Activation of emergency management at the Islamic university Gaza with proposed scenarios to reduce risks and crises | تفعيل إدارة الطوارئ بالجامعة الإسلامية بغزة: مع سيناريوهات مقترحة للحد من المخاطر والأزمات

Emergency management is one of the priorities of the contemporary universities, because of the risks faced by the university work of academic and technical fields. This risk may be the result of the nature of the work done by the human element or of natural disasters or through the risks integrated between them. The study aimed to determine the availability of security and safety procedures in the Islamic University facilities in the Gaza, Palestine. Also, to prepare proposed scenarios for emergency management based on risk assumptions. The study used the descriptive and analytical methodologies of the situation in laboratory facilities and engineering workshops by using the interview tool with the emergency specialists in the safety and security committee. The most important results of the study were that the security and safety standards of the Islamic University are not directly defined by international, regional or national standards, but the necessary requirements are deducted from the University. Also, the risks that threaten the University include: fire risk, the risk of explosions, the risk of bombing, mechanical hazards and human hazards, where the risk of fire is most likely. The study recommended the need to form an emergency committee to include all faculties in the University and work to determine the responsibilities accurately, also prepare a guide to educate students and staff of the threats of risks at the Islamic University, and the formation of a specialized team to evacuate facilities and evacuate the special needs in the event of an emergency. Keywords: The Islamic University-Gaza, Emergency, Risk, Security and Safety, Emergency Response. --------------------------------------------- تعد إدارة الطوارئ من الأولويات لدى الجامعات المعاصرة؛ وذلك لما يتعرض له العمل الجامعي من مخاطر في المجالات الأكاديمية والفنية، وهذا الخطر قد يكون ناتجاً عن طبيعة العمل الذي يقوم به العنصر البشري أو من الكوارث الطبيعية أو من خلال المخاطر المدمجة بينها. هدفت الدراسة إلى تحديد مدى توافر إجراءات الأمن والسلامة في مرافق الجامعة الإسلامية بغزة، فلسطين، مع إعداد سيناريوهات مقترحة لإدارة الطوارئ في الجامعة الإسلامية بناءً على فرضيات الخطر. وتم استخدام المنهج الوصفي والمنهج التحليلي للوضع القائم في المرافق المخبرية والمشاغل الهندسية, وذلك من خلال استخدام أداة المقابلة مع المختصين في مجال الطوارئ في لجنة الأمن و السلامة. كانت أهم نتائج الدراسة أن معايير الأمن والسلامة المتبعة في الجامعة الإسلامية غير محددة بشكل مباشر من المعايير الدولية أو الإقليمية أو الوطنية، ولكن يتم استقطاع ما يلزم الجامعة منها، كذلك المخاطر التي تهدد الجامعة الإسلامية تشمل خطر الحريق، وخطر الانفجارات، وخطر القصف، والأخطار الميكانيكية, والمخاطر البشرية بحيث تعتبر مخاطر الحريق الأكثر احتمالاً. وقد أوصت الدراسة بضرورة تشكيل لجنة طوارئ تشمل كل الكليات في الجامعة, وتحديد المسئوليات بها بدقة، وإعداد دليل إرشادي معلن للتوعية الطلبة والعاملين من المخاطر التي تهدد الجامعة، وتشكيل فريق متخصص لإخلاء المرافق وإخلاء ذوي الاحتياجات الخاصة في حالة حدوث طارئ. الكلمات المفتاحية: الجامعة الإسلامية بغزة، إدارة الطوارئ، المخاطر، الأمن والسلامة، الاستجابة للطوارئ.

In Reply.— We appreciate the comments of Kashani, Swensson and Merritt. We are cognizant of the pioneering work done through the years at the University of California at San Diego in relation to the management of respiratory distress syndrome (RDS). The multicenter trial1 established diagnostic criteria for patent ductus arteriosus (PDA) in 1978. In view of the unknown toxicity of indomethacin at that time, high specificity rather than maximum sensitivity was of prime concern. We wanted to enroll in our trial only those infants in whom the degree of ductal shunting was leading to sufficient cardiopulmonary compromise to cause a threat to the infant and to warrant the use of a potentially toxic drug or surgery.

Mexico City is one of the most water-stressed cities in the world; poor quality water occurs in several parts of the City. The use of rainwater harvesting (RWH) as a source of drinking water is gaining acceptance in several contexts, but the quality of the water obtained through these systems has not been sufficiently studied. This manuscript presents the results of water quality tests from samples taken in each component of an RWH system, installed by Isla Urbana at the National Autonomous University of Mexico (UNAM), southern Mexico City. The RWH system culminates with a drinking fountain which supplies water for the students, and other members of the university community. Samples were retrieved from August 2014 to November 2015, approximately once per month. Results showed that with an adequate operation of the RWH system the major ions, fluoride, zinc, arsenic, lead, iron, copper, chromium, aluminum, nitrate, and total coliforms comply with national standards and international guidelines for drinking water. Thus, RWH constitutes a viable option for providing good quality water in a megacity that will become increasingly water-stressed due to climate change.

