Unprecedented advancement in wireless technology, storage, and computing power of portable devices with the gigabyte speed of internet connectivity enables the possibility of communication among machine to machine. IoT has a different way to connect many nodes simultaneously to store, access, and share the information to improve the quality of life by the elimination of the involvement of human. Irrespective of unlimited benefit, IoT has so many issues that arise to eclipse IoT in reality because of its centralized model. Scalability, reliability, privacy, and security challenges are rising because of the huge numbers of IoT nodes, centralized architecture, and complex networks. Centralized architecture may lead to problems like a single point of failure, single way traffic, huge infrastructure cost, privacy, security, and single source of trust. Therefore, to overcome the issues of the centralized infrastructure of the IoT, the authors diverted to decentralized infrastructure. It may be the best decision in terms of performance, reliability, security, privacy, and trust. Blockchain is an influential latest decentralization technology to decentralize computation, process management, and trust. A combination of blockchain with IoT may have the potential to solve scalability, reliability, privacy, and security issues of IoT. This chapter has an overview of some important consensus algorithms, IoT challenges, integration of the blockchain with IoT, its challenges, and future research issues of a combination of blockchain and IoT are also discussed.

Internet of Things (IoT) is growing rapidly in recent days and increasing of IoT devices day by day producing vast amount of data, to store this data security is a major challenge in IoT. To avoid these security challenges, blockchain is the perfect solution. With its security by design, immutable nature, transparent nature and encryption methodology blockchain will solve architectural issues of IoT. In these days, the energy meters in our homes are not able send the information to the cloud and man power also needed to update readings every month, and manually errors also taken place some times to avoid these, in the paper a smart energy meter is proposed, that will measure the power consumption and that readings will be stored in to the blockchain to secure the data from the fraudsters and also to make the payment without any third parties like banks, in the blockchain technology amount can be transferred from one to one without any third parties using crypto currencies like bitcoin, ether.., etc. The user will be able to check the bills in the blockchain and do the payments. By using the blockchain technology the user data will be more secure and the IoT security issues also solvable.

This study investigates the relationships between the contextual factor of national culture and information security concerns in the global financial services industry (GFSI). Essentially, this study attempts to expand the breath of information provided in the recent 2009 Deloitte Touche Tohmatsu (DTT) survey, which reported such issues in the financial services industry. The inference from the 2009 DTT survey was that information security concerns across GFSI are being informed solely by industry-related standards or imperatives. As such, perceptions and attitudes towards such issues were thought to remain unchanged in differing contexts. Results from this study’s analysis showed that the perceptions of information security concerns in GFSI compared reasonably well, but also varied by some national cultural attributes to debunk such a claim. Corporate managers in the industry may benefit from this research’s findings as they formulate country-wide information security policies and strategies. As well, insights from this current effort indicate that it would be erroneous for practitioners to accept that entities in the financial services hold exactly the same view on information security issues in their industry. Future research avenues are discussed.

Background Data security issues still constitute the main reason for the sluggish dissemination of electronic health records (EHRs). Given that blockchain technology offers the possibility to verify transactions through a decentralized network, it may serve as a solution to secure health-related data. Therefore, we have identified stakeholder-specific requirements and propose a blockchain-based architecture for EHRs, while referring to the already existing scientific discussions on the potential of blockchain for use in EHRs. Objective This study aimed to introduce blockchain technology for EHRs, based on identifying stakeholders and systematically eliciting their requirements, and to discuss the key benefits (KBs) and key challenges (KCs) of blockchain technology in the context of EHRs. Methods The blockchain-based architecture was developed in the framework of the design science research paradigm. The requirements were identified using a structured literature review and interviews with nine health care experts. Subsequently, the proposed architecture was evaluated using 4 workshops with 15 participants. Results We identified three major EHR stakeholder groups and 34 respective requirements. On this basis, we developed a five-layer architecture. The subsequent evaluation of the artifact was followed by the discussion of 12 KBs and 12 KCs of a blockchain-based architecture for EHRs. To address the KCs, we derived five recommendations for action for science and practice. Conclusions Our findings indicate that blockchain technology offers considerable potential to advance EHRs. Improvements to currently available EHR solutions are expected, for instance, in the areas of data security, traceability, and automation by smart contracts. Future research could examine the patient’s acceptance of blockchain-based EHRs and cost-benefit analyses.
