Purpose: This study aimed to examine the differences in scores of the Attitude to Patient Safety Questionnaire (APSQ) by medical students before and after the outbreak of COVID-19.Methods: In total, 97 and 118 medical students completed patient safety courses at Yonsei University Wonju College of Medicine in 2019 and 2020, respectively. In 2019, the course was conducted using traditional learning in the classroom, whereas, in 2020, most of the classes were conducted using non-face-to-face learning methods.Results: In 2019 and 2020, 49 and 53 students responded to the APSQ. Only one item “Patients are not really aware of how safe their care is” had a lower score in 2020 than in 2019.Conclusion: Although the total APSQ score did not differ between 2019 and 2020, the students in 2020 might have a poor understanding of the role of patients in medical errors.

Medical students generally express a low interest in Occupational Medicine. We aimed to assess the attitudes and changes in attitudes of students towards this area after completing a course on Occupational Medicine in two Medical Universities in Spain (Zaragoza and Castilla-La Mancha). The teaching method included blended learning as a model that used online virtual patient platforms (CASUS) and/or EMUTOM, as well as traditional methods such as face-to-face teaching. A total of 526 students (98 of whom attended the University of Castilla-La Mancha) participated during three academic years (2015–2016, 2016–2017 and 2017–2018). The validation of the questionnaire was carried out using reliability, exploratory and confirmatory factor analysis. For the analysis of internal consistency and discrimination, Cronbach’s alpha was used. The adequacy of the factor analysis was measured by means of KMO, and a correlation matrix was examined by means of Bartlett’s test of sphericity. To identify differences between students before and after completing the course, the Mann–Whitney U-test for independent samples was used. Our results show that despite a negative or neutral attitude towards Occupational Medicine, the acquisition of competences and skills in this area and their training were recognized as fundamental for their future professional performance as doctors in any specialty.

As one of the key infrastructures within web-based learning, courseware is adopted by schools and universities to enable a systematic learning delivery and education management. Students in both traditional face-to-face learning and online courses can benefit from this technology. The wide range of courseware platforms are supporting course needs by offering great flexibility in information delivery, communication services, and collaboration. This chapter looks at the role of web-based courseware in tertiary education, using MyLO (My Learning Online) as an example. It reveals that courseware systems like MyLO have a great potential in facilitating collaborations and enhance interactions among lecturers and students. To achieve this, potential efforts from all perspective are required; including students, lecturers and faculties.

This chapter presents some creative pedagogical strategies used during the distance or remote learning period due to the COVID-19 pandemic from March to May 2020. The chapter explores the use of coding in a transdisciplinary way. Strategies for online tools and their specific use both in remote and in face-to-face learning are presented. The role of hands-on learning as a process of learning-by-doing and how to involve pupils using the methods of a flipped classroom are also presented. The chapter concludes with the importance of games to keep the class group united and cohesive in order to develop a healthy sense of competitiveness and collaboration among the pupils.

The study explores to what extent new communication technologies have played a revolutionizing role in the ways in which news reporters acquire information. Reporters reconstructed how they used different technologies in order to obtain each of their sampled items, both before and after the introduction of new communication technologies into the Israeli daily press. Changes appear to be minor. Reporters continued to contact sources directly, negotiate their versions orally, and use technologies to replace physical presence at news scenes and face-to-face interviews. This relative stability might reflect the fact that, in the interplay between forces for continuity (represented by the ongoing patterns of newswork) and forces for change (suggested by the new technologies), the role of the former has been dominant.

Abstract Background In undergraduate medical education, patient safety concepts and understanding of medical errors are under-represented. This problem is more evident in low-income settings. The aim of this study was to explore undergraduate medical students’ attitudes towards patient safety in the low-income setting of the Gaza Strip. Methods A cross-sectional, descriptive study included medical students of the two medical schools in the Gaza Strip with 338 medical students completing the Attitudes to Patient Safety Questionnaire-IV (APSQ-IV), which examines patient attitudes in 29 items over 10 domains. Results are represented as means ± standard deviations for each item and domain as well as percentage of positive responses to specific items. Results Medical students reported slightly positive patient safety attitudes (4.7 ± 0.5 of 7) with the most positive attitudes in the domains of situational awareness, importance of patient safety in the curriculum, error inevitability and team functioning. While no negative attitudes were reported, neutral attitudes were found in the domains of professional incompetence as a cause of error and error reporting confidence. Study year and gender had no significant association with patient safety attitudes, except for disclosure responsibility, where male students displayed significantly more positive attitudes. The study university was significantly associated with three of the 10 examined domains, all of which involved understanding of medical errors, for which students of University 2 (who had undergone limited patient safety training) held significantly more positive attitudes, compared with students of University 1 (who did not have structured patient safety training). Conclusion Medical students’ patient safety attitudes were very similar among students from both universities, except for understanding of medical error, for which students, who had received structured training in this topic, displayed significantly more positive attitudes. This underlines the power of the ‘hidden curriculum’, where students adjust to prevalent cultures in local hospitals, while they do their clinical training. Furthermore, it highlights the need for a systematic inclusion of patient safety content in local undergraduate curricula.