Abstract Introduction: Regular physical activity can prevent sharp decline in the level of physical fitness of older people [1]. Both the quantity and quality of physical activity are important [2]. The aim of this study was to evaluate selected forms of physical activity of older people in terms of intensity of effort. Material and methods: In the study participated 10 women at the age of 73.6 ± 6.5 years, from the Third Age University at the University of Physical Education in Warsaw. The study included four forms: gymnastics, Nordic walking, dancing and Tai Chi. The study used IDEEA device (Intelligent Device for Energy Expenditure and Activity) and a pulse recorder (Polar). In addition, each of the woman immediately after class evaluated its intensity with the 20 points Borg Scale. Results: The results indicate a large diversity of physical activity in terms of work done, energy consumption, heart rate. Nordic Walking classes were most intense (2.8 kJ/min, 3.5 kcal/min, 101.5 beats/min) and Tai Chi was least intense (0.5 kJ/min, 1.6 kcal/min , 65 beats/ min). Subjective evaluation of intensity (Borg Scale) of the trainings confirms the values obtained by the objective methods - quite heavy (14 points) in Nordic Walking and very light (10 points) in Tai Chi. Conclusions: There is a need for a reliable analysis of proposed forms for the elderly in Poland. Using multiple measurement tools will help to increase the objectivity of the evaluation and defining their impact on the capabilities of older people. A comprehensive assessment can be used in programming physical activity for older people.

This study explores the structure of the mental lexicon and the processing of Russian verbal morphology by two groups of speakers, adult American learners of Russian and Russian children aged 4-6, and reports the results of two matching experiments conducted at the University of Maryland, USA and St. Petersburg State University, Russia. The theoretical framework for this study comes from research on the structure of the mental lexicon and modularity in morphological processing. So far, there are very few studies investigating the processing of complex verbal morphology, with most of the work done on Icelandic, Norwegian, Italian, and Russian. The current views are shaped predominantly by research on English regular and irregular past-tense inflection, which has been conducted within two competing approaches. This study investigates the processing of verbal morphology in Russian, a language with numerous verb classes differing in size and the number and complexity of conjugation rules. It assumes that instead of a sharp opposition of regular and irregular verb processing, a gradual parameter of regularity may be more appropriate for Russian. Therefore, the issue of symbolic rule application versus associative patterning can take on a new meaning for Russian, possibly, with the distinction between default and non-default processing replacing the regular-irregular distinction.

<p class="AbstractText">This paper presents the findings of a study carried out in the academic year 2014-2015 at the faculty of Education of the University of Murcia with first year degree students in Primary Education studying Research and ICT. The study started with the application of the DIGCOM questionnaire to analyze the digital competences of 134 students. The questionnaire served as an initial task to help students reflect on their digital competences. The subject was developed around tasks which adopted a transversal approach and used the nature of the contents itself to direct and improve students’ digital competencies. Finally, the initial questionnaire was reformulated and run in order to ascertain the students’ self-perception of their improvement in these competencies through the tasks they had performed.</p> <p class="AbstractText">Below we present the tasks carried out, the organization of each subject and the most relevant data regarding the self-perception of digital competencies of the future primary school teachers enrolled at the University of Murcia. The data reveal, on the one hand, that the students participating consider themselves to be competent in the most basic aspects of digital competencies and, on the other, their perception that the work done in the subject has helped them quite a lot in improving their competencies.</p>

The Department of Communication places a high value on media literacy across its programs and curricula and this chapter describes the department's carefully structured approach to media literacy.

This article asks how leaders emerge out of moments and movements of whiteness. It asks how we sit with, endure through, or protest against the new values that are created as we tumble into the interstices of this political space. This article, based on the author's assumptions and imaginations about a postgraduate student's silence in class discussion, explores possibilities of finding new modes of participation in class and therefore in democracy and in our globalized lives. Through thinking with Liang, a Chinese student in a university classroom in Scotland, this inquiry begins to articulate the implications of the current political landscape for the work done in the university. This article, in its original form, was presented at the European Congress of Qualitative Inquiry in Leuven, Belgium, on February 2017 and was written in the aftermath of the United Kingdom's decision to leave the European Union.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to provide an Australian perspective of impact and value by examining how the broader international and national perspectives play out in practice in the Australian context and where adaption for local requirements is necessary. Design/methodology/approach This paper will explore the assessment of impact and value in academic libraries and the tools available to translate today’s inputs into future impact and value. It will focus on a range of methods and procedures, including international and national standards, frameworks and benchmarks. Findings The La Trobe University Library is presented as a case study to examine the challenges of leveraging tools to assess impact and communicate the value of the library across the university community. Originality/value Assessing the impact and demonstrating the value of the academic library in a digital environment is a constant challenge. While usage and service data are plentiful, traditional metrics no longer sufficiently demonstrate the academic library’s contribution to university learning, teaching and research outcomes.

An online program developed at the University of Costa Rica provides the professionals working in meteorology a new way to pursue graduate level degrees. The focus of this graduate program is Operational Meteorology and the students need to complete the research and development process of an operational product to graduate. The products created during the program are a solution to operational institutions in need of innovation and can later be incorporated into institutional activities including advisories, warnings and emergency management. A case study included here shows an example of the need that led to the product, the methodologies used for the development and the final operational product created.
