Trust Types and Information Technology in the Process of Business Cooperation

This chapter deals with how IT influences the different levels and types of trust that arise in business cooperation relationships. Trust is specially important for cooperation and communication is essential along its different stages. So, the role of IT is key for trust development, because IT offers greater possibilities of access to more and better information, and increases the chances of interaction between the agents who use these technologies. We analyze how IT can affect trust from different perspectives and typologies along the process of business cooperation which begins with the initial decision to cooperate, and follows with the selection of potential partners, the negotiation and structure definition, management, evaluation and relationship evolution. At each stage we comment some possibilities of promoting different trust types through IT to improve cooperation performance.

The UPF3B-dependent branch of the nonsense-mediated RNA decay (NMD) pathway is critical for human cognition. Here, we examined the role of UPF3B in the olfactory system. Single-cell RNA-sequencing (scRNA-seq) analysis demonstrated considerable heterogeneity of olfactory sensory neuron (OSN) cell populations in wild-type (WT) mice, and revealed that UPF3B loss influences specific subsets of these cell populations. UPF3B also regulates the expression of a large cadre of antimicrobial genes in OSNs, and promotes the selection of specific olfactory receptor (Olfr) genes for expression in mature OSNs (mOSNs). RNA-seq and Ribotag analyses identified classes of mRNAs expressed and translated at different levels in WT and Upf3b-null mOSNs. Integrating multiple computational approaches, UPF3B-dependent NMD target transcripts that are candidates to mediate the functions of NMD in mOSNs were identified in vivo. Together, our data provides a valuable resource for the olfactory field and insights into the roles of NMD in vivo.

Managing dependencies via coordination is an effective solution for the problems that arise from these interdependencies in supply chains. This can be practical via a set of methods called coordination mechanisms. Numerous coordination mechanisms have been discussed before in literature. This paper develops a new classification of these mechanisms on the basis of information technology (IT) impact on them. This classification proves the important role of IT in better coordinating supply chains and help managers distinguish between coordination mechanisms that are created and improved by information technology and thus lead them to have the best choice based on their infrastructures and organization type.

The deep penetration of computers in all realms of society makes technological change the key driver for changing our lives. This will result in a change in approach, from viewing the role of IT as mainly supporting other disciplines, to the integration of IT concepts, tools and theory into modelling theories of the supported disciplines. This chapter discusses some aspects of the relationship between the IT as a modelling discipline, and the modelling disciplines of the domains where IT is applied. IT deals with data and data processes, while application domain models deal with entities of the domain and how they interact. Cross-competence models must deal with both, and with how models of the information technology discipline relate to the various models of the domain disciplines.

Supply Chain Management SCM is a very critical part of any business. A well-coordinated SCM can improve the efficiency of the business and help in cost reduction. As information technology (IT) is being used widely across all businesses, SCM can benefit to a large extent by the use of IT. This article reviews a number of papers in this field and suggests research gaps for further exploration. The aim of this article is to review the literature on the role of IT on supply chain management (SCM) with special focus on the pharmaceutical industry and suggest possible gaps from the point of view of researchers and practitioners. The article finds that IT has made a significant impact in improving the efficiency of SCM. But its successful implementation and collaboration with other firms is the key to success for an efficient SCM. Within each category, gaps have been identified.

PurposeInnovative use of enterprise systems (ES) by employees is essential for organisations to benefit from huge investments in such systems. Drawing on job demands-resources (JDR) theory, this study explores how stressors (i.e. challenge and hindrance stressors) influence employees' innovative use of ES, as well as considering the moderating effects of IT mindfulness.Design/methodology/approachData were collected from a longitudinal survey of 152 employees in a large financial service company in China. Hierarchical multiple regression was used to test the research model.FindingsResults showed that challenge stressors exerted a positive effect and hindrance stressors had no significant effect on innovative use of ES. Furthermore, we found that IT mindfulness weakened the positive effect of challenge stressors and the negative effect of hindrance stressors on innovative use of ES.Originality/valueThis study is among the first to extend the research of innovative use of ES by considering two types of stressors based on the JDR theory. Besides, new insights are provided on how to promote employees' innovative use of ES in the post-acceptance stage according to the different levels of IT mindfulness of employees.

ABSTRACT This study investigates the extant literature concerned with Information Technology Governance (ITG), published in leading accounting and management information systems journals, in the period 2005 to 2017. While recent research into ITG has taken a more holistic organizational perspective, the essence remains people, product, processes, and performance. Our review reveals ITG's increasingly dual role in improving organizational capability and performance, as well as controlling and monitoring outcomes. Findings show that ITG is concerned with both governing of IT and governing through IT, presaging a more defined connection between ITG's five focus areas and Corporate Governance. Other new themes include ITG's role in improving outcomes in intra- and inter-organizational relationships, embryonic efforts to distill a theory of ITG, and emerging scenarios where the evolving role of IT in business activities is creating profound organizational implications and consequently new avenues for ITG.

This case describes the evolution of the use of information technology (IT) at National Banking Services, one of the oldest banks in India. It describes the bank’s response to economic liberalization and the resulting initiatives for IT adoption. It highlights the influence of organizational readiness on IT adoption. In particular, it describes the negative influence on IT adoption of conditions such as the lack of top management support, skeptical end-user attitudes about the benefits of IT, and resistance from employee unions. The case ends with a description of the changing role of IT in the banking industry in India and the challenges confronting the bank.

My original project was to determine ethical principles for ethically globalized institutions. I also wanted to determine the role of IT in the ethics of globalization. Economic and cultural globalization are two of the most powerful forces enabled by IT. So my further question was, what is IT’s ethical responsibility with respect to these forces? The two focal points in this book for considering globalization were, first, Information Technology and, second, ethical issues which emerge only at a transnational level.

This chapter articulates the knowledge and skills required by IT professionals in young Internet-based firms. Building on the general IT governance principle of aligning business and IT, it introduces an adequate competence model, outlines its dimensions, and suggests a framework for modeling the effects of factors internal and external to the firm on the value propositions of the different dimensions. The authors hope that a comprehensive understanding of the role of IT-related competence will assist founders not only in finding suitable partners, but also in aligning e-business strategy and information technology in Internet-based ventures.
