Purpose: The main purpose of this study is to assess the impact of ICT integration on Electrical Installation and Maintenance work trade teachers in technical colleges in Kano state, Nigeria. Approach/Methodology/Design: Descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study was 57 which consisted of 26 experienced 31 inexperienced teachers of Electrical Installation and Maintenance Works Trade. No sampling technique was employed as the entire population was used. The instrument used for data collection was a structured questionnaire titled: Impact of ICT Integration on Electrical Installation and Maintenance Work Trade Questionnaire (IICTIEIMWTQ) developed by the researchers. The instrument was validated by three experts and a reliability coefficient of 0.89 was obtained using Cronbach’s Alpha reliability method. Mean and standard deviation was used to answer the research questions, while z-test was used to test the null hypotheses at 0.05 level of significance. Findings: The finding of the study revealed that the level of ICT integration in teaching electrical installation and maintenance trade is low; the impact of ICT on the performance of electrical installation and maintenance trade teachers indicated negative impact. Practical Implications: The study has practical implications for teachers. Based on the findings, Electrical Installation and Maintenance Work Trade Teachers should engage themselves in group discussion and idea sharing among them on improving ICT integration in teaching electrical installation and maintenance trade among others. Originality/value: The performance of ICT users will improve as there are several platforms available for the ICT.

Purpose: This study examined the perceived family-related determinants and implications of the low enrolment of female students in electrical installation and maintenance works in government science technical colleges of Adamawa State. Approach/Methodology/Design: A descriptive survey research design was adopted for the study. The population of the study consisted of 13 Electrical Installation and Maintenance Work Trade (EIMWT) teachers and 129 parents of National Technical Certificate Two (NTCII) EIMWT students (either father or mother) in three Government Science Technical Colleges of Adamawa State. The sample of the study comprised of the entire population, thus no sampling was done. A 20-item questionnaire was developed by the researcher and used for data collection. The questionnaire was validated by three lecturers from the Department of Electrical Technology Education, Modibbo Adama University, Yola, Adamawa State. A reliability coefficient of 0.87 was obtained for the instrument using Cronbach Alpha. Mean was used to answer the research questions while a t-test was used to test the hypotheses. Findings: The findings of the study revealed low contribution from the female gender to family income in households and increased level of dependency of the female gender on the males in Adamawa State as major perceived family-related implications. Practical Implications: The study presents practical implications for concerned authorities to work on dismantling the negative perceptions about female education. The results suggest working closely with several institutions to raise awareness and enlighten parents and family members on the prospects of EIMWT, especially to the female gender. Originality/value: The study concludes that EIMWT is a way of investing in the education of females in view of breaking cycles of poverty and social vices that the females might be lured into.

Purpose Extending the theory of planned behaviour and the perspective of available resources, the purpose of this study is to expatiate the influence behavioural antecedents of available resources on electrical installation and maintenance work students’ (EIMW) entrepreneurial intentions (EIs) in technical colleges. Design/methodology/approach The study adopted a multistage sampling technique to select samples for the study. Data collected were analyzed using structural equation models in the empirical analysis. Findings The study showed that attitude, subjective norms, perceived behavioural control and perceived efficacy are behavioural antecedents that can be manipulated by exogenous factors to enhance EIMW students’ EIs. Originality/value This study stirs the government and other education agencies on the need to strengthen the technical institutions through adequate funding, employment of skilled personnel and provision of up-to-date types of machinery and equipment to help the students to compete globally. Therefore, adequate application of available resources will foster positive behaviours of EIMW students towards establishing their business venture.

This study determined the perceived socio-economic factors and effects of low enrolment of female students in Electrical Installation and Maintenance Works Trade in Government Technical Colleges on women empowerment in Adamawa State. Two specific objectives guided the present study. The population of the study consisted of 13 Electrical Installation and Maintenance Work Trade (EIMWT) teachers and 129 parents (either father or mother) of National Technical Certificate Two (NTCII) EIMWT students in three Government Technical Colleges of Adamawa State. The research subjects of the study comprised the entire population, thus no sampling was done. The instrument was validated by three experts and yielded a reliability co-efficient of 0.81. Mean was used in data analysis to answer the research questions. The findings of the study revealed an increasing number of technically unskilled female folks in Adamawa State as major perceived socio-economic effect. Other findings include gender inequality and regress in the fight to end poverty among the female folk in Adamawa State. The study recommended among others that Adamawa State Government in collaboration with corporate bodies should embark on an awareness campaign in order to enlighten parents and family members on the prospects of EIMWT especially to female gender.

