Safe Hand hygiene practice is considered the most essential component of patient safety. Especially when it comes to health professionals; students are exposed to their clinical practice in the first years of their education. This accelerates the chances of getting infection via cross-transmission of hands through the healthcare worker to the patient is the most common quantitative cross-sectional, questionnaire-based survey was carried out to investigate the level of knowledge, practices, and attitude of Hand hygiene among university nursing and optometry undergraduate students in their final year of training. A total of one hundred and forty-three subjects took part in the survey of which 73 nursing students and 70 optometry students. Fisher’s exact test was applied to test the level of Knowledge on practice and attitude. And the correlation coefficient r=-1 to +1   with P>0.05 was obtained. To add, using an observational checklist will be the ideal way to assess the hand hygiene practice in the clinical area. Moreover, add a mandatory component as patient safety into the curricula of the undergraduate students of allied health will enhance patient safety more effectively.

Palavras-chave: Segurança do Paciente. Enfermagem. Conhecimento. Higiene das Mãos. METHOD: Cross-sectional, quantitative study. Performed with health professionals who work in basic care. Data collection with the Knowledge Testing Tool on Hand Hygiene for Health Professionals. RESULTS: The professional categories know the main way of cross-transmission of microorganisms. On the hand hygiene technique, most identify that alcoholic preparation should cover all surfaces of hands, they should be dry before use and should not be used paper towels after. Among the knowledge of the professional categories there was no statistical difference. CONCLUSION: Results demonstrate knowledge, but gaps are identified. Necessary educational actions on the subject and new studies must be carried out with different methodologies. Keywords: Patient Safety. Nursing. Knowledge. Hand Hygiene. Primary Health Care.

Background. Hand hygiene is recognized as the leading measure to prevent cross-transmission of microorganisms. Regarding hospital acquired infections, the compliance of nurses with hand washing guidelines seems to be vital in preventing the disease transmission among patients. There is a paucity of studies exploring this subject in Asia. Especially medical and nursing student’s knowledge of standard hand hygiene precautions is rarely compared. Methods. A cross-sectional study was conducted among 98 medical and 46 nursing students in a tertiary medical college in India. Knowledge was assessed using WHO hand hygiene questionnaire. Attitude and practices were evaluated by using another self-structured questionnaire. Z test was used to compare the percentage of correct responses between medical and nursing students. A P value less than 0.05 was considered significant. Results. Only 9% of participants (13 out of 144) had good knowledge regarding hand hygiene. Nursing students knowledge (P=0.023) , attitude (P=0.023), and practices (P<0.05) were significantly better than medical students.

Patient’s safety is an effort from health workers in providing safe health services for patients. Hand hygiene is a general term that applies to wash hands with antiseptic and handrub antiseptic. The implementation of operational standards of handwashing compliance procedures requires directing function to the nurses from the head of room. The type of this research was descriptive correlation with cross sectional approach. The population was all implementing nurses at Inpatient Room of Ungaran General Hospital as many as 82 nurses. 82 samples were taken by total sampling. The collecting data tool used a questionnaire ofnurse’s perception of directing function of head of room and observation sheet on hand hygiene. The research results showed that most of the heads of room performed good directing function as many as 76 people (92.7%),most of the nurses were compliance in practicing patient safety: five moment hand hygiene as many as 78 people (95,1%). The result of statistical test using Fisher's Exact Test obtained p value of 0,001 (α = 0,05). There is a correlation between nurse’s perception of directing function of head of room with nurses’ compliance in practicing hand hygiene in Inpatient Room of Ungaran General Hospital.Nurses need to increase patient safety awareness and compliance hand hygiene to minimize the incidence of nosocomial infections.Key words: directing function of head of roomnurses’ compliancehand hygienenurse’s perception

Abstract Introduction Academic stress and study habits are crucial indicators of academic success. At the moment, faulty study habits press on the students into academic stress. The present study was conducted to identify the academic stress and study habits of university students of health science. Methods This cross-sectional descriptive survey was conducted among 150 undergraduate students of nursing, physiotherapy, and pharmacy (n = 50 in each group). A stratified random sampling technique was used to select the study participants. The information on academic stress and study habits was collected by using the Student Stress Inventory and Palsane and Sharma Study Habit Inventory, respectively. Results Mean score of academic stress was found to be 75.353 ± 16.463. Pharmacy students had a higher level of stress compared to physiotherapy and nursing students (p = 0.013). Furthermore, the prevalence of unsatisfactory study habits among undergraduate students was 72%, with a mean score of 52.7 ± 9.152. Also, nursing students had a higher level of study habits compared to physiotherapy and pharmacy Students. There was no significant relationship found between study habits and academic stress (r = −0.048, p = 0.557). There was a significant association found between study habits and gender (p = 0.021), as well the association found between stress level and course type, Pre-University Course percentage, and first-year percentage (p = 0.044, 0.04, and 0.044 respectively). Conclusion Academic stress and poor study habits are prevalent among undergraduate students. This indicates strategies need to be formed to enhance healthy study habits and alleviate the academic stress of the students, mainly in professional courses; it is an urgent need.

Background: Moral distress is considered to be the negative feelings that arise when one knows the morally correct response to a situation but cannot act because of institutional or hierarchal constraints. Objectives: To analyze moral distress and its relation with sociodemographic and academic variables in undergraduate students from different universities in Brazil. Method: Quantitative study with a cross-sectional design. Data were collected through the Moral Distress Scale for Nursing Students, with 499 nursing students from three universities in the extreme south of Brazil answering the scale. The data were analyzed in the statistical software SPSS version 22.0, through descriptive statistical analysis, association tests (t-test and analysis of variance), and linear regression models. Ethical considerations: Approval for the study was obtained from the Research Ethics Committee at Universidade Federal do Rio Grande. Findings: The mean intensity of moral distress in the constructs ranged from 1.60 to 2.55. As to the occurrence of situations leading to moral distress in the constructs, the frequencies ranged from 1.21 to 2.43. The intensity level of moral distress showed higher averages in the more advanced grades of the undergraduate nursing course, when compared to the early grades of this course (between 5 and 10 grade, average = 2.60–3.14, p = 0.000). Conclusion: The demographic and academic characteristics of the undergraduate nursing students who referred higher levels of moral distress were being enrolled in the final course semesters, were at a federal university, and had no prior degree as an auxiliary nurse/nursing technician.
