Aim of this study is to determine levels of general health, occupational stress and burnout in nurses who are working in Shohadaye Kargar Hospital of Yazd. A cross- sectional study was conducted among nurses who are working in Shohadaye Kargar Hospital of Yazd in 2017-2018 years. The sample was randomly selected and total 200 nurses were enrolled to the study. The study instruments included Occupational stress questionnaire, Maslach Burnout Inventory and General Health Questionnaire. Collected Data were analyzed by using descriptive test and Pearson correlation coefficient and multivariate regression in SPSS. The findings of research indicated that total levels of occupational stress were high among 58.85 % of nurses. Regarding burnout, 35.93% of nurses had reported high levels of burnout. Less than one percent (0.37 %) of nurses have high mental health problems and 0.44 percent reported mid mental health problem. There was a statistically significant correlation between occupational stress with mental health (p<.001) and job burnout with mental health (p<.001). Occupational stress and job burnout may have undesired influences on nursing mental health and general function.

Introducción: El personal de enfermería es uno de los grupos más afectados por la actual pandemia por COVID-19. Se han reportado problemas de salud mental en esta población, sin embargo, también es importante estudiar la resiliencia, para identificar sus fortalezas. El objetivo de este estudio fue estudiar la resiliencia en enfermeros mexicanos y los factores sociodemográficos y de salud mental asociados a ella. Se llevó a cabo un estudio transversal.Método: Se envió vía online un cuestionario sociodemográfico y relacionado a COVID-19, así como el Inventario de Resiliencia y el Cuestionario General de Salud-28. Se incluyeron 556 enfermeros, la mayoría fueron mujeres (80%), solteras (60.8%) y con edades entre 26-35 años (38.3%).Resultados: Se encontraron niveles bajos de resiliencia en los enfermeros más jóvenes (p<0.001, ɳ2=0.05), solteros (p<0.001, ɳ2=0.02) y con menor nivel educativo (p=0.001, ɳ2=0.02). Los predictores de resiliencia fueron la búsqueda de información sobre salud mental (β =-0.152, p <0.001), nivel educativo más alto (β = 0.142, p<0.001), niveles bajos de depresión (β=-0.307, p<0.001) y bajos niveles de disfunción social (β =-0.261, p<0.001).Conclusión: Estos hallazgos permiten identificar los factores asociados a la resiliencia en los enfermeros y cómo estos juegan un rol muy importante en su salud mental. Asimismo, estos datos permiten la identificación de grupos con mayor riesgo psicosocial, con la finalidad de guiar estrategias en salud mental orientadas a aumentar la resiliencia. Introduction: Nursing personnel are one of the groups which have been most affected by the current COVID-19 pandemic. Although mental health problems have been reported in this population, it is important to study resilience, in order to identify its strengths. The purpose was to study resilience in Mexican nurses and the mental health and sociodemographic factors associated with it. A cross-sectional study was used. Method: A sociodemographic and COVID-19 related questionnaire, the Resilience Inventory and the General Health Questionnaire-28, was sent via online. 556 nurses were included, the majority were women (80%), single (60.8%), aged between 26-35 years (38.3%). Conclusion: This findings allowed to identify the factors which are associated with resilience among nurses and how this plays an important role in their mental. Likewise, this data allows for the identification of high psychosocial risk groups, to better guide mental health strategies aimed at increasing resilience. Problemas de saúde mental têm sido relatados nessa população, porém também é importante estudar a resiliência, para identificar seus pontos fortes. O objetivo deste estudo foi estudar a resiliência em enfermeiras mexicanas e os fatores sociodemográficos e de saúde mental a ela associados. Foi realizado um estudo transversal.Método:Um questionário sociodemográfico relacionado ao COVID-19 foi enviado online, assim como o Resilience Inventory e o General Health Questionnaire-28. Da mesma forma, esses dados permitem identificar grupos de maior risco psicossocial, a fim de nortear estratégias de saúde mental que visem aumentar a resiliência.

Background: While it is acknowledged that self-efficacy plays a significant role in understanding consequences of occupational stress, no research has given much attention to the mediating effect of self-efficacy in the association between occupational stress and mental health (MH)problems. The aims of this study were to examine: (1) the associations between occupational stress, MH problems, and self-efficacy among nursing professionals, and (2) mediating effect of self-efficacy in the association between occupational stress and MH problems. Methods: A multi-hospital cross-sectional survey was adopted in eight hospitals in Tabriz, Iran. 389 nursing staff were recruited through a two-stage sampling procedure. Study variables included occupational stress (Health & Safety Executive [HSE] Management Standards RevisedIndicator Tool [MS–RIT]), mental health (General Health Questionnaire [GHQ–28]), and self efficacy (General Self-Efficacy [GSE–10]). Generalized structural equation modelling (GSEM)was applied. Results: Occupational stress (mean±SD=109.2±13.4), poor MH (41.9%), and low selfefficacy (mean±SD=17.7±4.9) were fairly common among the participants. The results showed significant direct effect of occupational stress on MH problems (β=- 0.38, P<0.001). Indirect effect of occupational stress on MH problems through self-efficacy was not significant. Conclusion: The findings highlight the role of other mechanisms or factors than self-efficacy in the association between occupational stress and MH problems that should be established in future work.

