ABSTRACTNowadays lacks in environmental education were detected even living in times of global change. In this research, the acquisition of knowledge related to environmental consciousness in secondary school students in northeast Spain is examined. A questionnaire for each secondary course was made with different kind of questions: specific of the course and of the previous knowledge. After a statistical analysis, with R programming language, a unilateral hypothesis contrast where the mean responses of the students answered correctly at the beginning and the end of the different courses of secondary education, were contrasted. After analysis, the results shows that the mean responses answered correctly at the end of the course is greater than the mean at the beginning of course in most cases studied, except two groups. The findings of this study indicate that the education of our students conclude with a meaningful learning as indicated but we should not neglect the non-formal education received by students in order to have people environmentally conscious.RESUMENActualmente se han detectado carencias en la educación ambiental aun estando viviendo momentos de cambio global. Contacto principal: [email protected]

The present study was conducted to ascertain the environmental awareness across gender, locale, type of schools and academic stream among senior secondary school students. The sample of the study comprised of 300 11th class students studying in different government and non- government senior secondary schools of Sambhal district (U.P.) of Moradabad region. Environment Awareness Ability Measure (EAAM) by Praveen Kumar Jha (1998) was used to collect the data for the purpose. The data were analyzed using descriptive (Mean, Standard Deviations) and inferential (‘t’- test) statistics. The findings of the present study revealed that there is significant difference in environmental awareness of senior secondary school students across gender (boys and girls), type of schools (government and non-government) and academic stream (science and arts). However no significant difference is found in case of rural and urban sample. The reason for this result may be the rampant illiteracy in the district. Stakeholders should, therefore, ensure that the curriculum relating to environmental education is transacted as a core curriculum. Other activities related to environmental education viz., curricular, co- curricular and literary activities should also be organized to infuse environmental awareness among students.

Basketball has existed for almost 130 years, becoming one of the most famous sports worldwide by affecting millions of lives and having national and global tournaments. With the general improvement of people's concern and love for sports competition, sports analytics’ role will become more prominent. Hence, this paper combines the relevant knowledge of statistics and typical basketball competition cases from NBA, expounding the application of statistics in sports competition. The paper first examines the importance of normal distribution (also called Gaussian distribution) in statistics through its probability density function and the function's graph. The function has two parameters: the mean for the maximum and standard deviation for the distance away from the mean[1]. By compiling datasets of past teams and individuals for their basketball performances and making simple calculations of their standard deviation and mean, the paper constructs normal distribution graphs using the R programming language. Finally, the paper examines the Real Plus-Minus value and its importance in basketball.

Abstract Background Severe foodborne disease outbreaks have occurred in different continents of the globe in recent decades, particularly due to ineffective food laws, regulatory systems and inadequate food handling knowledge among food handlers and consumers. The purpose of the present study was to assess the food safety knowledge and practices among secondary school students in rural parts of Kogi State, Nigeria. Methods A cross-sectional study using self-administered questionnaires was carried out between October and December, 2017. The study was carried out in two public secondary schools located in a rural area in Kogi State, North-central Nigeria. All consenting students in both schools were recruited for the study. Descriptive analysis and chi-square (χ2) tests were carried out using Statistical Package for Service Solutions v.20. Results A total of 259 out of 300 survey questionnaires were completed and returned (86.33%). The mean age of the study participants was 15.9 ± 2.5 years. There were more males than females (55.2%, n = 143). The mean percent knowledge score was 75.79%. The mean percent practice score was 82.48%. More than half (n = 143, 55.2%) respondents had a good knowledge level, and 54.4% (n = 141) had a good practice level. A significant association was found only between food hygiene knowledge and mothers’ education (χ2 = 9.49, p = 0.023). Conclusion The overall food safety knowledge and practice among the secondary school students surveyed was good. Targeted educational interventions on food safety can be made to improve knowledge and practice of food hygiene among students.

