We prove that a sequence satisfying a certain symmetry property is $2$-regular in the sense of Allouche and Shallit, i.e., the $\mathbb{Z}$-module generated by its $2$-kernel is finitely generated. We apply this theorem to develop a general approach for studying the $\ell$-abelian complexity of $2$-automatic sequences. In particular, we prove that the period-doubling word and the Thue-Morse word have $2$-abelian complexity sequences that are $2$-regular. Along the way, we also prove that the $2$-block codings of these two words have $1$-abelian complexity sequences that are $2$-regular.

In a companion paper, J. K. Salisbury has presented the theoretical aspects of a new approach to analyzing the steam turbine cycle. This paper presents the results of efforts at applying this new approach to the monitoring of the economics of turbine cycle operation. Means are presented for identifying cycle faults and determining the change in heat rate resulting from these faults. Very little in the way of precision measurement and calculation is required. These techniques are, therefore, amenable to use by plant personnel with the tools already at hand. By the same token they also provide advantages when employing data-processing equipment.

Based on a new approach to symmetries of the fundamental interactions we deal, in this paper, with the electroweak interactions of leptons. We show that the coupling constants, arising in the way leptons are coupled to intermediate bosons, can be understood as parameters associated to the breakdown of SU(2) and parity symmetries. The breakdown of both symmetries is characterized by a new parameter (the asymetry parameter) of the electroweak interactions. This parameter gives a measure of the strength of breakdown of symmetries. We analyse the behaviour of the theory for three values of this parameter. The most relevant value is the one for which only the electromagnetic interactions do not break parity (the maximally allowed left-right asymetric theory). Maximamally allowed parity asymmetry is a requirement that is met for a value of Weinberg's theta-angle that is quite close to the experimental value of this parameter.

We introduce here a new approach to the study of $m$-quasi-invariants. This approach consists in representing $m$-quasi-invariants as $N^{tuples}$ of invariants. Then conditions are sought which characterize such $N^{tuples}$. We study here the case of $S_3$ $m$-quasi-invariants. This leads to an interesting free module of triplets of polynomials in the elementary symmetric functions $e_1,e_2,e_3$ which explains certain observed properties of $S_3$ $m$-quasi-invariants. We also use basic results on finitely generated graded algebras to derive some general facts about regular sequences of $S_n$ $m$-quasi-invariants

A new approach to derive symmetrized expressions of leading classical moments of spectral distributions characterizing different anisotropic terms of the interaction potential for the case of two liear molecules is presented. The results allow to calculate diffuse shapes formed by transitions between continuous eigenstates of a molecular pair and open the way to account for the nonMarkov effects (due to finite collision durations) in the rotatonal relaxation matrix of an arbitrary rank. The approach is also applied to the spectral moments of vector and tensor characteristics determining the band intensities in the collision-induced spectra of linear molecules. Generally, the use of symmetrized expressions lead to considerably faster computer codes.

It is shown that with the change in pressure and temperature of natural gases in storages gas-holders, different installations one can separate water in necessary concentration from hydrates of hydrocarbon gases in their composition that forms its increased admixture in pipes and in the long run it influences the final heat-producing of the fuel. New approach was proposed as to the determing of heat-producing of natural gas supplied to consumers by the way of substantiation of the necessity to introduce such a unit as cubic metrobar (m3 bar). This would be conductive to determination of the correlation between heat-producing of produced natural gas and gas supplied to consumers, that is to say, determination of quality of consumed gas.

So contended Edmund Burke in the House of Commons, during a May 1770 speech that ridiculed the government's American policy. It was not the first time Burke raised the subject of this 1543 statute. He had asked—rhetorically—during debates two weeks before, “The Act of Henry VIII. Did you mean to execute that?” He then answered his own question, the scorn beneath it probably apparent to all. “You showed your ill will to America, at the same time you dared not execute it.” Burke hoped that by shaming the ministry he might be able to push through a set of resolutions condemning its policies, which could open the way for a new approach to imperial management. He failed, but that did not mean he had been wrong about the futility of threatening to resurrect an old statute to intimidate protesting Americans.

In this essay, a new approach to doing research in schools and other community settings is described: service-bonded inquiry. This approach allows researchers to expand the boundaries of scholarly inquiry through the integration of service and scholarship. It is not an attempt to replace traditional forms of research; rather, it serves to complement the way researchers have historically conducted research. Service-bonded inquiry is the proverbial bridge between what Hal Lawson (1990) calls information gathering and useful information. The discussion here focuses on describing important assumptions underlying service-bonded inquiry and arguing that personal values and commitment must be assessed before engaging in this type of research. In addition, guideposts for evaluating and doing service-bonded inquiry are provided.

This chapter will propose an ontology of virtual environments that calls into question the dichotomy between the real and the virtual. This will draw on the concepts of trajectivity and ‘médiance' in order to describe the way virtual environments, with their technological and symbolic features, take part in the construction of human environments. This theoretical proposition will be illustrated with the analysis of Arcadia, a virtual environment built in Second Life. Finally, a mesocriticism will be proposed as a new approach for the study of virtual environments.

Loyola Marymount University (LMU) has developed a new approach to problem solving, Collaborative Solution Discovery (CSD), to help practitioners in a school system leverage their individual passions in a way that grows students’ positive math identity through mathematical thinking, problem solving, and self-regulation. By focusing on how students and teachers interact with each other in real-time in an ideal classroom, practitioners take ownership of a process to guide their students in growing their positive math identity and thus taking ownership of their own math learning. Practitioners measure progress along the way through metrics that are created, defined, used, and continually refined by themselves to attain their ideal math learning environment. The entire CSD process results in a system that owns ist improvement efforts—improvement efforts that are flexible, adaptable, and sustainable.