Background and Purpose: COVID-19 could be a threat to healthcare workers' mental health. This study was conducted to investigate job burnout and its relationship with the resilience level of the personnel in the COVID-19 treatment hospital in southern Iran. Methods: This descriptive-analytical cross-sectional study was conducted in 2021 on 496 personnel of Hazrat Ali Asghar (AS) Hospital selected as the center of COVID-19 in southern Iran. The participants of the study were selected using the census. Data collection tools were the standard Maslach Burnout Inventory (MBI) and Connor-Davidson Resilience Scale (CD-RISC). Data analysis was performed using t-test, ANOVA, Pearson correlation coefficient, and multiple linear regression in SPSS23 at a significance level of 0.05. Results: The mean scores of job burnout and resilience were 76.95 ± 14.36 (of 132) and 71.21 ± 8.24 (of 125), respectively which indicated the moderate level of these two variables. There was a significant inverse correlation between job burnout and resilience (P<0.001, r= - 0.514). Spiritual influences (P<0.001), perception of competence (P=0.001), positive acceptance of change and secure relationships (P= 0.001), trust in individual instincts (P= 0.02), and control (P= 0.03) of resilience aspects were identified as predictors of job burnout. Additionally, there was a statistically significant relationship between job burnout and gender (P=0.001) and occupational group (P= 0.04); and between resilience and gender (P= 0.02) and with marital status (P= 0.03). Conclusion: Job burnout status and personnel resilience were at a moderate level. It was recommended to train employees with resilience-enhancing skills employees according to each of their dimensions.

BackgroundMany people with mental health problems do not seek professional help but their use of other sources of help is unclear.AimsTo investigate patterns of lay and professional help-seeking in men and women aged 16–64 years in relation to severity of symptoms and sociodemographic variables.MethodPostal questionnaire survey, including the 12-item General Health Questionnaire (GHQ–12), sent to a stratified random sample (n=15222) of the population of Somerset.ResultsThe response rate was 76%. Only 28% of people with extremely high GHQ–12 scores (⩾8) had sought help from their general practitioner but most (78%) had sought some form of help. Males, young people and people living in affluent areas were the least likely to seek help.ConclusionsHealth promotion interventions to encourage appropriate help-seeking behaviour in young people, particularly in men, may lead to improvements in the mental health of this group of the population.

The COVID-19 pandemic is a major problem affecting the mental health of millions of people, including healthcare workers. In this study, we analyzed risk factors and coping mechanisms that could reduce the risk of poor mental health among healthcare workers during the COVID-19 pandemic in Japan. A cross-sectional survey was conducted for 7 days from 30 April 2020 using a web-based questionnaire. The survey assessed various outcome measures, including the General Health Questionnaire-12 (GHQ-12), health status, satisfaction with daily life activities, work, leisure, and new activities, and anxiety over COVID-19. Data from 661 participants were analyzed, and 440 participants (66.6%) showed poor mental health (GHQ-12 ≥ 4). Also, our result showed that female gender, lower levels of communication with friends, and high anxiety were associated with poorer mental health. In contrast, good health status, high work satisfaction, and high satisfaction from new activities were associated with buffering mental health problem. Most participants chose an escape-avoidance coping strategy, and participants with worse mental health were more likely to adopt seeking social support as a coping strategy. These results may support healthcare workers to cope with mental health problems associated with the COVID-19 pandemic.

Excessive social media usage can be harmful to the mental health of individuals. The core objective of the study was to inspect the effects of social media usage on mental health. Secondly, to find out the mean differences of gender, social media and mental health. A cross-sectional research design was utilized to fulfil the study objectives. n=1067 students from six different universities in Punjab, Pakistan, were selected through a multi-stage sampling technique. Data was collected through an adapted questionnaire comprised of three distinct parts, i.e. socio-demographic profile, social media integration scale by Maree (2017) and Goldberg depression scale (1993), to check the social media effects on mental health among youth. Attained replies were analyzed by using SPSS analysis software version 21. Furthermore, to check the direction and consistency of the relationship among these variables, Pearson correlation was applied, which demonstrated a negative relationship between social media usage and mental health problems at p<.000. This study concluded a negative influence of excessive social media usage on mental health among youth in public universities of Punjab, Pakistan.

