Bus stations are one of the most widely used components of the public transportation system by citizens. Many critical information, such as the list of bus lines passing through the station, the station-based schedule of the bus lines and when the vehicle operating in the transportation system will pass through the station, are calculated and published according to the station number. For this reason, the station number is being memorable by the citizens and the station numbers of the bus stations, which are spatially close to each other, are numerically very close to each other, are very important in terms of easy learning of the station number. Bus station numbers are usually numbered according to the order in which the line routes pass through the stations. However, considering this case, there is a huge difference between the inconsistency in the station numbers and the station numbers of the stations that are spatially close to each other, when the line route is changed or when the station numbers and the order of passing from the stations are different for different lines passing through the same station. In this study, a hierarchical clustering-based new approach has been proposed to eliminate the problems in bus station numbers and to set bus station numbers that are spatially close to each other. The proposed approach was carried out using the real bus line route and bus station data of Kahramanmaraş Metropolitan Municipality. In the experimental evaluations, the difference between the bus station numbers created by the classical method and the difference of the bus station numbers created by the hierarchical clustering method that spatially close to each other were compared. Experimental results show that the proposed hierarchical-based clustering method creates a closer number of station that are spatially close to each other when compared to the classical method.

Passenger satisfaction is an important factor that affects the choice of travel modes for municipalities, especially in big cities. This evaluation is an important task for managers when they are considering improving the competitiveness of the public transportation system. However, passenger satisfaction evaluation is difficult as the information provided by passengers is often vague, imprecise, and uncertain. This paper aims to propose a new method, using Pythagorean fuzzy sets and multi-objective optimization by a ratio analysis plus full multiplicative form method (MULTIMOORA), to evaluate the passenger satisfaction level of the public transportation system under large group environment. The former is employed to represent the satisfaction assessments of rail transit network provided by passengers. The latter is extended and used to determine the passenger satisfaction levels of rail transit lines. In addition, a combination weighting method is suggested to compute the relative weights of evaluation criteria. A case study of the rail transit network in Shanghai is provided to demonstrate the effectiveness of the proposed passenger satisfaction evaluation method. The result shows that the new method proposed in this study can not only model passengers’ satisfaction evaluation information with more uncertainties, but also determine more reasonable and credible satisfaction levels of rail transit lines.

Abstract Asteroid families are a valuable source of information to many asteroid-related researches, assuming a reliable list of their members could be obtained. However, as the number of known asteroids increases fast it becomes more and more difficult to obtain a robust list of members of an asteroid family. Here, we are proposing a new approach to deal with the problem, based on the well-known hierarchical clustering method. An additional step in the whole procedure is introduced in order to reduce a so-called chaining effect. The main idea is to prevent chaining through an already identified interloper. We show that in this way a number of potential interlopers among family members is significantly reduced. Moreover, we developed an automatic online-based portal to apply this procedure, i.e. to generate a list of family members as well as a list of potential interlopers. The Asteroid Families Portal is freely available to all interested researchers.

Abstract This article proposes an online voltage balancing scheme using a new comparative reference wave modulation technique applied to modified modular multilevel converter (MMMC). Recent applications of modular multilevel converter (MMC) in high-voltage DC systems experience many problems with unbalancing of upper and lower arms, due to which circulating currents are rotating in the legs of MMC. These circulating currents pass through the arm inductors and create power loss across the inductor which consequently affects the efficiency of system. In order to overcome the unbalancing and to reduce the power losses, it proposes a new topology for existing MMC called as MMMC. Its main idea is to the balance the system voltage according to the difference between upper and lower arm currents. The upper and lower arm capacitors voltages can be well balanced by proposed technique. Compared to conventional PWM methods, this method can be realized easily. Particularly, this method has not used any kind of sorting technique, which makes it suitable for MMC with a large number of sub-modules. With experiments, the proposed method has been verified successfully.

Jakarta is the second most populous city in the world with a population density of 10 million people in 2017. Density causes rapid development in the Jakarta area without any planning. The development that occurs makes the boundaries between office zoning located in the downtown area and residential zones located on the edge of the city. The zones formed have resulted in increased mobility that can be seen from vehicle ownership, transportation modes, and traffic congestion in Jakarta. Charles Montgomery in the book Happy City said that high congestion causes a decline in health that occurs due to stress for the community of public transportation modes. One way to reduce stress is to socialize according to Adhiatma and Christianto (2019). Third Place or social space becomes a solution for socializing for the public transportation community. The Third Place concept can be felt more by the public transportation community, where they can feel the difference between the housing zone and the office zone. The transit or transit place that is formed will be a social space that is used without differentiating social status. One of them is the transit facility located in Rawa Buaya. The Rawa Buaya transit facility is designed using qualitative data collection techniques and cross programming in design planning. The method used produces three main programs that emphasize service, entertainment and commercial functions, which shape social interaction, gathering space, and space for interaction between Rawa Buaya bus terminal communities.

The spatial and economic growth of cities and regions is heavily influenced by transportation. A better knowledge of public transportation will help to clarify the positions of the public and private sectors, as well as recognize the critical government position. To study the problems and issues of the public transportation system, Qasimabad, Hyderabad is selected as a study area due to some serious issues of public transportation. Personal observations and questionnaires were used to gather data from the research area. And for analyzing the data SPSS and MS Excel are used. The results reveal that the existing public transportation system is not meeting the needs of residents. Hence use of private transportation is high and causing environmental and traffic jam problems. As 68% of respondents use a motorbike for recreational purposes, 64% of respondents are not using public transport due to safety factors. In general, 54% of respondents were not satisfied with the service of public transport. As people are willing to use public transport but due to some factors such as safety, they are not using public transport so it is suggested that both vehicles and roads must be safe for users. This study aims to study the existing scenario of public transportation in terms of services and facilities, and people’s perception about public transportation. So it is concluded that people are tending to use public transport but under some certain conditions (factors preventing the use of public transport), if these concerns are solved then public transport system will become more efficient.
