New Year’s carnivals based on the materials of visual and oral sources of the last quarter of the XX — early XXI centuries

The article deals with the semantics of New Year’s celebrations. The subject of the research was the ways and forms of New Year’s presentation in visual sources, press materials and oral ethnographic sources. Attention is paid to the study of New Year’s aesthetics. An indispensable attribute of children’s New Year’s parties was preparation for masquerade balls. The idea of the sacred meaning of masks and costumes in the context of the rituals of winter holidays is traced.