It is generally accepted that in the United States and other modern industrial societies there is a link between formal schooling (number of years of formal education) and social mobility, though some scholars such as Anderson, Blau and Duncan, and Jencks have disputed the strength of this link. The study of educational plans (or "educational expectations") of secondary school students in such societies derives its significance in part from findings of social scientists such as Hauser and Sewell et al. that a positive relationship exists between educational expectation and educational achievement, the latter being measured by number of years of formal schooling received. In order words, the investigation of educational expectation is valuable partly because it is a predictor - albeit a somewhat crude one - of ultimate educational achievement and hence socio-econmic status.

The statistical analysis of Big Data is probably the most advanced frontier of sport and, more recently, of football. This is true even if we must remember that analyses on the dynamics of football have been present for many years, and we cannot forget that this sport has found writers who, as fans and / or sportsmen, have revived, through their writings, the charm of this game. This article deals with Data Analysis and Statistics applied to football. There are many publications dealing with this topic, but here the attempt is to explain how it can be attractive for secondary school students to learn notions of statistics from the analysis of data concerning the most popular of sports. In this case the analysis focuses on the last years of the Italian Serie A League.

The purpose of this research study was to investigate the effects of parental socioeconomic status on the academic achievement of secondary school students in District Karak (Khyber Pakhtunkhwa) Pakistan. The objectives of the study were: (a) to find out the effect of parental socioeconomic status on the academic achievement of secondary school students (b) to determine the effect of parental educational level on the academic achievement of secondary school students (c) to find out the effect of parental occupational level on the academic achievement of secondary school students and (d) to suggest workable recommendations for the enhancement of the students’ academic achievement. All the students studying at secondary school level in District Karak constituted the population of the study. The study was delimited to only sixty government boys’ high schools in District Karak. The study was further delimited to the students of 10th Class. In order to represent adequate representation of population, only 1500 secondary school students were selected randomly at the rate of 25 students from each school. The study was survey type and therefore the researchers decided to develop self-developed questionnaire for the collection of data. Pilot testing was conducted to explore the weakness, misconceptions and ambiguities of the questionnaire. After the conduction of pilot testing, final version of the questionnaire was developed and prepared. The researchers personally visited to the respective sample and distributed questionnaires among the participants. In this way data was collected. After collection of data, the data was organized, tabulated and analyzed. Chi-square and percentage were used for the statistical analysis of the data. After statistical analysis of data, the researchers concluded that parental socio-economic status; parent’s educational level, parental occupational level; and parental income level affect the academic achievement of students at secondary level. Therefore it is strongly recommended that unemployment should be controlled. Poor students should be provided scholarships, free books and other stationary. In addition, it is also recommended that government should take steps to raise socioeconomic status of people. KEY WORDS: Parental Socioeconomic status, academic achievement, secondary school students

Background and Study Aim. Non-sport activities like traditional games can be a practical way to promote physical activity (PA) during physical education (PE) lessons, especially among those who are less inclined towards sports. The purpose of this study is to compare the PA variables and acceptance between playing traditional games and free-play during physical education lessons among secondary school students. Material and Methods. Fifty-six (n = 56) subjects participated in this study wore accelerometers for a total of 40 minutes during each PE lesson to record PA. In the first week, a 40-min free-play PE lesson was done while in the second week, a 40-min PE lesson incorporated with traditional games (TG-PE lesson) was done. After following both lessons, subjects filled up a questionnaire on acceptance of TG-PE and free-play PE lessons. Results. The mean total activity count (p < 0.05) and time spent in moderate-to-vigorous physical activity (MVPA) (p < 0.05) were 20% and 19% greater respectively during TG-PE lesson compared to free-play PE lesson. The mean acceptance scores showed students preferred playing TG (19.29 ± 4.21; p < 0.00) over free-play PE lesson (17.59 ± 3.13). Conclusions. In conclusion, incorporating fun and meaningful activities such as TG during PE lessons can serve as an alternative strategy to promote PA during school hours. Further studies are warranted to determine other types of TG that may promote PA among secondary school students.
