The paper analyzed the global growth and development of flipped classroom research productivity in terms of publication output as reflected in SCI/SSCI for the period 2000-2015. Publication types and languages, characteristics of articles outputs, countries, subject categories and journals, and the frequency of keywords were analyzed using bibliometric methods. There are 149 articles in 78 journals listed in 41 SCI/SSCI subject categories. A sharp growth trend of publication output was observed during 2011-2015. USA played a predominant role in flipped classroom research. Education educational research, chemistry and medical were the top 3 categories and “active learning” and “blended learning” recent major topics of flipped classroom research during the past 16 years. The results could help researchers understand the characteristics of research output and search hot spots of flipped education field.

The study maps the research output from University of Kashmir, one of the premier higher education institutes of Jammu&Kashmir state, India. Elseviers SciVerse Scopus one of the leading indexing abstracting services was queried for a period of 1963- February 2015 using the affiliation search feature for University of Kashmir. The works of the authors affiliated with University of Kashmir have been analyzed. Statistical analysis of the retrieved data was performed. The publication output from University of Kashmir has shown a promising growth expect for some years in 1990s which can be attributed to the political instability in the state. The highest contributing authors are from Science disciplines with authors from Chemistry, Botany, Electronics, Biochemistry, and Centre of Research for Development departments having a higher rate of h-Index. Majority of papers are published in Indian sources followed by the sources from US, Germany and China. Majority of the authors are affiliated with University of Kashmir followed by Indian Institute of Integrative Medicine (Earlier Regional Research Laboratory, Sanat Nagar), Sher-i-Kashmir Institute of Medical Sciences (SKIMS) and Aligarh Muslim University. Articles have remained a prime document type for publishing by the authors from University of Kashmir followed by conference proceedings and review articles. Agricultural and Biological Sciences outscore other disciplines followed by Biochemistry, Genetics & Molecular Biology and Medicine. Future emphasis on joint research, international collaboration, and publishing in indexed journals is needed.

The flipped classroom offers a new approach to student-centred teaching and learning by moving the lecture out of the classroom. Research on the topic reveals that the flexibility of viewing the recorded lectures at a time and speed that is convenient to the student is what students appreciate mostly in the flipped classroom. This article examines the viewing pattern of students regarding recorded lectures in a course that has been flipped. The findings reveal a decline in the number of students who view the recordings over the duration of the course semester. Furthermore, the findings support earlier research results revealing that women and older students rely more on recorded lectures than other students. In addition, the study shows that there is a positive correlation between viewing the recorded material and the final grade of students in the course. It is thus surmised that even if in-class activity is very important for the flipped classroom to work, the recordings do have additional value, which is reflected by higher final course grades for students who view them. The flexibility of viewing recordings more than once and at the most relevant and convenient time seems to increase students’ understanding, and is regarded an important asset of flipped classroom teaching.

Despite the buzz around the flipped or inverted classroom as a new trend in educational practice and research, there is a limited number of studies on its effectiveness in English as a Second Language (ESL) teaching. This paper aims at contributing to the field of flipped classroom research by examining and analyzing the outcomes of the experiment conducted at the Tomsk Polytechnic University within the course of English for Engineering. Outlining several challenges, the authors conclude on the significant benefits of the flipped classroom model in ESL teaching including an increase in students’ overall performance on the course, enhancement of students’ motivation and improvement of their autonomous learning skills.

The aim of this article is to examine the bibliometric analysis of global publication output on coronavirus, as covered in Web of Science during the period from 2000 to 2019. A total of 10,861 documents were found during a 20-year period spanning from 2000 to 2019 published in the ISI Web of Science. The study analyses annual productivity, most productive source titles, prolific countries, eminent institutions, linguistic analysis and productivity of authors and their contribution in the subject area. The findings reveal that the most productive year of publication was 2004 that included 782 publications with the majority published in the Journal of Virology. The result further indicates that the USA, China and Germany are the most productive countries in the field of Coronavirus research output. In terms of institutional output, University of Hong Kong emerged as the most productive institution; Yuen KY from Hong Kong is the most prolific author. In the subject category type, the most prominent subject field is Virology, Infectious Disease and Veterinary Science. The findings of the study are limited to the data harvested from ‘Web of Science’. This study is of immense relevance to researchers and academicians who are searching for answers to this pandemic. This will provide insights to academicians to collaborate with other researchers based on the quality of the research produced by other countries and institutes. The study is useful for researchers, immunologists and epidemiologists who are interested in the field of Coronavirus and serves as a base for future research.

