In conditions of exceeding the maximum permissible levels of power frequency electric field, the staff must use personal protective equipment. Requirements for such means are regulated by the system of occupational safety standards. The goal of this work is analyzed new requirements for power frequency and induced personal protective equipment in the regulatory interstate standards GOST 12.4.172 and GOST 12.4.283. The personal protective equipment new requirements for various types of work are substantiated to electrical personnel health safety during the maintenance and operation of power grid facilities. Increasing requirements for personal protective equipment improves the staff protection at ground potential and at wire potential, including in emergency situations such as induced and step voltage.

Emergency management is one of the priorities of the contemporary universities, because of the risks faced by the university work of academic and technical fields. This risk may be the result of the nature of the work done by the human element or of natural disasters or through the risks integrated between them. The study aimed to determine the availability of security and safety procedures in the Islamic University facilities in the Gaza, Palestine. Also, to prepare proposed scenarios for emergency management based on risk assumptions. The study used the descriptive and analytical methodologies of the situation in laboratory facilities and engineering workshops by using the interview tool with the emergency specialists in the safety and security committee. The most important results of the study were that the security and safety standards of the Islamic University are not directly defined by international, regional or national standards, but the necessary requirements are deducted from the University. Also, the risks that threaten the University include: fire risk, the risk of explosions, the risk of bombing, mechanical hazards and human hazards, where the risk of fire is most likely. The study recommended the need to form an emergency committee to include all faculties in the University and work to determine the responsibilities accurately, also prepare a guide to educate students and staff of the threats of risks at the Islamic University, and the formation of a specialized team to evacuate facilities and evacuate the special needs in the event of an emergency. The article discusses the problem of the child forming the basics of safe behavior and culture of safety. The main broadcaster, according to the authors, this information is the parent and at the same time the family acts as a supporting factor. The subject of the study was parents' perception of the safety of their own children. 280 parents from families of various types under the age of 59 with at least one minor child were interviewed. The questionnaire included two blocks of questions: the observance of the rules of safe behavior of the child and parents. It has been established that parents are aware of their responsibility for the child's knowledge of the culture of life safety and consider children to be able to cope with possible dangers. Most parents perceive the culture of safety not just as a set of rules and skills, but as a component of a full-fledged lifestyle.

Agriculture is a hazardous occupational industry for farmers and farm workers; therefore, decisions to improve safety in the working place require understanding behavior of farmers and farm workers and factors affecting it. This study examined factors influencing perceived importance of personal safety and safe behavior of farmers in terms of personal protective equipment (PPE) use in pesticide spraying. Data were collected from a previous survey of farmers in rural areas of northern Greece. Over half of the farmers (55.4%) perceived low importance of personal safety in pesticide spraying. Perceived importance of personal safety increased in young farmers, with high education level, and large land area as well as with high perception of risk, knowledge of pesticide toxicity, seminar in pesticide use, access to internet, and perceived usefulness of PPE. Most farmers showed unsafe behavior in PPE use in terms of using long-sleeved shirt, long pants, chemical resistant gloves, socks, and shoes (58.9%). Farmers perceived low risk of pesticides (65.2%), despite the fact that two out of three farmers (66.1%) perceived high usefulness of PPE. Safe behavior in pesticide use increased in young farmers, with high education level, and small land area as well as with high perception of risk, knowledge of pesticide toxicity, seminar in pesticide use, access to internet, and perceived usefulness of PPE. Binary logistic regression analysis showed that knowledge of pesticide toxicity, education, age, and farm size were significant predictors of perceived importance of personal safety. In addition, self-confidence in spraying, following colleagues’ behaviors, risk perception, knowledge of pesticide toxicity, and farm size were significant predictors of safe behavior in terms of PPE use during pesticide spraying. Findings highlight differences in how farmers perceive personal safety and how they finally respond in daily action with respect to personal safety measures. Perception of risk, knowledge of pesticide toxicity, and farm size were common significant predictors for both variables. Lifelong education targeting promotion of knowledge about pesticide risks among farmers should be always a priority.

This chapter demonstrates a practical application of electromyography (EMG) technology in assessing the potential negative impacts of new trends (i.e., prolonged sitting) in life and work on people’s health. With the development of advanced technologies, prolonged sitting, have become more frequent at work and in everyday life. The potential risks associated with prolonged sitting can be assessed by evaluating localized muscle states using various EMG-based methods. However, due to the unique characteristics of prolonged sitting (i.e., sustained low-load condition), there are several challenges in applying traditional EMG methods to estimate the prolonged sitting related risks. Therefore, from the following aspects, this chapter discusses the potential applications and challenges of using surface EMG-based methods in identifying the effects of prolonged sitting: (1) what are the unique characteristics of the task conditions involved in prolonged sitting; (2) what are the available EMG-based methods; and (3) the advantage and disadvantage of each method in evaluating the impacts of prolonged sitting on people’s health;
