the market economy interacts with nature and knowledge” which integrates climate change measures into long-term sustainable economic growth. Economic Growth is a central concept in Economic Theory. Most of the modern societies regard growth as an important determinant for rising standards of living. Their effects can be observed not only in more goods and services but also in brand new processes. Investment in human capital is re-garded as the very source of long-term, sustainable Economic Growth. The purpose of this paper is to provide a brief description of Economic Growth, how to approach its measurement, and to provide a brief review of the Schum-peterian thought and the main schools that have undertaken from the Classical and Neoclassical Approaches. Key Words: Economic Growth; Schumpeterian Thought; Classical and Neo-classical Approaches. JEL Classification: B12, B13, B52, O43, O49.

Keeping risk behavior and country governance in observation, this study has investigated the trends in financial stability for a sample of 22 commercial banks in Pakistan while controlling the effect of economic growth. Over the period of 2007 to 2016, the authors have applied OLS, FE, and RE regression methods to investigate which risk and governance factors are influencing the stability measures of the banks. It is found that financial stability in overall banks is affected by credit risk, operational risk, country risk, and financial crisis risk while control of corruption is also affecting ZROA in an adverse way.

This paper aims to provide a better basis for understanding the transmission connection between tourism development and sustainable economic growth in the empirical scenario of International countries. In this way, we have applied the dynamic stochastic general equilibrium (DSGE) model in different countries in order to check the power of generalization of this framework to study the tourism development. Also, we extend this model to obtain the long-term effects of tourism development with confidence intervals. The influence of tourism development on sustainable economic growth is proved by our results and show the indirect consequences between tourist activity and other industries produced through the external effects of investment and human capital and public sector. Our study confirms that the DSGE technique can be a generalized model for the analysis of tourism development and, especially, can improve previous precision results with the DSGE-VAR model, where vector autoregression (VAR) is introduced in the DSGE model. The simulation results reveal even more than when the productivity of the economy in general enhances, as the current tourist demand increases in greater proportion than more than the national tourism demand. For its part, the consumption of domestic tourism rises more than the consumption of inbound tourism if the productivity of the tourism production enhances, but non-tourism prices decrease at a slower rate and tourism investment needs a longer time to recover to what is established.

Significance This reflects the significant risks lying ahead for the government despite the European Council's decision on August 9 to waive fines for Portugal over its excessive budget deficit in 2015. Impacts The European Commission retains the possibility of suspending structural funds for Portugal. The decision to waive the fine could undermine the credibility of EU rules in the long term. Slower economic growth and the weak banking sector could lead to Portugal being downgraded by rating agencies.

Economic theory suggests that sound and efficient financial systems channel capitals to its most productive uses are beneficial for economic growth. Sound and efficient financial systems are especially important for sustaining growth in developing countries. This paper examines the impact of banking sector liberalization on long-term economic growth in Pakistan by using a time series data for the period 1971–2011. The results show that there exist a significant positive long run relationship between banking sector development and economic growth in the country. The sensitivity analysis also shows that the relationship remain positive and significant no matter what combination of the omitted variables are used in the basic model. Thus, our findings support the core idea that banking sector development stimulates long term economic growth in a country.
