The Crimean Peninsula as a region with a diversity of soil and climatic conditions is a home to more than 70 grape varieties. The assortment of grapes has been formed over a long period of time under certain conditions and has a number of valuable properties and traits. The article describes main ampelographic and economic-biological characteristics of the promising local Crimean table and wine grape variety ‘Solnechnaya Dolina 58’. The variety is suitable for cultivation in the south-eastern coastal zone of Crimea with bushes planting scheme of 1.5 x 3.0 m and a load of 60 eyes per bush when pruning 6-8 eyes. It grows well and fructifies on rank soils. It has good prospects for making red table and dessert wines, as well as for fresh consumption. The variety is met in collections only.

Riesling, Chardonnay, Shiraz and Cabernet Sauvignon grapes can make magnificent wines but there are also many other excellent wine varieties that for many of us are rarely experienced. Vines for Wines will expand the wine lover’s knowledge and appreciation of a great range of wines and help to explore their individual preferences for specific varieties, blends, flavours and styles. This book is based on the highly successful Wine Grape Varieties, which is an aid to identifying grape vines. Vines for Wines, however, focuses on wines from the average consumer’s point-of-view, introducing the different wine grape varieties and the wines made from them, including blends. Each variety is represented by a colour photograph of the grape variety, its current world plantings, wine produced and notes describing the varietal characters for each wine grape variety. The tasting terms and wine notes for each variety provide a benchmark for the consumer to assess the quality of wines they drink, and to allow them to share and compare their experiences confidently with other wine lovers.

The “black list” of the Crimean flora, on the territory of two administrative units - the Republic of the Crimea and the federal city of Sevastopol, is presented. The analysis of the alien species of the Crimean flora was carried out and the most dangerous for ecosystems invasive species of higher plants were identified in accordance with the recommendations for keeping the Black Books. The data on distribution, habitats and invasive status (IS) of 70 species are summarized. Transformers are represented by 9 species with IS 1 ( Ailanthus altissima, Bupleurum fruticosum, Elaeagnus angustifolius, Fraxinus ornus, Jacobaea maritima, Opuntia engelmannii subsp. lindheimeri, O. fragilis,O. humifusa, Rhamnus alaternus ), they change the appearance of ecosystems. Nineteen alien species actively disperse and naturalize in disturbed semi-natural and natural habitats (with IS 2) and 42 species (with IS 3) are widely distributed in disturbed habitats. The peculiarity and variety of soil and climatic conditions of the peninsula contribute to the introduction of alien species, many of which are invasive only on the territory of the Republic of the Crimea and the city of Sevastopol. This article is a necessary step towards the preparation of the Black Book of the flora of the Crimean Peninsula and the basis for making decision on prevention the economic and environmental damage of the natural biodiversity of the region.

Geographical and climatic conditions of the Crimean peninsula, mammals of a particular ecosystem together with pathogens of the infection and a complex of their ectoparasites, contribute to the preservation of natural foci of tularemia and other natural focal infectious diseases on its territory. Epizootic activity of natural foci of tularemia has a welldefined periodicity and seasonality. Currently, natural foci of tularemia of the steppe type in the flat Crimea and forest type on the territory of the mountain-forest Crimea function. Three types of enzootic tularemia were identified. The epidemiological analysis of people with tularemia in the Crimea showed that its dynamics, level and distribution of cases in the administrative regions are determined primarily by the activity and duration of epizootics in natural foci located in the territories where tularemia is diagnosed. Prevention of diseases of people with tularemia in the Crimea, requires constant monitoring of the activity of natural foci of these infections, the timely detection of rodent epizootics, the study of their ectoparasites and their results, and the implementation of preventive measures.

Each grape-growing region has its own unique assortment of grapes which has been formed over a large period of time under definite conditions, and, as a result, possesses a number of valuable characteristics. The Crimean Peninsula, with its diversity of soils and climates, is the birthplace of more than 70 varieties of grapevine. The paper reports responses of local Crimea grape varieties growing in the collection of the Institute Magarach to difficult arid conditions of the summer of 2019. The data obtained will be used for studies on grape genome in search of genes responsible for drought resistance. It will also contribute to an efficient use of grapevine genetic resources maintained in the Institute’s collection for breeding new genotypes best adapted to biotic stressors.