Purpose This paper aims to analyze the trends and contents of flipped classroom research based on 48 selected empirical articles published during 2017 and 2018. Design/methodology/approach The inductive content analysis was used as a methodology to investigate the content of flipped classroom research, including subject-specific areas, methodological approaches, technology tools or platforms, the most frequently used trending searches, countries of research, positive impacts and challenges. Findings The results of the analysis were interpreted using descriptive analysis, percentages and frequencies. This analysis found that various subjects were implemented in flipped classroom learning, and some technological tools were also used to enhance teaching and learning. Analysis of the impact revealed that the flipped classroom yielded positive learning outcomes on students’ learning activities such as learning motivation and engagement, social interaction and self-directed learning skills. Meanwhile, the most significant challenges encountered by the instructor were the lack of students’ motivation to watch pre-recorded video lectures or to study the contents outside of the class time. Originality/value The findings suggest that the flipped classroom concept might be effective in promoting twenty-first-century learning skills and developing the technology and information literacy competency based on national standards.

Different from traditional discourse analysis, multimodal discourse analysis (MDA), a systematic analysis of different semiotic modes, utilizing language, images, sounds in a discourse, emphasizes the coordination of both dynamic and static semiotic resources. This study presents the status quo and development trend of the research field through an objective, systematic, and comprehensive review of relevant publications available from the Web of Science Core Collection. Analysis techniques including a descriptive statistical method and a bibliometric method are used. The study quantitatively analyzes the publications in terms of general characteristics, geographical distribution, high-cited representatives, and topic discovery and distribution to illustrate the development and trend of MDA. The research findings are as follows: (1) In the past 10 years or so, international MDA research has presented a significant growth trend, with flourishing research output, interest and diversification of presented subjects; (2) New topics are constantly emerging, with research topics mainly focusing on the development of visual grammar, gesture, digital technologies, conference presentations, metonymy and metaphor, etc.; (3) Research focuses mainly on multimodality, semiotics, conversation analysis, critical discourse analysis etc.; (4) The article also listed a series of important and highly influential literature, countries, journals and authors on MDA during different periods. It is hoped that this paper can provide a reference for the further study of MDA.

<span>CCS Haryana Agricultural University (CCSHAU) is among the top ten agricultural universities of India according to ICAR ranking 2016-17. The present study has been undertaken to find out the publication trends in this university during 2001-2015. The study mainly focus on year-wise research output, major subject categories, national and international collaborations, top journals for publications, most prolific authors, citations pattern and highly cited papers of CCSHAU. The results indicate that among the top ten agricultural universities of India, CCSHAU stands at fourth position in terms of publications and sixth position in terms of citations. It has collaborated with many institutions at national and international level in its research publications.</span>

AbstractThe identification of one’s own research strengths is of crucial importance for research administration at universities. In this case study, two different approaches were applied to the University of Vienna. The first relies on funding and rankings information as well as on other esteem indicators. The second is based on a bibliometric analysis of the publication output. We used two alternative clusterings for publications for the bibliometric analysis: Web of Science subject categories and lists of researchers associated with esteem-indicators. Both, esteem-indicators and bibliometric analysis proved to be useful in identifying research strengths, lead to similar results and are meant to be used together to complement each other. We found that the greatest hindrance in the bibliometric approach lies in the inherent limitations of journals-assignment-based classification systems and the considerable time and efforts for more accurate researcher-based publication analyses. Further investigation on this subject, including new and alternative metrics, is needed and will be conducted in the future. However, the preliminary results already demonstrate the benefits of using esteem-factors together with bibliometric analyses for research strengths definition of universities.

An analysis of 12,317 publications published by Research Productivity on Occupational Health during 1998-2018 and indexed by Web of Science online database indicates the publication output in the global level research productivity of the publication. The highest numbers of papers were published during the year 2018 with 1,237 records followed by the year 2016 with 1,189 records. Overall, 31,498 authors contributed 2,866 publications in the journal and global cited scores with 149,345 records of the articles. A total of 138 countries have contributed in publications of the output of total research productivity. In this research, it is found that articles have been written using 25 languages.

This paper attempts to analyse quantitatively the growth and development of Paddy (Oryza Sativa) Cereal Crop research in India in terms of publication output as reflected in CAB Direct Online Database. During the period 1951-2017 a total of 1,80,675 papers were published by the scientists of India respectively on Paddy Crop analysis. India is the top country in Agricultural research with its contribution of 29,038 papers which is nearly (15.9%) of the global research output of Agricultural research followed by the specific country are in China with 17,266 papers (9.4%). The most preferred journals where the International Rice Research Newsletter with 3693 papers (6.5%) followed by the Chinese Journal of Rice Science with 2069 papers (3.6%). The study revealed that out of the world India has the highest range the production of paddy. It covers India is a top level in the field of agricultural research as a part of the Indian country are ranked higher position of Tamil Nadu in southern states.
