Plants are important elements of open-green areas in the urban space and perception of an environment. Some plants have seasonal colour changes. The identification of these changes and clarification of the effects on people are quite important for landscape architecture. Seasonal changes of plants in some open-green areas in Düzce were examined in order to explain how it affects people regarding changes in perceptional preferences. Delphi Method was used on photographs as a mean of identification of the visual effects of the plant compositions. The plant composition photographs, which had been examined before, were used in the questionnaire to 370 student groups. As a result, the difference was evaluated between the perceiving of different plant compositions. Summer was the most affecting season having the design value and visual quality. Besides, evergreen plants had a positive effect on design power and visual quality of compositions. Furthermore, as another important result, it was found out that socio-economic levels of the people had some important effects on visual preferences. In this study, perceptional differences of the participants on seasonal changes of the plants were identified. Moreover, the form and the texture were evaluated for identifying perceptional effects. Santrauka Reikšmingas urbanizuotos teritorijos elementas yra želdynų augalija. Kai kurios augalų rūšys kintant sezonui keičia spalvas. Suvokiant šių pokyčių poveikį žmogui, svarbu tai pritaikyti kuriant kraštovaizdžio architektūrą. Sezoninių augalijos pokyčių poveikiui tirti pasirinkta ãtviros Düzce apylinkių vietos. Vizualiam augalijos poveikiui nustatyti taikytas Delphi fotonuotraukų metodas.

Sediment control structures such as check dams, groundsills, and revetments are commonly used to balance sediment transport. In this study, we investigated the visual quality of sediment control structures that have been installed to manage mountain streams by analyzing images from the Soil and Water Conservation Bureau (SWCB) of Taiwan. We used visual preference (P) as an indicator in the evaluation of visual quality and considered two softscape elements and four cognitive factors associated with P. The two softscape elements were the visible body of water and vegetation, which were represented by the percentage of visible water (WR) and the percentage of visible greenery (GR). We considered four cognitive factors: naturalness, harmony, vividness, and closeness. Using a questionnaire-based survey, we asked 212 experts and laypeople to indicate their visual preferences (P) for the images. We examined the associations of the P ratings with cognitive factors and softscape elements and then established an empirical relationship between P and the cognitive factors using multiple regression analysis. The results showed that the subjects’ visual preferences were strongly affected by the harmony factor; the subjects preferred the proportion of softscape elements to be 30% WR and 40% GR for optimal harmony, naturalness, and visual quality of the sediment control structures. We discuss the visual indicators, visual aesthetic experiences, and applications of the empirical relationship, and offer insights into the study’s implications.

The least-significant-bit based approach is a popular type of stenographic algorithms in the spatial domain. However, we find that in most existing approaches, the choice of embedding positions within a cover audio mainly depends on a pseudorandom number generator without considering the relationship between the audio content itself and the size of the secret message. In this paper, we expand the least significant bit matching revisited audio stegnography and propose an edge adaptive scheme which can select the embedding regions according to the size of secret message and the difference between two consecutive pixels in the cover audio. For lower embedding rates, only sharper edge regions are used while keeping the other smoother regions as they are. When the embedding rate increases, more edge regions can be released adaptively for data hiding by adjusting just a few parameters. New scheme can enhance the security significantly compared with typical least significant bit-based approaches as well as their edge adaptive ones, such as pixel-value-differencing-based approaches, while preserving higher visual quality of stegno audios at the same time.

Bandung Wetan is known to have many distros and clothing stores which indirectly give birth to many designers or clothes makers, with many designers or clothes makers who need a place where they can look for ideas and exchange ideas, therefore many cafes or restaurants are built. can search for ideas or exchange ideas. Although there are a variety of cafes and restaurants available in the Bandung area, most of the cafes and restaurants require expenses by visitors, which makes it inaccessible to all members of the community or visitors from outside the city itself, in connection with this need a place where clothing makers, designers and communities can gather or exchange ideas no matter their age and economy, they can gather and talk without social gaps. This third place will help the development of the needs of the city community and also the city's economy in the next few years, by increasing the creativity generated by the many places where they can look for inspiration and ideas. The people of the Bandung Wetan area, especially the Cihapit Village will increase the quality of work, study, and products produced by the community. Third place or third place is one of the answers to the approach of urban development itself in an effort to increase the value of an area caused by changes in functions and changes in the pattern of urban space itself.

The correlation between the psycho-physical well-being of citizens and the provision of green areas has been one of the cornerstones of urban planning since its inception, as its constant commitment to adapt cities and territories to emerging challenges. The spread of SARS-Cov-2 has changed the relationship between citizens and urban space. The public space, has been limited and banned, confining citizens within their private space and the psycho-physical well-being of citizens depended only on the quality of the domestic space. The pandemic represents a moment of reflection and research for the disciplines that deal with the quality of life of citizens. The pandemic crisis may be an opportunity to rethink the role and importance of the provision of public space, in particular urban green areas, their distribution and effective accessibility. The contribution aims to rethink urban models capable of responding to the challenges of the post-pandemic city

Recently, image compression using adaptive block truncation coding based on edge quantization (ABTC-EQ) was proposed by Mathews and Nair. Their approach deals with an image for two types of blocks, edge blocks and non-edge blocks. Different from using the bi-clustering approach on all blocks in previous block truncation coding (BTC)-like schemes, ABTC-EQ adopts tri-clustering to tackle edge blocks. The compression ratio of ABTC-EQ is reduced, but the visual quality of the reconstructed image is significantly improved. However, it is observed that ABTC-EQ uses 2 bits to represent the index of three clusters in a block. We can only use an average of 5/3 bits by variable-length code to represent the index of each cluster. On the other hand, there are two observations on the quantization levels in a block. The first observation is that the difference between the two quantization values is often smaller than the quantization values themselves. The second observation is that more clusters may enhance the visual quality of the reconstructed image. Based on variable-length coding and the above observations, we design variants of ABTC-EQ to enhance the visual quality of the reconstructed image and compression ratio.

As the urban regeneration process is mostly focused on upgrading the existing urban spaces by improving their physical qualities in order to be more attractive to people, and to generate more life or community life, the use of the concept of public space in this process is very adequate. At this extend, by noticing the difference between urban and public space, an important issue might be raised: whether public space concept can be used as an effective tool for urban regeneration process of existing residential areas? Elaborating briefly the urban regeneration as a process of improving of the qualities of life of urban space in order to meet the social objectives of the people, this paper focuses on a discussion on the role of public space concept as a tool in this process, arguing that are the public life qualities of urban spaces that matters. Based on this approach, this paper takes as case study the residential area in Tirana, built in the early ‘50s, experiencing, recently, some loss of urban space qualities because of new buildings and car invasion, keeping still its traditional urban identity. Analyzing the exiting urban spaces by using the criteria of public space it argues that converting urban spaces to public spaces by improving their public qualities, increasing their accessibility to pedestrians, releasing them from car use, introducing services that generate public interaction and cohesion, could be seen as a crucial tool of urban regeneration process, creating more sociable and enjoyable environment, leading to more sustainable or long term solution. The paper concludes that public space concept, in its core, should be seen as an important and effective designing tool for restructuring the urban space in the urban regeneration process.
