ABSTRACTParis are a emblematic and paradigmatic city cause it's most showing in images. The landscape, the Urbanism, the architectural forms are used as a model to city around the world, inclusively in Brazil. Talking about urban imaginary, at any context, demand uses this referential space. This is a city who has a very long time of existence and a very big cultural legacy who produce a very rich representation. Woody Allen at "Midnight in Paris" was captured the essence of this imaginary where, to find the real city, we need search them at an old era. The time steps surround the city and suited their landscape, as proven W. Benjamin (1989) the temporal elements more heterogeneous can be found side-by-side. In this way, this article's goal is, such a city's image showing at "Midnight in Paris", analyzing the senses of urban temporalities at her relationship with the paradigmatic imaginary of the French's capital city, overall as irradiating of model and metaphors. The theoretical and methodological support used for this examination is Gaston Bachelard's imagination's phenomenology and the Walter Benjamin elaboration, where an imaginary "flanerie" will be undertaken at this time-city wrought by W. Allen.RESUMOParis é uma cidade emblemática e paradigmática por ser a mais difundida em imagens.

From 1929 to 1932, the German critical theorist Walter Benjamin broadcast a radio show intended for children, «Enlightenment for Children» (Aufklärung für Kinder). His program consisted of illuminating lessons that bound together culture and history in creative ways, to teach children about the world. Used as a tool for convivial purposes, the radio waves transported German kinder to the sites where witch trials happened, or to learn the secret language built into the city walls of Berlin, or to wonder about the life of the Romani and imagine the features of the many characters that formed part of Benjamin’s radio plays. It was an imaginative pedagogical exercise that has made me wonder about the possibilities of technological tools in the service of learning experiences.

This chapter introduces the reader to the idea of city marketing. This idea has developed over time, globally, as cities continue to grow rapidly. The chapter assesses how city marketing as a concept and a practice has generally developed with particular reference to Botswana, Southern Africa. Using evidence from documented material this chapter critically reviews city marketing as perceived and applied by planners and policy makers. The chapter looks at how Information Communication Technologies (ICTs) can be used to market cities such as Gaborone, the capital city of Botswana. Literature and experiences from other parts of the world are used to underscore city growth as a serious development issue. City dwellers are identified as key stakeholders in city marketing because they have a more permanent association with the city in contrast to those who come into the city to visit or for business, tourism, and other purposes.

Steven D. Smith’s Pagans and Christians in the City takes its place alongside James Davison Hunter’s Culture Wars as one of the two truly indispensable books on today’s Culture Wars. It advances our understanding of today’s conflict by situating it historically and focusing our attention on its religious dimension. Smith argues that today’s conflict is the latest episode in a longstanding conflict between immanent forms of religiosity which locate the sacred in the world of space and time, and transcendent forms of religiosity which locate the divine beyond space and time. As compelling as it is, the volume’s argument would have been strengthened by a more sustained treatment of the nature of the political community and the essential role played within it by the truths held in common by the members concerning God, man, nature, and history.

Representation of a tourist destination on the media which able to reach around the world is very crucial in order to introduce and promote it to the large scope of the public. The internet, particularly website is one of the media to let people recognise and realise a destination as the place to visit. A study found most tourists visit and explore an official website and then to respond as if they were planning to travel to the destination (Jeon, et.al, 2017). This indicates that the official website still plays an important role in tourists’ decision making pre-visiting. Jakarta, for example, as one of a tourist destination, at once is also a capital city of Indonesia, central of business in Indonesia and a modern city. Therefore, the concepts of representation play an important role to depict Jakarta as a destination, for example, the use of themes to represent Jakarta as a holiday place on the website, such as focusing on the traditional and modern Jakarta (Djumrianti, 2016). Thus, the purpose of this paper is to analyse how the exoticism concept is used through twenty-five photos and fourteen sections of texts on the official websites which last update in 2014. The study found exoticism idea is one of the strategies used by the Jakarta government in the representation of the city on the Enjoy Jakarta website and the Portal Site of Jakarta Capital City. This concept influences on the commercialisation of Jakarta as a whole a tourist destination.

