Internet dependency measures need to be refined from the previous measurements with regard to media dependency in order to more fully understand relations with the Internet and how the population uses the Internet to facilitate adaptation into a constantly changing culture. The bases for this study will be media system dependency theory, however, there are new concepts that need to be refined in order to build a greater understanding of how dependencies vary with types of media. The application included in this chapter tries to identify how users of the Internet learn information about culture and, therefore, facilitate their adaptation into the information age. With regard to Internet dependency, findings show that Internet goals, unlike those posited in the media system dependency literature (namely, understanding, orientation, and play) were better identified as goals related to Information, Communication, Entertainment, and News.

It takes into account both the history of the media — from the press through radio and television to the internet — and the current situation. The author describes the most important Israeli media: newspapers, television and radio stations, as well as websites, taking into consideration their popularity on the market, political orientation and importance in Israel’s media world.

The Internet has become a popular medium now because it provides many benefits to users, though at the same time it also carries negative effects, especially to developing countries, such as sedition, pornography, defamation and cyber crime. Therefore, this study focuses on the control and freedom of the Internet system and the challenges faced by the government. The main focus of this paper is to see whether the government face challenges in controlling the content of the Internet. This study uses two theories, namely the theory of media development and media dependency theory as a guideline for the study. Qualitative approach such as in-depth interviews were chosen as research methodology to obtain the qualitative data. The study found that there are several challenges faced by the government in controlling the misuse of Internet, such as Internet domain registration, difficulties in identifying suspects, false registration, development of technology and content monitoring aspects.

In modern culture, a special place is occupied by the Internet space, which is a space for obtaining information, communication, constructing virtual reality and self-realization of the individual. The Internet space has a multifunctional nature and is part of the media culture, in the context of which ideas about the creative personality, artistic creativity, and cultural memory are updated. The process of representation of a creative personality in the Internet space is especially actively developing during anniversary events and dates that form an informational occasion. On the eve of the 200th anniversary of Russian poet N. A. Nekrasov, the author of the article turned to understanding the Nekrasov discourse of the modern Internet space. The aim of the research is to analyze the Nekrasov discourse in terms of its representation, specificity, and functions. In the course of the study, the author considered options and ways to represent the poet's work on the Internet: special projects dedicated to the life and work of N. A. Nekrasov were analyzed. There is a tendency to represent biographical information about N. A. Nekrasov on the Internet, which transforms or destroys the stereotypical ideas about the poet received in the course of school education. Special attention is paid to the media technologies of the mythologization of the personality and creativity of N. A. Nekrasov, which are associated with the creation of new myths about the poet as a cultural hero who acquires a trickster beginning, and the mythologization of the Nekrasov chronotope is indicated. The author draws attention to the specifics of the Nekrasov discourse, which is associated with the creation of hypertext in the Internet space. The article considers the principles of hypertextual construction of the Nekrasov discourse, notes its non-linearity, actualization of the creative activity of the addresser and addressee, and features of modeling the Nekrasov text in the Internet space. The author outlined the main functions of the Nekrasov discourse that have informational and symbolic meaning, and noted its positive and negative connotations.

Abstract The paper questions the pervasive western intellectual universalism which disregards Global South imaginations for generalized approaches. Using field data from Uganda about Community Audio Towers (CATs), the western-generated community media theory is interrogated, accentuating its failure to account for the intricate relationship between the individual, society, and small media. To cover the gap, the Small Media System Dependency theory is herein introduced as a geocultural response to lack of theory from the South.

Resumo o pilar teórico da Economia Política é a teoria do valor-trabalho. O capitalismo contemporâneo vem submetendo essa teoria a desafios teóricos e práticos pois, nas atuais condições de produção, o valor de troca estaria sendo esvaziado, subsistindo o valor de uso. The authors focus on such properties of regional Internet media as multimedia and convergence, which fully meet the requirements of the modern media market. Covering this topic, the authors focus on Internet publications of the Republic of Tatarstan. The specifics of the Internet media significantly changed the work of the journalists themselves, the nature of the submission of materials, the target audience, and the whole system of functioning of the media in general. The authors state that in recent years there has been a significant change in the media system due to the emergence and development of the Internet media, which not only took its place in it, but also determined the leading trends in its functioning. It is also important to study the influence of special features of network journalism on the media system in terms of their historical development and the mutual influence of Internet journalism and the technologies of the global network. The increasingly active use of multimedia technologies in the media and the very transformation of the multimedia character continue to change the format of journalistic activity. It is relevant to consider the influence of multimedia on the nature of structural and content changes that determine the forms of information delivery in regional media. The experience of the Internet media of the Republic of Tatarstan is generalized, which have broad opportunities to influence public opinion.
