<p><strong>Emotional intelligence (EI) is related to emotions and emotional information. It has attracted great attention among researchers and Human Resource (HR) practitioners because of its contribution towards leaders and employees and its key role for the organizational effectiveness and excellence. Here, I describe the models of EI and review the findings about the association between EI, leaders and employees to point out the positive correlations. I conclude by signalizing thoughts for future research on the role of EI in organizations.</strong></p>

Abstract. This study investigated the mediating role of coping humor in the relationship between emotional intelligence (EI) and job satisfaction. Participants were 398 primary school teachers in China, who completed the Wong Law Emotional Intelligence Scale, Coping Humor Scale, and Overall Job Satisfaction Scale. Results showed that coping humor was a significant mediator between EI and job satisfaction. A further examination revealed, however, that coping humor only mediated two sub-dimensions of EI (use of emotion and regulation of emotion) and job satisfaction. Implications for future research and limitations of the study are discussed.

This research is a human resource analysis study, especially studies on employees of Warung SS Purwokerto. The purpose of this study is to analyze the impact of Emotional Intelligence on Job Outcomes and its impact to Turnover Intention on Warung SS Purwokerto. The samples in this study were 86 people who had been selected using purposive sampling. This study uses the analysis method of Simple Regression Analysis and Causal Step Method. Hypotheses indicate that emotional intelligence directly affects job satisfaction, organizational commitment and Turnover Intention, then job satisfaction and organizational commitment affects Turnover Intention, next  job satisfaction and organizational commitment affect the effect of emotional intelligence on Turnover Intention. The implications of this study indicate that Turnover Intention affected by emotional intelligence, job satisfaction and organizational commitment. This finding will contribute to future research as an additional reference regarding the development of discussions and studies on human resource management.

Emotional Intelligence (EI), defined as the “capacity to process emotional information accurately and efficiently” (Mayer & Salovey, 1995), has recently become one of the most discussed issues in different fields. There has been a great deal of discussion both for and against its potential role in education. In fact, it is argued that there is a significant relationship between EI and success in various aspects of life, including life satisfaction, mental health, self-efficacy, psychological well-being, occupational success, and academic achievement. However, there is a gap with regard to EI and its potential role and application in various fields and contexts. The intention of this paper is to stimulate debate and encourage further research about EI through discussing its definitions, constituents, theoretical framework, measurements, and the criticisms leveled against its alleged unfulfilled promise. Furthermore, we elaborate thoroughly on the directions for future research in this field of study.

The essence and features of the concept of emotional intelligence are considered. The essence of emotional intelligence is defined as a set of cognitive abilities to identify, understand and manage emotions, as well as knowledge, skills and abilities, operations and strategies of intellectual activity related to the processing and transformation of emotional information. The characteristics and prerequisites for the formation of emotional intelligence are identified. The forms and levels of development of emotional intelligence in ontogenesis are analyzed. The main advantages of the formation and development of emotional intelligence for successful employment and personal development are highlighted. A survey of students on awareness in the field of emotional intelligence and assessment of its level, which showed that 24.3% of respondents are interested in this topic in depth, 60% know only general information, and 15.7% first learned about this indicator. Despite the fact that not everyone understands the essence of emotional intelligence, almost half of respondents believe that the level of emotional intelligence is significant. A quarter of students believe that IQ is more important, and another 25% found it difficult to answer this question. The basic methods of development of emotional intelligence are offered. The role of emotional intelligence for managers and business is defined. It is determined that in today's business environment, authoritarian managers are much less likely to succeed in the long run than those who use a democratic style of government. If a manager wants to succeed in the business world now and in the future, it is important to understand the role of emotional intelligence in business today. The possibility of increasing the efficiency of management activities of the specialist through the development of emotional intelligence, which provides prospects for innovative development of the organization (enterprise).

This chapter discussed issues of injustice as often affecting the emotional, and in some cases, the physical well-being of a person. In recent years, researchers have begun to explore the role of Emotional Intelligence (EI) in creating awareness when it comes to social justice issues related to areas such as racism, sexism, heterosexism, etc. The purpose of this chapter is twofold: First, to concentrate on the area of social justice issues to find out what the literature has explored in terms of the role Emotional Intelligence (EI) might play when it comes to dealing with social oppression, and second, to advocate emotional intelligence traits that can be successfully used to cope with social oppression. We reviewed the literature as a way to deepen our understanding of how to foster “socially conscious” practices within the workplace. The chapter has implications for Human Resource Development (HRD) practitioners to remind them of the responsibility they have to encourage and welcome studies and practices addressing critical aspects such as social justice issues as a way to help ensure a productive and safe workplace. Through this review of the literature, we found that emotional intelligence traits, if practiced responsibly, can make society a better place for everyone to live and work in.