Covid-19 virus has an impact on various field, one which is in education field, so that the Indonesian Goverment made a policy of replacing face to face learning with distance learning or known as online learning. In online learning, parents have a double role as a parent and as a teacher for children in accompany childrend in online learning during Covid-19 pandemic. Lack of understanding of the importance of accompanying children to learn during online learning causes parents to pay less attention to their role in accompanying children during online learning. The aim of this reasearch is to know the role of parents to accompanying children in online learning during Covid-19 pandemic. The research use qualitative methods with case study research type. This research was conducted in Temulus Village, Mejobo District, Kudus Regency, with 5 parents and 5 children who attend 1 Temulus Elemantary School, who living around in environment researcher. Data collection techiques in this research was observation, interviews and documentation.  This research use descriptive qualitative data analysis with triangulation methods as a validity test. The step of data analysis is reduction, presentation of data, and conclusions. The result of the role of parents in online learning during th eCovid-19 pandemic is a.) the role  as caregivers and educators; b) the role as mentors; c) the role as motivators; d) the role as facilitators. Therefore, parents should provide time and attention in accompanying children to leaen during online learning.

Abstract Background COVID-19 has profoundly impacted the healthcare education environment and telemedicine has been used to augment face-to-face learning and support social-distancing. There is little evidence which examines how patients feel about participating in teaching with this technology. Method A prospective survey of 229 surgical inpatients/outpatients was conducted at a university hospital between August–September 2020. The survey consisted of 31 questions (7-point Likert scales, quantitative items, and free-text answers) to explore: general attitudes towards teaching, attitudes towards COVID-19, perceptions of face-to-face teaching and perceptions of telemedicine teaching. Relationships between demographics and areas of interest were analysed qualitatively and quantitatively. Results Patients reported a positive attitude towards both face-to-face (mean 5.5 [1.1SD]) and telemedicine teaching (5.4 [1.2]) however there was a preference for the face-to-face approach (mean difference [MD]=.16, p = 0.14). Face-to-face teaching was found to be less bothersome (MD=.32, p=.002) and more rewarding (MD.33, p<.001). Older patients were more likely to report both teaching techniques as embarrassing (face-to-face r=.16, p=.048; telemedicine r=.15, p=.036) or as an infringement on their privacy (face-to-face r=.13, p=.048; telemedicine r=.17, p=.017). Qualitative analyses revealed four themes of the patient experience: apprentice role of students, communication skills, transient need for telemedicine during COVID-19 and privacy concerns. Conclusions Despite reporting a favourable impression of telemedicine teaching, patients prefer traditional face-to-face styles as they find telemedicine more bothersome and less rewarding. Educators should take this into consideration during planning of teaching during the pandemic.

Patient safety is a right and it raises particular issues in the context of cross-border care. Patients should be able to have trust and confidence in the healthcare structure as a whole; they must be protected from the harm caused by poorly functioning health systems, medical errors and adverse events. This paper addresses the state of cross-border healthcare in the European Union, the state of patient safety, the question of quality assurance and the role of accreditation as a risk based approach.

The author's interest is to investigate the lecturers' attitudes towards online teaching in the learning process which is the teaching for the 21st-century learning process and to seek the relationship among lecturers’ attitudes, online teaching and learning process. The problem is many lecturers in Tangerang City area are afraid of using technology and some of them are stuttered and technology illiterate. The lecturers still prefer face to face learning in the class more campuses have provided Moodle as a platform of learning. With the circumstances of Coronavirus, the learning has moved to e-learning. In this research, the author used a mixed-method and the number of respondents was 104, data collection was obtained from questionnaires sent via Google Form and distributed through WhatsApp to the lecturers in Tangerang City area. Data is translated into frequency and regression linear. The result showed that 73 lecturers change them toward e-learning and remain 27 lectures had difficulty in teaching online and preferred traditional learning. Keywords: Lecturers' attitudes, online teaching, and learning process
