Introduction. The processes of globalization and social transformation have made environmen-tal conservation a priority, and therefore require some action to be taken to address environ-mental issues and the rational use of natural resources. The solution of the existing problems depends to a great extent on the functioning efficiency of the financial security system established in the country, the established composition and the volume of financing sources and certain directions of their use, which necessitates their scientific-based analysis. The purpose of the study is to investigate the state of financing environmental measures in Ukraine, to study the directions, dynamics and structure of costs for environmental protection, identifying features of financing environmental protection. Results. The comprehensive analysis of the dynamics of costs for environmental protection and rational use of natural resources is carried out. The main components of environmental expenditures are identified. Costs for environmental protection and rational use of natural resources by financing sources have been structured. The dynamics and structure of capital investments by nature conservation measures are investigated. The dynamics of the share of expenditures for environmental protection and rational use of natural resources in the GDP of Ukraine, as well as the share of capital investments (environmental) in the structure of capital investments of Ukraine are analyzed. The features of the current state of financing environmental protection and rational use of natural resources are highlighted. Conclusions. The results of the research made it possible to identify the main problems in the field of financial support for environmental protection and to outline the ways of their solution. The necessity of investments mobilization into nature protection activity is proved through development of appropriate means of economic stimulation and their legislative fixing, which will allow to solve the problem of financial support of environmental protection by diversification of financing sources. Keywords: costs for environmental protection, environmental activities, environmental measures, recurrent costs, capital investments, cost structure, financial support.

The chapter considers whether company law and corporate governance-related initiatives provide effective mechanisms for holding corporations to account for their contribution to climate change. A key regulatory device targeted at corporations is disclosure, the goal of which, in this context, is to achieve greater transparency regarding the risks and opportunities connected to climate change. The chapter explores to what extent climate change-related reporting contributes to the efforts towards reducing global warming. It is argued that there are a number of significant problems with climate-related reporting in its current state, in so far as there are many different requirements, including standards, codes, guidelines, at industry or sector level as well as at national and international levels; all these combined create a chaotic reporting landscape. Moreover, there is no meaningful link between the disclosures required under company law and initiatives within the area of environmental protection; hence it becomes difficult to identify clearly what the key reporting information is and what the responses and possible legal consequences of any such disclosures should be. Consequently, corporations’ accountability for their contribution to climate change is open to question.

The article summarizes the arguments and counterarguments within the scientific discussion on the current state of environmental pollution. The main purpose of the study is to update and promote the processing industry of plastic waste. Systematization of literary sources and approaches to solving the problem of environmental protection has shown that today the problem of plastic recycling is one of the most important facing humanity. The article presents the results of empirical analysis of the main indicators of production, use and processing of plastic, which showed the need to stimulate and develop enterprises in the processing industry.

Increasing requirements concerning the environmental protection and waste management result in the development both new and effective recycling methods of various fractions of waste. From the technical and natural sciences point of view, the utilization of hazardous waste is essential. The inappropriate utilization of hazardous waste causes the environmental degradation. Particularly harmful waste is asbestos using not so long ago in many sectors of economy, including automotive industry. Despite of the ban of production and exploitation of asbestos, waste containing asbestos minerals are still in the environment. The necessity of the utilization of asbestos waste leads to the development of high-efficiency recycling methods with the application of different technologies. This paper shows the current state of knowledge concerning the asbestos waste with particular reference to the automotive industry. The recycling methods of asbestos used both in laboratory and industrial scale are also presented.

The need to find alternative sources of energy and environmental protection has resulted in the significant development of organic photovoltaics. The synthesis of organic compounds that will ensure the efficiency of the cells has become a key issue. In this work, we present an overview of materials based on donor-linker-acceptor structural motifs, and summarize the current state of research which can help in the design of new, effective photovoltaic materials.

The article is focused on determining the instruments of administrative and legal provision for the realization of the right to a safe and healthy environment by individuals and formulating the propositions to improve the normative and legal regulation of the procedures of their application. The author of the article has established the state of scientific developments concerning the realization of the citizens’ right to a safe and healthy environment and the instruments of its administrative and legal provision. The concept of administrative and legal provision and its instruments have been revealed. The functions of public administration subjects assigned to them in the field of environmental protection have been highlighted; the shortcomings of their normative and legal regulation have been determined; and the ways of their solution have been suggested. The author has named the types of instruments of administrative and legal provision for the realization of the right to a safe and healthy environment by individuals and their certain characteristics. The system of normative and legal acts regulating the procedures for their use has been studied. The current state of normative and legal regulation of the application of the instrument of administrative and legal provision for the realization of the right to a safe and healthy environment by individuals has been clarified; and propositions and recommendations regarding the ways of its improvement have been formulated. In particular, a number of specific problems that are to be obligatory solved has been defined: lack of procedures of public administration activities and a normative act that would introduce unified rules for the application of the instruments of public administration activities; contradictions and inaccuracies that exist in the current normative and legal acts; validity of normative acts adopted with violation of powers.

AbstractThis article focuses on the current state of the law of international watercourses. Progress and management paradigm shifts of the regime of uses and environmental protection of the international watercourses (1815–2008) are examined through the main sources of international law. Current state of the law is demonstrated by analysing the transition of the various concepts and approaches (i.e. international river to international basin), substantive principles (i.e. absolute sovereignty to equitable utilisation), implementation mechanisms (i.e. piecemeal to integrated management) and dispute settlement venues (i.e. adjudication to impartial fact-finding). The present state of the law recognises developmental needs and environmental considerations as equal, establishing parity between the regimes of uses and environmental protection. The findings can be helpful to determine how the law of international watercourses, particularly relevant treaties, has to be aligned with sustainable developments, elaborating the prospects for an integrated legal perspective, combating the adverse impacts of the global hydro-climate change.
