Today, human capital plays a significant role in developing the innovation process of organizations and for that reason it is an important element of any successful organization. The aim of this study is to examine the impact of three factors associated with human capital namely knowledge, skill, and attitudes towards organizational innovation. To achieve this aim, this study adopted a quantitative survey by collecting data from employees of public sector in Abu Dhabi. Descriptive and inferential statistics was used to analyse the quantitative data. The result of this study shows that human capital has a direct and positive influence towards organizational innovation through high degree of knowledge and skills as well as positive attitude. This study tested three factors mentioned above twords organziational innovation in UAE. Therefore, the author recommends the leaders in public organizations in UAE to focus on the factors associated with human capital in particular knowledge, skill, and attitude of employees. The outcome of this study revealed that the skills and knowledge of human capital are one of the pillars of this vision is transforming the UAE into competitive knowledge economy through innovation and creativity. Moreover, it is highly recommended to test the moderation effect of transformational leadership on this relationship in future studies to understand how the behavior of leaders support or weakening the impact of human capital on organizational innovation.

This study examines the impact of gender at three different positions in a firm’s hierarchy on innovative activities, looking at over 6474 firms in 30 emerging countries. We create a dummy variable for each of the six survey questions on product innovation, process innovation, organizational innovation, marketing innovation, and R&D (Research & Development) spending. Each dummy acts as a dependent variable in a separate logit regression, and the sum of the dummies acts as the dependent variable in another ordered logit regression. We use the female ownership percentage, female top management, and female majority in the workforce as test variables. We use the Heckman two-stage model to address endogeneity concerns with gender. We find that the female ownership percentage is generally positively related to individual innovation measures as well as the composite measure, while female top management is positively associated with marketing innovation only, and a female majority in the workforce is not significantly related to any measure. The results suggest that promoting innovation in emerging countries would involve governments encouraging further market participation by women and supporting female CEOs (Chief Executive Officers) to innovate, and firms fostering innovation among female workers.

Purpose – The purpose of this paper is to examine what types of shipping knowledge are crucial in order for shipping companies to survive in dynamic business environment, and to investigate how the shipping knowledge affects the company’s performance (i.e. organizational innovation and logistics value). This paper also diagnoses the moderating effect of absorptive capacity on the relationship between the shipping knowledge and its effectiveness. Design/methodology/approach – Based on the literature, a theoretical framework and relevant hypotheses are established so as to show associated relationships between shipping knowledge, absorptive capacity, and organizational innovation and logistics value. Data are collected for an empirical analysis and a moderated hierarchical regression analysis is conducted to test the hypotheses. Findings – Results show that a high level of shipping knowledge has a positive influence on the organizational innovation and logistics value of shipping companies. The findings also indicate that, while the absorptive capacity of shipping companies moderates the positive impact of shipping knowledge on the logistics value, it directly affects the improvement of organizational innovation. Research limitations/implications – This research verifies that effective knowledge management of shipping companies plays a significant role in developing organizational innovation and improving logistics performance. The research findings provide shipping companies with a strategic insight into the identification of critical sources for competitive advantage and greater organizational performance from an organizational learning perspective. Practical implications – This line of research is served as an indicator of a good strategic direction for the practitioners engaged in the maritime transport and logistics industry, in order for them to become better integrated entities in a global logistics system as well as maximize their competitive advantages. Originality/value – This paper makes the first attempt in its kind at empirically examining the types of shipping knowledge and its overall effectiveness in terms of the improvement of organizational innovation and logistics value. The moderating role of absorptive capacity on the impact of knowledge on organizational performance has also been initiated in the maritime logistics research.

