scholarly journals Minimizing Warpage on Injection molding through Response Surface Methodology (RSM)

Cosmetic defects can occur in injection molding. The aim of this study is avoidance of warpage on an injection moulding parts. The selected parts is an aesthetics part in automotive industry This study is conducted on moulded parts on the plating jigs, where warpage cannot be compensated through the fixing of parts on jigs entering plating baths where the temperature of the etching baths is around 65deg.Analysis of variance is used to determine how inputs affect outputs. The inputs used are mould surface temperature, raw material melting temperature, filling pressure and filling time. These parameters are varied to get an optimal process parameters setting to avoid the warpage of the parts by using response surface methodology.It is very difficult to understand why the warpage on the parts happens.There is lots of factors which can contribute for warpage and to identify them is a huge task and this can be due to numerous things and to sequester the role of each parameters is an uphill task. One of the parameters is the holding pressure which decides how much the part is packed which, in turn, is the cause for the stress in the part. This induced stress when gets relieved over a period of time creates warpage in the part. Warpage can also be dependent on the sequence of filling the part with various gates. For example, if the part is filled from the centre & the end gates are opened last, it may cause over packing of the part at the end & cause more warpage only at the ends locally. However, usually parts are filled in this fashion only to avoid warpage in the centre.

The efficiency of the ‘Injection molding Machine’ lies in the proper designing of screw feeder mechanism. The screw feeding mechanism needs to be setup differently for different materials, molds etc. The proper design includes the work from selecting the appropriate materials, designing for the optimum design, analysis of the designed parts at different flow rates, speed and temperatures. There are various parameters that govern the efficiency of the ’Injection molding Machine’. These parameters include ‘Filling Pressure’, ‘Mold Surface Temperature’, ‘Raw Material Melting Temperature’, ‘Filling Time’ etc.

This article addresses the evolution of Industry 4.0 (I4.0) in the automotive industry, exploring its contribution to a shift in the maintenance paradigm. To this end, we firstly present the concepts of predictive maintenance (PdM), condition-based maintenance (CBM), and their applications to increase awareness of why and how these concepts are revolutionizing the automotive industry. Then, we introduce the business process management (BPM) and business process model and notation (BPMN) methodologies, as well as their relationship with maintenance. Finally, we present the case study of the Renault Cacia, which is developing and implementing the concepts mentioned above.

Phosphate ore slurry is a suspension of insoluble particles of phosphate rock, the primary raw material for fertilizer and phosphoric acid, in a continuous phase of water. This suspension has a non-Newtonian flow behavior and exhibits yield stress as the shear rate tends toward zero. The suspended particles in the present study were assumed to be noncolloidal. Various grades and phosphate ore concentrations were chosen for this rheological investigation. We created some experimental protocols to determine the main characteristics of these complex fluids and established relevant rheological models with a view to simulate the numerical flow in a cylindrical pipeline. Rheograms of these slurries were obtained using a rotational rheometer and were accurately modeled with commonly used yield-pseudoplastic models. The results show that the concentration of solids in a solid–liquid mixture could be increased while maintaining a desired apparent viscosity. Finally, the design equations for the laminar pipe flow of yield pseudoplastics were investigated to highlight the role of rheological studies in this context.

The fascinating world of lichens draws the attention of the researchers because of the numerous properties of lichens used traditionally and, in modern times, as a raw material for medicines and in the perfumery industry, for food and spices, for fodder, as dyes, and for other various purposes all over the world. However, lichens being widespread symbiotic entities between fungi and photosynthetic partners may acquire toxic features due to either the fungi, algae, or cyano-procaryotes producing toxins. By this way, several common lichens acquire toxic features. In this survey, recent data about the ecology, phytogenetics, and biology of some lichens with respect to the associated toxin-producing cyanoprokaryotes in different habitats around the world are discussed. Special attention is paid to the common toxins, called microcystin and nodularin, produced mainly by the Nostoc species. The effective application of a series of modern research methods to approach the issue of lichen toxicity as contributed by the cyanophotobiont partner is emphasized.

Fusicoccin (FC) is a well-known phytotoxin able to induce in Acer pseudoplatanus L. (sycamore) cultured cells, a set of responses similar to those induced by stress conditions. In this work, the possible involvement of peroxynitrite (ONOO−) in FC-induced stress responses was studied measuring both in the presence and in the absence of 2,6,8-trihydroxypurine (urate), a specific ONOO− scavenger: (1) cell death; (2) specific DNA fragmentation; (3) lipid peroxidation; (4) production of RNS and ROS; (5) activity of caspase-3-like proteases; and (6) release of cytochrome c from mitochondria, variations in the levels of molecular chaperones Hsp90 in the mitochondria and Hsp70 BiP in the endoplasmic reticulum (ER), and of regulatory 14-3-3 proteins in the cytosol. The obtained results indicate a role for ONOO− in the FC-induced responses. In particular, ONOO− seems involved in a PCD form showing apoptotic features such as specific DNA fragmentation, caspase-3-like protease activity, and cytochrome c release from mitochondria.

AbstractThis paper reviews 50 years of obsidian studies at Neolithic Çatalhöyük in the Konya plain, central Anatolia. A number of key issues are addressed: (1) the source of the site's raw materials, the means and forms by which the obsidian was introduced to the site and the role of Çatalhöyük in the supra-regional dissemination of these raw materials; (2) the alleged gender associations of certain obsidian goods in the burial record and beyond; (3) a more general consideration of the social significance of the circulation and consumption of obsidian at the site, including the phenomena of hoarding and gifting, plus the important role of projectiles in the creation of social identities and various forms of ritual behaviour, not least the termination of the life of a building/individual; (4) the technotypological and raw material variability through time; (5) the use of obsidian in daily practice and craft-working.