PurposeSHRM is facing potential theoretical challenge in terms of unveiling “black box” mystery lies between logical and strategic application of SHRM and its impact on organizational effectiveness. To explore the gap between HR contribution and competitive advantage gained by the organizations, a viable mediating framework is needed in SHRM.Design/Methodology/ApproachIn the awake of rising world interest in SHRM, this paper aimed to analyze the scholarly works on SHRM those offer to stimulate mechanisms and configurations through which SHRM can serve to improve organizational effectiveness. Outcome of the debate is likely to use in future empirical research.FindingsOrganization needs to distinguish itself in performance and strategy from the other organizations. Improvement in resources helps the organizations to gain competitive advantage. Resource-based view of the firm used as a lens for this study explains that difference in business’s performance is dependent upon resources owned by the business. This study attempts to offer a framework that proposes a strategy to distinguish itself in performance. HRM management set up in an organization gets influenced by HR system, and practices prevalent in the organization, workforce skills, employee level of competence, employee commitment and engagement. An organization cannot remain aloof from the repercussions of extraneous conditions such as political, economic, sociological, technological, legal and environment.Limitations and Future Research DirectionsThis conceptual study is limited to state and status of strategic HRM activities in Pakistani organizations. Future study may conduct empirical research by including employee perceptions as unit of analysis at the province level.Practical Implications The study is of great value to Pakistani organizations to excel on organizational effectiveness to optimize financial performance. <p>This study investigates the moderating role of electronic human resource management (e-HRM) in the relationship between human resource management ambidexterity (HRMA) and talent management (TM) using data collected from 430 managers working in 10 international banks in Egypt. e-HRM was found to be an important moderator of the relationship between HRMA and TM. The more dependence on e-HRM in executing human resource policies in banks, the greater influence of HRMA on TM. The results referred also a positive and significant influence of both HRMA and e-HRM on TM. This study concludes by discussing managerial implications and the limitations should be addressed in future research.</p>

PurposeThe purpose of this article is to recognize emotional intelligence (EI) as a specific emotional competency possessed by entrepreneurs that facilitates their coping with stressors that arise in their day-to-day work. Highlighting the problem-focused and emotion-focused coping strategies employed by entrepreneurs, the paper establishes that EI in entrepreneurs enables the onset of acceptance of the existence of a stressful situation and that of optimism that a stressful situation can be solved.Design/methodology/approachThe paper reviews literature on the topics related to links between EI, entrepreneurial behaviors and entrepreneurial coping. Subsequently, acceptance-avoidance motivation theory is used to posit that entrepreneurs' EI serves as an antecedent that (1) guides the selection of their coping strategies through onset of optimism and acceptance of stressful situation, (2) assists in perceiving those situations as either controllable or uncontrollable and (3) shapes the actual process through which entrepreneurs cope.FindingsThe proposed conceptual model asserts that entrepreneurs' EI as reflected in their abilities to perceive, use, understand and regulate emotions is key to their coping. EI in entrepreneurs assists them in being optimistic about solving a stressful situation and accepting of such situations as well. Thereafter, selection of a problem-focused or emotion-focused coping strategy or both ensues.Originality/valueThe current work offers a conceptual model that highlights the role of entrepreneurs' EI in coping, integrates both the cognitive and affective components of coping and suggests a variety of avenues for future research. This model extends models of coping that categorize coping types to specify the process thought to be involved. Understanding the role of emotional intelligence in coping with stress by entrepreneurs has theoretical and practical implications which are discussed as well.

Interest in the role Emotional Intelligence in the workplace has increased in recent years, with greater emphasis on the benefits of understanding and utilizing emotions for managing people at work. In the contemporary scenario, the role of emotional intelligence competencies as predictors of leadership is being researched in order to leverage this information for increased leader effectiveness and performance. The present study identifies the congruence between various aspects of emotional intelligence and essential leadership competencies. It also identifies the role of Emotional intelligence in the effectiveness of Transformational Leaders.
