The utilization of recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) can reduce the environmental impact and decreases the cost of concrete. In this study, a comprehensive assessment of self-consolidating concrete (SCC) using RCA as partial or total replacement of coarse aggregate was conducted. Recycled concrete aggregate self-consolidating concrete (RCA-SCC) mixtures with varied water-to-cement (W/C) ratios (0.28–0.46), sand-to-aggregate (S/A) ratios (48–52%), fly ash (FA) contents (20–40%), RCA replacement ratios (0–100%), and water reducer contents (0–1.5%) were designed and tested. 5 groups of the RCA-SCC columns with different W/C and replacement ratios of RCA were also investigated. The slump flow, the J-ring flow and the cubic compressive strength, and the compressive behaviors of the RCA-SCC columns were studied. Results indicated that W/C ratio was the dominant parameter in RCA-SCC mixture, and the failure modes of the RCA-SCC columns were similar to those of the conventional concrete columns. Based on the experimental results, the mechanical performance of RCA-SCC columns was evaluated quantitatively, and a stress–strain relation model for predicting the axial compressive behavior of RCA-SCC column was proposed. This study will provide a reference for the engineering application of the environment-friendly SCC using RCA that are derived from tested or returned concretes with better performance.

Self-Consolidating Concrete (SCC) is developing class of concrete materials that offers great potential to improved ease of positioning and cost through reduced time and labor. Generally, amount of Construction and Demolition Wastes (C&DW) are increased daily. Therefore, it is beneficial to final usage of coarse recycled concrete aggregate that produced from crushed concrete waste as a new construction solution. Researchers have found that waste materials have unique properties that could help in improving the quality of self-consolidating concrete produced. Therefore, reuse of RCA generated as the supplemental material for the replacement of aggregate are significant in reducing the environmental impact. This research was focused on the strength characteristic and the chloride permeability level of SCC containing RCA. The influence of RCA content in the range from 0% to 100% of Natural Aggregate (NA) to the strength characteristic and the chloride permeability level of SCC was identified and compared with SCC containing normal mixes. In this research, three (3) series of concrete specimens were cast with different water cement ratios (0.53, 0.49 and 0.45). The concrete specimens were subjected to strength at the age of 3, 7, 14, 21, 28, 56 and 90 days and durability at the age of 28, 56 and 90 days. The result shown that the compressive strength and chloride permeability of SCC containing 100% RCA replacement give better performance than the 0% RCA replacement. Based on the finding, SCC containing 100% RCA replacement can be categorized similar to conventional concrete hence it can be utilized for construction purposes. RCA can also acts as an alternative replacement in concrete for replacing the NA. A report about the current industry standards of technological, economic and legal development for the recycling and reuse of civil construction waste (CCW). The use of CCW, such as recycled aggregate inserted into concrete, is still in its initial stages in Brazil [. This paper's main objective was to evaluate the quality of concrete produced using different amounts, or fractions, of recycled concrete aggregate RCA from the residues of demolition wastes RDW from UFRJ's university hospital, located at its Rio de Janeiro campus. These residues had the dimensions of crushed gravel, and were inserted into a mix of conventional concrete for making interlocking concrete paving, based on the characterization of the recycled aggregates and mechanical tests, carried out on laboratory produced cylindrical specimens of concrete, contributing to the increase in the recycling of cement and concrete in Brazil.

Currently, the emphasis is put on sustainable buildings; simultaneously, the emphasis is put on energy efficiency in buildings, with respect to this fact of necessity to test thermal properties of new building materials. This article deals with the thermal properties of concrete containing recycled concrete aggregate. Four types of recycled concrete aggregate were used for the production of the concrete. For the testing of concrete, a total of ten concrete mixtures were made, one of which was a reference mixture and the natural aggregate was replaced by recycled aggregate of varying ratio in the other mixtures. Finally, it is possible to say that according to the thermal properties of the recycled aggregate concrete is possible to be used in the same applications as conventional concrete.

As the amount of waste concrete has been increased and recycling technique advances, this study investigates the applicability of recycled concrete aggregate for concrete structures. In addition fly ash, the industrial by-product, was considered in the concrete mix. Experimental program performed compressive strength and chloride penetration resistance tests with various replacement levels of fine recycled concrete aggregate and fly ash. In most case, the design strength, 40MPa, was obtained. It was known that the replacement of the fine aggregate with fine RCA may have greater influence on the strength development rather than the addition of fly ash. It is recommended that when complete coarse aggregate is replaced with RCA the fine RCA replacement should be less than 60%. The recycled aggregate concrete can achieve sufficient resistance to the chloride ion penetration and the resistance can be more effectively controlled by adding fly ash. It I finally conclude that the recycled concrete aggregate can be successfully used in the construction field and the recycling rate of waste concrete and flay ash should be increased without causing significant engineering problems.

The main objective of this work is to evaluate the properties of hot asphalt mixtures that have been manufactured with different recycled concrete aggregate (RCA) percentages (0%, 20%, 40%, 60% and 80% of the fraction 5–13 mm) and asphalt (4%, 4.5% and 5%). Dense asphalt mixtures were made; partially replacing the natural aggregate (NA) fraction between 5 and 13 mm. Marshall specimens were manufactured to determine the main properties of the asphalt concrete (AC) in terms of density, voids, stability and deformation. Additionally, the optimal asphalt content (OAC) was determined, and measured the water sensibility, the stiffness modulus and the permanent deformation. The results corroborate the potential for using these sources of construction and demolition waste (CDW) as a RCA in asphalt concrete and show that the hot asphalt mixtures with up to 40% substitution of natural aggregate by recycled aggregate in the fraction 5–13 mm present good behavior.

In order to better understand the recycled concrete aggregate, it is essential to investigate the different mixture ratio in it. For determining the better mixture ratio of recycled concrete aggregate, the experimental investigation was conducted by making use of recycled concrete aggregate of different ratio instead of small stones in concrete, while maintaining the proportion of other raw materials of concrete unchanged. Its mechanical properties were also investigated. It is found that the better materials proportion of recycled concrete is that sand: recycled aggregate: water= 1: 1.8 : 2.1: 0.55.

In the article the possibility of utilization of two waste materials: Recycled Concrete Aggregate (RCA) fraction 0-2 mm and Class C fly ash (from lignite burning power plant) in Controlled Low-Strength Material (CLSM) was presented. The research covered twelve different mixtures. The mixtures differed in cement and fly ash content as well as content of the fine aggregate. As a fine aggregate 0-2 mm fraction of RCA or river sand were used. The results showed that use the fine fraction RCA instead of sand does not cause technological problems and allows, depending on the needs, obtaining the material with different properties and a wide range of applications.

Recycled aggregates are those crushed cement concrete or asphalt pavement which comes out from the construction debris which is reused in construction. They are made from the reprocessing of materials which have been used in previous constructions. This paper discusses about the study of properties of recycled aggregates from the sources which has already been published. The results are that 100% replacement of natural aggregate by recycled concrete aggregate effect on chloride ions resistance, it plays negative effects on durability of recycled concrete aggregates, and addition of fiber in recycled aggregate concrete mixture gave more effective in the performance of concrete. On experimental study of recycled aggregate, compressive, flexural and split tensile strength of the recycled aggregate were found to be lower than that of the natural aggregate. Use of recycled aggregate in a new concrete production is still limited. Recommendation of introduction of recycled aggregates standard is required for the materials to be used successfully in future. Gaps in literature reviews are also included in this paper.
