Pepper is one of the leading commodity in Indonesia especially in North Kalimantan Province. Pepper becomes world trade commodity so that motivates farmers to do pepper farming. Motivation is influenced by several social and economic factors namely education, profession, work opportunity,  market, selling price, and income. This study aimed to determine the socio-economic factors motivating farmers to do pepper farming in Bambangan Village, West Sebatik Subdistrict, Nunukan District. The study was conducted from June until August 2018 in Bambangan Village, West Sebatik Subdistrict, Nunukan District. The research method was done by simple random sampling with 33 respondents. Data analysis used Likert scale with three indicators of socio-economic that motivate farmers in the application of pepper farming. The result showed that social factors determine with a score of 1,022 or equal to 30.96 motivate farmers in the application of pepper farming and economic factors determine with a score 717 or equal to 21.72. Socio factors is dominant of work opportunity with a score of 96.96%. Socio-economic factors determine the motivation of farmers in the application of pepper farming in Bambangan Village.

Abstract BACKGROUND: Choices of childbirth places among women may influence the rate of maternal risks and some social and economic factors which encourage maternal mortality are still a major challenge especially in developing countries like Nigeria, one of the commonest of these childbirth place choices is home birth. The aim of this study was to find out the prevalent socio-economic factors that influence the choice of childbirth places among the women of child bearing age in Oyigbo Local Government area of Rivers State in Nigeria.METHODOLOGY: A self-structured questionnaire was used as instrument to collect data for the study through simple random sampling, and these data was analyzed using Frequency and percentage for descriptive statistics while chi-square was used for inferential statistics at 0.05 level of significance. RESULT: The result showed that mean age of the women is 35.27 and most of them had secondary education, also there was a high level of hospital/health facility adherence among the women in Oyigbo Local Government Area of Rivers State and there were no significant association between social factors and choices of childbirth places among the women, and also there was significant associations between income and choices of childbirth places among the women but there were no significant association between the educational qualifications and choices of childbirth places among the women.CONCLUSION: There is a slight influence of social factors on the choices women make on childbirth places, since maternal health and antenatal knowledge is now easily accessible to everyone even without formal education, however, the cost implication of delivery in health facility and economic empowerment of women should be considered, therefore this study has shown that the choice of childbirth place is majorly influenced by their level of income.

This study aims to analyze factors that affect the productivity of oil palm plantations in Jambi Province. This research was conducted in sentra palm oil production in Merangin Regency with the research locus of South Veil Subdistrict selected purposive. The data used consists of Primary Data that includes social factors, economic factors, behavior of the use of production inputs and productivity of oil palm plantations.. The sample size is 80 farmers. Sample withdrawal by Simple Random Sampling method Restoration of structural models factors that affect the productivity of oil palm plantations is used sem Partial Least Squaremodel. The results showed that social factors, economic factors and institutional access factors were in the moderate category. The productivity of oil palm plantations is relatively low. Manifest social factors, which have a very real effect is the age of farmers. Manifest market access and product prices have a very real effect on economic factors. Manifest access to fertilizer procurement and fertilizer prices has a very real effect on the behavior of the use of production inputs and moderation variables that have a significant effect on the productivity of oil palm plantations. Policies that need to be done to improve. Is the strengthening of economic factors in the field of product prices and market access, and upay6a strengthening the behavior of farmers in the use of production inputs, especially fertilizers by providing subsidy incentives.

Tempeh industry is a typical household business that requires little investment and has few workers. Efficient marketing could optimize the income of tempeh’s producers. This research aims to understand the marketing efficiency and factors that affect the purchasing margin of tempeh in selected areas. This research will study the value of farmer’s share and the marketing margin of tempeh to evaluate the commerce efficiency. The sampels are the producers and sellers. 58 tempeh’s producers are selected by the simple random sampling method. The sellers, on the other hand, are chosen using the snowball sampling, a technique that tracks down the marketing process. The variable studied in the  research are as follows: 1) producer’s tempeh’s selling cost, 2) tempeh’s selling price on commercial institution, 3) marketing cost, 4) total amount of sold products, 5) numbers of  marketing  institution  where the  product  passes,  6)  the  marketing margin, 7) the farmer’s share, and 8) marketing efficiency. The research finds three marketing channels on the case study areas. The first channel is from the producers to tempeh. The second channel is form producers to retailers to consumers. The third channel is from producers to peddlers to consumers. By using the farmer’s share, the calculation of commerce efficiency. The leading cause is the lack of middlemen. Moreover, the double regression analysis show the retailers tempeh selling cost (X4) to be the dominant factor in the marketing margin of tempeh.

There is considerable interest worldwide in broadband diffusion, with research focusing on aspects such as the provision of broadband in remote areas and the socio-economic factors that determine the likelihood of adoption. This chapter identifies the policies and initiatives used to encourage broadband awareness, availability, and adoption. Using the case study of a local broadband initiative in remote and rural Germany, the chapter asks the question of who can and should be responsible for broadband provision, and how such responsibility ascriptions are realized.

The socio-economic factors such as the economic background of members, their affiliations to social sub-groups, cultural back ground, business ethics, inter alia influence the supply of entrepreneurship in a particular region. Moreover, absence of social marginality in an underdeveloped region acts as a hindrance to entrepreneurial behavior. Odisha is such a backward region in India which has exhibited some sign of entrepreneurial orientation among social groups as revealed from MSME and Economic Census data. The present study aims at examining the nature of entrepreneurship of this region.

ABSTRACTAlthough the American Civil War is perhaps the most written about event in American history, the issue of desertion has often retained a neglected position in the conflict's dense historiography. Those historians who have studied military absenteeism during the war have tended to emphasize socio-economic factors as motivating men to leave the army and return home. The Register of Confederate Deserters, a list of southern soldiers who crossed into Union lines and took an oath of loyalty in order to try and return home, can provide a different look at these men. By studying the South Carolinian men on the Register, as a case-study, we can see that ideological, as well as socio-economic, motivations occupied the thought process of Civil War deserters. Moreover, the act of desertion was rarely a simple representation of the thoughts of the individual but of the opinions and feelings of his family and community as well. As such, studying Confederate desertion not only helps us understand the issues of loyalty and nationalism during the Civil War, but also the way in which nineteenth-century southerners conceptualized the world around them.