The purpose of this research is to analyze the determinants of product innovation and its impact on the financial performance of the organizations. Specifically, the study examines the impact of intelligence generation, intelligence dissemination, product-process innovation, marketing support of the product, quality, Dependability/ Delivery, Technology selection, Flexibility on the financial performance of the automobile companies. The models of product innovation provided the theoretical framework for the research. The model of product-process innovation provides the basis for further research. The first concept explains the link between organizations surroundings and its innovation targets (Utterback JM 1974, 1975) (Miller & Friesen, 1982)(Milling, 1996) whereas the second concept explains the connection between firm’s performance level i.e. innovative performance, financial performance, organizational performance and marketing performance and its innovation types i.e. product innovation, process innovation, organizational innovation and marketing innovation (Abernathy & Townseed, 1975) (Abernathy & Utterback, June/July 1978) (Gunday, et al., 2011). From these concepts evolved this study i.e. to evaluate the impact of product innovation on the financial performance of the organizations.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to investigate the relational dynamics for innovation and, in particular, the impact of the openness of innovation process on the innovation capacity of organisations in restricted geographical contexts. Design/methodology/approach Through a negative binomial regression, the work analyses how the characteristics of the openness of the organisation’s innovation process in the period 2004-2010 influence the firm’s patent productivity in the following period (2011-2016). Findings The breadth of the open innovation (OI) process, here measured by the number of external network ties that an organisation realises for the realisation of its patents, has a positive effect on patent productivity. The depth of the openness, that is, the intensity of external network ties, has an equally positive influence on the innovative performance. However, after a tipping point, the patent productivity tends to decrease, underlining the costs and problems of OI practices. Research limitations/implications This study considers only patent collaborations in the city of Florence. Therefore, it focusses on codified innovations and on a single territorial case study. Practical implications The results underline the importance of the adoption of OI practices in restricted geographical contexts (such as cities, clusters or industrial districts) but with several limitations. Only collaborating more with others does not foster the organisation’s invention productivity, but different types of evidence are found here. Originality/value An original database has been created, containing all the information on patents realised in the area of Florence from 2004 until 2016, and a social networks analysis was applied to identify the local innovation networks.

Growing interest has been shown in the degree to which investment in human capital contributes to firm performance, yet limited research attention has been paid to the contextual conditions that moderate this relation. This investment may be more beneficial in some contexts than in others. Specifically, this study examines how temporary work and organizational size affect the value of human capital. We carry out a comparative analysis of the impact of human capital on firm performance among small and large companies with high and low use of temporary employment. From a sample of 1,403 industrial Spanish companies, findings indicate that the impact of human capital on labor productivity and return on sales is moderated by temporary work and organizational size. The most beneficial context is represented by a large company with a high degree of human capital and a lower use of temporary employment.

Background: In addition to lowering lipids, statins also may be beneficial for older adults sustaining a traumatic brain injury (TBI), as statin use prior to and following trauma may decrease mortality following injury. However, despite statins’ potential to reduce mortality, there is limited research regarding statin use among older adults. Objective: To characterize and investigate factors associated with statin use among older adults with TBI. Methods: A retrospective drug utilization study was used to characterize statin use among Medicare beneficiaries 65 and older hospitalized with a TBI during 2006 to 2010 and with continuous Medicare Parts A, B, and D coverage 6 months prior and 12 months following TBI. Logistic regression was used to investigate the factors associated with statin use. The exposure of interest was statin use prior to and following TBI. Results: Of the 75 698 beneficiaries included in the study, 37 874 (~50%) of beneficiaries used a statin at least once during the study period. The most common statin used was simvastatin, while fluvastatin was the least used statin. Statin users were more likely to have cardiovascular diseases when compared to nonusers. Hyperlipidemia was a major factor associated with statin use and had the greatest impact on statin use compared to nonuse (odds ratio = 9.54; 95% confidence interval = 9.07, 10.03). Conclusions: This national sample of older adults with TBI suggests that statins are commonly used. Future studies must next examine the impact of statin use on mortality and secondary injury in order to shape pharmacological therapy guidelines following TBI.

Dengue disease is found in tropical and subtropical climates and within the last decade it has extended to temperate regions. Santa Fe, a temperate province in Argentina, has experienced an increase in dengue cases and virus circulation in the last decade, with the recent 2020 outbreak being the largest since dengue transmission was first reported in the province in 2009. The aim of this work is to perform a description of spatio-temporal fluctuations of dengue (DENV) cases from 2009 to the present in Santa Fe province. The data presented in this work provide a detailed description of dengue virus transmission for Santa Fe province by department. This information is useful to assist in better understanding the impact of ongoing dengue emergence in temperate regions across the world. Indeed, this work provides data useful for future studies including those investigating socio-ecological, climate, and environmental factors associated with dengue transmission, as well as those investigating other variables related to the biology and the ecology of vector-borne diseases.