David Hilbert, upon whom the world looked during the last decades as the greatest of the living mathematicians, died in Gottingen, Germany, on 14 February 1943. At the age of eighty-one he succumbed to a compound fracture of the thigh brought about by a domestic accident. Hilbert was born on 23 January 1862, in the city of Konigsberg in East Prussia. He was descended from a family which had long been settled there and had brought forth a series of physicians and judges. During his entire life he preserved uncorrupted the Baltic accent of his home. For a long time Hilbert remained faithfully attached to the town of his forbears, and well deserved its honorary citizenship which was bestowed upon him in his later years.

‘To grasp Paris, one has to live with Paris for a long time’. French impressions from journeys of Łucja Rautenstrauch from the ducal family of Giedroyć The article is a short attempt to present the reader with a profile of the now-forgotten Łucja Rautenstrauch from the ducal family of Giedroyć, a nineteenth century writer and traveller, who gained her fame and appreciation in the epoch thanks to her travel writings. Two of Łucja Rautenstrauch’s works deserve special attention: My memories of France [Wspomnienia moje o Francyi] and The last journey to France [Ostatnia podróż do Francyi], where she gave an impartial description of Paris. The author depicts the city pointing both to its good and bad sides. Her memories distinguish themselves from among other travel writings because of the author’s unusual sense of perception and the accuracy of her remarks. One will not find any instances of artificial admiration nor unnecessary humility in front of the people who meant more than her. On the contrary, an image of an educated aristocrat who does not feel the obligation to uphold the rules of the world she did not appreciate emerges for My memories of France. In the same work Łucja Rautenstrauch focuses on the description of the visible and external world: the customs, fashion, the French street, the salon and the history of the visited places.

The objective of this article is to analyze the implementation of eco-neighborhoods in the city of Madrid. This is a new formulation that joins, within neighborhood scale, purposes of environmental sustainability with social and economic aims. First, we make a general approach reviewing the initiatives proposed in the capital city and then we will make an analysis of the eco-neighborhood of Vallecas, the only one still working. We have looked through the official approach, the present bibliography, the official statements, the interpretations of the technicians, the resident’s opinions exposed in websites, social networks and press. The field research and the collection of information through conversations with the agents involved were the keys to verify the real results of the projects. We consider that the development and the conclusion of these initiatives have been a failure. The reasons are in its origin and the process of realization, but mainly in the confused premises that were the foundation of its design and localization. The absence of dialogue with neighbors and associations turned the official speeches and plans in something strange to the citizen’s necessities of the southern area, with the lowest rents of Madrid.

Robert browning'S Love Among the Ruins (1855) is comprised chiefly of descriptions of a once-great capital city—its present desolate site as contrasted with the city's magnificence in the ancient days of its splendor. William C. DeVane suggests that the poem is “a vivid recollection of the Italian scene, or perhaps of some picture which Browning had recently seen in the Louvre.” Three critics maintain the Roman Campagna to be the scene which Browning had in mind, but cite no descriptions of this area pertinent to the poem. Bernhard Fehr shows that the city of the poem resembles the description of Babylon given in the History of Herodotus and the Apocalypse of St. John. Robert A. Law suggests that Browning drew upon i Chronicles for two images and thus had in mind Jerusalem. A recent commentator proposes that the poem was suggested by some remarks on the transience of great cities in Letter cxvii of Goldsmith's Citizen of the World.

This chapter focuses on Lenny Patrick and the changes he had ushered into the world of Chicago’s Jewish gangsters. As someone of Jewish Lawndale, yet excluded from the real riches, he was the perfect hammer to take out the independent Jewish gangsters. Benjamin Zuckerman may have died in a scene out of a gangster film, but the bosses behind Patrick were businessmen first. They directed their killers for long-term financial gain, in a way that would give them greater leverage over the city. It was the start of a different story. And, of course, it was the end of Zuckerman’s story. Once the Syndicate decided to replace the confederation model with the corporate one, there simply was no room for him anymore.