Introduction: Burnout is a complex psychoemotional construct defined by three dimensions: emotional exhaustion, depersonalization, and feeling of diminished personal achievement. It occurs in professionals who work in direct contact with other people. Healthcare professions are classified as the most endangered, with employees in psychiatric institutions being at the top of the pyramid of risk for the development of professional burnout. The aim of this study was to assess the prevalence of job burnout among psychiatric nurses, as well as to examine the correlation of sociodemographic factors with burnout syndrome. Methodology: A non-experimental cross-sectional correlation study was conducted on a sample of 70 nurses employed at the Institute of Mental Health in Belgrade. The study instruments were the Maslach Burnout Inventory - Human Services Survey (MBI-HSS), and the sociodemographic data questionnaire specially designed for this research. Results and discussion: The results show that 34.3% of in the ob-served sample show moderate or severe symptoms of burnout in the domain of emotional exhaustion, in 14.3% of them was registered moderate or severe burnout manifestations in the domain of depersonalization, and 68.6% show of study participants showed moderate or high level of burnout in the personal achievement domain. Correlation analysis of respondents' sociodemographic characteristics with burnout manifestations confirms that depersonalization is statistically significantly associated with mar-ital status (p=0.036). In addition, there is a correlation between emotional exhaustion and education level (ch2-9,431; p=0.051), age of respondents (ch2 =17,802; p=0.023) and length of service (ch2=17,213; p=0.028). Conclusion: Considering the individual and social consequences of job burnout, it is important to identify risk groups among nurses employed in psychiatry institutions, in order to preserve and improve mental health, as well as improve the quality of provided health services.

Introduction: Persistently dealing with chronic mental illness makes the caregiverssuffer from burden and mental health problems which are intensified if the caregiver is female.Therefore, there is need to improve the mental health of caregivers by using relaxation trainingin such a way that would reduce the burden of care in caregivers. Objectives: It is assumedthat female caregivers would be differing significantly in mental health problems as comparedto man. Relaxation training would improve mental health as compared to controlling the actualcondition. High burden would have inverse relationship with GHQ’s differential scores. Therewould be significant interaction between gender and burden, gender and training, burden andtraining, gender, burden and training. Study Design: A 2(Gender) X 2(Burden) X 2(Training)mixed factorial between subject design was used. Setting & Period: This study was conductedwithin 6 months of duration at the department of Psychiatry, Sir Ganga Ram Hospital Lahore.Material & methods: Purposive Sample technique was used. Sample consisted of 40 womenand 40 men out door patient’s caregivers of schizophrenia and epilepsy at Sir Ganga RamHospital, Lahore. Their age ranged from 20 to 60 years (M = 35.05, SD = 0.89). We assessedcaregiver’s burden by using Urdu version of Burden of Assessment (BAS) along with BAS, wealso recorded demographic information about the caregivers and assessed patients whomthey served on ICD-10 and clinical diagnoses for schizophrenia and epilepsy. Inherent to thestudy was a General Health Questionnaire (GHQ) which measured health of all caregivers fromdifferent dimensions. It included somatic, anxiety & insomnia, social dysfunction, depressionand psychological health of all caregivers. Compliant with a number of researchers, we designa training program to alleviate caregivers burden of health coping strategies, safeguard fromunfounded options about the patients and the disease and maximize the efficiency in dealingwith the patient and his/her disease. Results: Results found significant main effects on genderas women suffered from high burden and mental health problems as compared to men. Asame significant main effect was also found for burden which increased health-related issues.Another significant main effect was found on training. The experimental group whom researcherprovided relaxation training was significantly low on GHQ differential score as compared tocontrolled condition. Since we divided caregivers into high and low burden groups we foundthat general health of high burden group are more porn to degradation than low burden group.However, low health indicated on GHQ subscales is improved after training for both highand low burden group. Conclusions: We concluded that caregivers need to get substantialunderstanding of the patients disease and they need to get first-hand knowledge and trainingof what they are getting into when they are looking after diseased patients.

Introduction: Occupational stress is one of the most important phenomena in the workplace. Mental health, as an important factor in all personal, social, and occupational life aspects, is one of the areas of interest in mental health. The purpose of this study was to determine the relationship between job stress and mental health among workers of central iron ore in Bafgh City, Iran. Methods: This was a descriptive correlational study. The statistical population included 2400 people (1600 workers and 800 employees) working in central Bafgh iron ore in 2014. The sample size was estimated as 331 using the Morgan and Krejcie table. Approximately, 216 persons were employed in the labor sector and 115 in the employment sector. Data collection tools included the Goldberg general health questionnaire (GHQ) and Depression Anxiety Stress Scales (DASS). The DASS was designed in three parts. The first part included demographic data (7 items). The second section had 28 questions and dealt with the participants' general health status. The third part included 42 questions and was about occupational stress. Later, Spss21 was used and Pearson correlation coefficient and regression tests were run to analyze the data and test the hypotheses. Results: The results showed that mental health was higher in employees, while job stress was higher among the workers. This indicated a significant association between job stress and mental health in both employees and workers. However, regarding the demographic variables, only gender was related to mental health and rest of the demographic variables had no significant relationship with mental health and job stress (5≥participants). Conclusion: Occupational stress was related to mental health in employees and workers; this can affect the level of production and product quality. Furthermore, occupational tress and mental health not only affect the workers and employees, but also expose the society and other people at risk.  Consequently, it is necessary to plan and render different services at the occupation environment to decrease job stress and improve the current situation.