The need to evolve an innovative approach that can improve the practical learning outcomes among technical college students necessitated this study. Thus, the present study investigated the effect of innovative pedagogy integration in electrical installation and maintenance works in technical colleges in Enugu and Lagos states of Nigeria. The study adopted a school-based randomised Solomon Four-Group Design involving a treatment group versus the control group. We selected three hundred and fifteen (315) technical college year two (TC II) electrical installation and maintenance work students who met the study’s inclusion criteria from the technical colleges in Enugu and Lagos state of Nigeria. The intervention consisted of eight weeks of innovative pedagogy treatment. Electrical installation and Maintenance Achievement Test (EMAT) were used for data collection. We used analysis of variance, t-test for independent samples, and Chi-Squared for data analysis. The outcome indicated that innovative pedagogy improved students’ learning outcomes and significantly affected students’ EMAT achievement among electrical installation and maintenance work students in the treatment group compared to their control group counterparts. The study showed, no significant main difference across all the control variables. Finally, there is no interaction effect of pre-test and treatment conditions. Thus, the current study suggests that technical college teachers should adopt innovative teaching approaches to improve students’ learning outcomes, mainly because access to teaching and learning resources is limited.


The purpose of this study is to uncover employers’ assessment of possessed generic green skills for green jobs of electrical installation and maintenance work graduates of technical college in Nigeria. The study used 120 out of 140 employers of technical College Graduates in Adamawa State. The instrument used for the data collection was a questionnaire. Mean and standard deviation were used to analyze research data. The hypothesis was tested at 0.05 level of significance. The findings reveal that, in the rewinding of electrical machines modules of electrical installation and maintenance work, technical college graduates have adequate skills to work in the industry except in few areas like: conduct of preventive maintenance and testing faults in electrical filing machines’ winding, the ability to locate faults in electrical filing machines’ winding, carrying out insulation resistance test, interpreting drawings of electrical equipment where they showed averagely adequate and slightly adequate skills. Similarly, from the data obtained and analyzed, the result indicates that the graduates have adequate skills in industrial installation except in few areas like: Ability to handle power transmission equipment and components, maintain simple power tools, to test simple power tools, to interpret drawings of electrical equipment, to read symbols. Therefore, the researchers concluded that technical college graduates have adequate technical skills for green jobs and to work in the industries.

Purpose: The study investigated the effects of reflective inquiry teaching method on students’ academic achievement in domestic installation modules in technical colleges of Yobe State, Nigeria. Methodology/Approach/Design: The study is quasi-experimental in design. A pre-test and post-test   were conducted for both control and experimental groups. Two classes from four Technical Colleges were selected to give a sample size of 88. Electrical Installation and Maintenance Work Trade Achievement Test (EIMWTAT) was used to generate data for the study. The instrument was validated by three experts in the Department of Electrical Technology Education, Modibbo Adama University of Technology, Yola. To determine the reliability of the instrument, Cronbach’s Alpha was used and a reliability coefficient of 0.91 was obtained. Mean statistics was used to answer the research questions, while the null hypotheses were tested using t-test at 0.5 level of significance. Results: The study revealed that reflective inquiry teaching method improves student academic achievement when compared with the demonstration teaching method. It further revealed that reflective inquiry teaching method is not gender biased as both male and female students performed effectively in domestic installation. The study concluded that when students are taught domestic installation using reflective enquiry method, they performed better than when taught using conventional method. Practical Implications: The results of the study may have implications for teaching staff in Technical Colleges of Yobe State, Nigeria. Based on the results of the study, the reflective method can be applied in the teaching and learning of domestic installation, industrial installation and electrical installation and maintenance works in technical colleges. Originality/Value: The study innovates by experimenting with the effect of reflective inquiry in teaching Domestic Installation Module in Technical Colleges of Yobe State, Nigeria. From the analysis, the reflective inquiry was found effective in teaching domestic installation as students’ academic achievement was significantly high. By this, the use of reflective inquiry in the teaching of domestic installation, which is now being introduced, is highly commendable.

AbstractWith a theory of planned behaviour (TPB) framework, this study examined how the link between resources and behavioural factors influence the entrepreneurial intentions of electrical installation and maintenance work (EIMW) students. It showed how available resources, which are defined as those controlled by the technical institutions but are accessible by the students, influence their behaviour and consequently their entrepreneurial intention. Different approaches are used in the study to analyse the primary data collected from EIMW students and an empirical analysis was done using structural equation model. The study showed the robustness of TPB model in the face of available resource that attitude, subjective norms and perceived behavioural control are behavioural factors that can be positively influence by several exogenous factors to enhance EIMW students’ entrepreneurial intentions. The results of the study enhance the institutional training of staff and instructors at all management to give career counselling services and be vast in the career opportunities available in the field of study. This skill will motivate EIMW students towards establishing their business venture.
