AbstractWhile existing literature on collective trauma in international relations represents a vital (albeit inchoate) contribution to the field, to date, it has largely analyzed collective trauma’s impact as primarily psychological and sociocultural. This essay argues that a complete vision of collective trauma in IR must incorporate not only these more intangible dimensions but also how its legacy is reified materially over time in economic conditions—distinguishing the trauma of those with the resources to “work through” and those without. I begin this essay with a novel conception of collective trauma that draws upon existing traditions’ insights but also facilitates mediation between collective trauma’s material and sociocultural dimensions. Employing this definition, I then outline three analytical frameworks via which future scholarship can address collective trauma in international economic relations. First, scholarship can incorporate a notion of the trauma of poverty. Second, scholars can analyze the loss of economic opportunity that trauma entails as akin to Dominick LaCapra’s concept of structural trauma of absence. Finally, scholarship can examine collective trauma’s ability to break down trust in institutions and the impact this breakdown has on international economic relations.

The chapter claims that it is uncertain whether Hollywood will address the Trump era’s ideological unorthodoxies. The Shape of Water’s magical realist narrative avoids critique of the Realpolitik central to Trump’s statecraft. It instead adopts a stance of anti-McCarthy liberalism by embracing the Russian other, averting the liberal antipathy towards modern Russia lampooned by the pro-Trump “Alt Right.” Red Sparrow also declines to interrogate the recent changes wrought to East-West relations. The film avoids invoking the current state of U.S.-Russia relations and even refuses to reference Vladimir Putin. Evaluating these two disparately received films, the chapter argues that the ideal cinematic representation of Cold War II has yet to arrive, and is precluded from doing so because of bewildering new ideological reconfigurations. Concluding with a reflection on the impact of Black Panther (2018), the chapter posits that allegory might be the most probable method of addressing new International Relations dynamics.

The gist of this article boils down to the impact of unfair tax competition on the current state and further development of a sustainable economy and international economic relations. With the development of the world economy and international economic relations, the world community is faced with such an economic category as unfair tax competition or tax dumping. International tax competition or tax dumping is one of the most negative phenomena associated with the tax policy of states. To stimulate the inflow of investment in a particular country or region, governments of different jurisdictions resort to a special type of tax policy characterized by strong tax cuts. It is obvious that unfair tax competition consists of not only tax dumping, but also other advantages provided by the state. The most obvious of these benefits is high confidentiality for investors. The activities of offshore jurisdictions can not only cause significant damage to the economies of countries that are not able to apply tax dumping, but also provoke serious economic crises. Tax evasion is primarily due to the fact that economic agents prefer to register in offshore countries and pay taxes there. In this regard, offshore countries are quite rightly called the “dependents” of the world economy, since they are the ones who unreasonably use the public goods created by the onshore states. The article examines the impact of unfair tax competition on the current state and further development of the world economy and international economic relations. The policy of offshore countries is analyzed, the reasons, problems and prospects for the development of the international struggle against unfair tax competition are studied. Final positioning is formulated in the paper.

This article examines the evolution or Burma/Myanmar's foreign policy in terms of its ideologic orientations and evolution. The collapse of the Burma Socialist Programme Parry (BSPP) government in 1988 that had previously pursued a policy of neutrality obtained through self-imposed isolationism has been replaced by a much more realist foreign policy that views international relations and power in competitive terms. Myanmar also maintains a Set of competitive relations with its near neighbours to stabilize the immediate external environment and stave off the impact of international sanctions . These bilateral relations are also calibrated to provide a balance-of-power between the three Sets of relations in order to avoid being overwhelmed by any of them. All three near neighbours have many important and sensitive issues that are brought to bear on the relationships as well.
