Wikibook Transformations and Disruptions

A Wikibook is a transformative and disruptive technology that is finding increasing use in schools and higher education institutions. This new form of technology is inexpensive, accessible, and fairly responsive to the user. When engaged in a Wikibook project in an academic setting, learners are granted power to control the content and process of learning. Wikibooks are part of the Web 2.0 which can provide a powerful force in changing, and improving education. However, the authors’ multiple attempts to build Wikibooks in their own classes reveal that creating a successful Wikibook is not particularly easy. It is even more difficult when it entails more than one institution or class. Cross-institutional and internationally designed Wikibooks present many instructional challenges and dilemmas to learners and instructors. In addition, there are collaboration issues, technology issues, knowledge construction and sense of community issues, and general issues related to the Wikibook technology and the Wikibook design process itself. In response, in this chapter, the authors provide dozens of Wikibook collaboration ideas and suggestions based on our experiences.

This chapter discusses the role of accessibility in higher education institutions during the COVID-19 global pandemic. Under the law, administrators in higher education are obligated to provide accessible programs and services to students. They are also required to provide accessible work environments for employees. Administrators also have other incentives for doing so, such as building a sense of community. As a result of the shift to hybrid and or totally virtual delivery models of instruction, institutional administrators need a research-based methodology to assess their programs and services for accessibility consideration. This chapter provides higher education administrators with such a methodology. It also makes recommendations for creating return to campus plans, including how universal design can be implemented as part of the plan.

As a result of the stay-at-home mandates related to Covid-19 across the world, higher education institutions scrambled to move their curricula online. With no clear guidelines on when face-to-face (F2F) instruction will resume on campuses across the nation, this article can be a helpful guide for educators who teach, or are planning on teaching, Advertising Campaigns online. Specifically, an online asynchronous approach to teaching this fundamental course is described. Furthermore, this article provides an overview of the materials used and reviews alternative strategies to accomplish meaningful learning opportunities through the web.

The purpose of the study is to investigate the extent of higher education institutions commitment in serving community according to its social responsibility. Accordingly; the researcher adopted the descriptive analytical approach through using the quantitative approach by developing a questionnaire fitting the nature of the study. Based on this the study concluded several findings; indicating that the evaluations of faculty members for the role of Palestinian higher education institutions participated in the study (Beir Zait. Al-najah. American University) are in an average level in the domains of encouraging faculty members on participating in conferences as well as local and international seminars. Developing courses and academic programs and directing scientific research to solve community problems. Additionally, serving special needs people in the community. Meanwhile, the evaluations of faculty members for the role of Palestinian higher education institutions participated in the study were high in the domains of preserving environment, seeking to serve the community and social responsibility towards its employees. Based on the findings the study reached several recommendations such as; the need to work to establish social responsibility in the curricula and university courses specializing in community service and bring about desired behavioral changes. And put social responsibility at the heart of the general strategies of institutions of higher education so as to have a key role in establishing a competitive strategic thought that serves society and its issues by addressing its problems and seeking solutions to them using scientific methods. Enhancing coordination between higher education institutions and research centers in holding seminars and conferences and participating in the preparation of studies and researches related to community issues.

This chapter discusses the issue of blended course design, with particular emphasis on a transcultural context. The chapter provides a description of a 3-dimensional model of TBLT curriculum design as implemented in a teacher education institution. The model comprises of a six-step instructional design focusing on the institution’s student population. Four examples of blended courses designed through use of the model and the design process are presented, with particular emphasis on the institution’s transcultural student population. A literature review on issues of blended learning in higher education institutions and transcultural learning is included. The chapter concludes with a discussion of how lecturers in higher education institutions may be able to use the model and design process to successfully construct blended learning courses within a transcultural context.

Wars between countries, technological developments and acculturation affect every field, as well as the field of education. The social crisis and moral corruption produced by the modern world have led families and educators to think, work and produce projects on the necessity of human values and education. Language, which is one of the human values and one of the ways of maintaining the existence of a nation and transferring its culture, is very important. In this context, it is seen that the emphasis on values is increasing day by day. The education level where the need for restructuring is felt the most is higher education. It is important that training given in higher education institutions is given within the framework of human value perceptions and the training of employees of the future profession group. In this context, it is very important to associate language and human values with literature teaching. In this study, studies on the theoretical and methodological foundations of literature teaching in the framework of new human knowledge in higher education institutions were examined. In this context, the aim of the study is to examine the theoretical and methodological foundations of literature teaching within the framework of new human knowledge in higher education institutions and the related documents scanned in the Web of Science database, thematically and methodologically. The study was designed by adopting a case study from the qualitative research models. A sample was not determined for the studies to be included in the research and the entire universe was reached. In this context, all documents in the Web of Science database were accessed through the library system of the university. In the document search, the keywords ‘higher educational’ and ‘theoretical and methodological’ were searched in all fields and studies were found by searching for the keyword ‘teaching literature’ in the title. All studies were analysed by year, document type, Web of Science category, research area, country and publication language. The findings obtained from the research were explained in detail with the content analysis method. In the research findings, 78 documents were reached. The findings obtained as a result of the research are given in detail in the findings and results section. The conditions are investigated in which Spanish university teachers carry out their teaching and research functions. 655 teachers from the University of Oviedo took part in this study by completing the Academic Setting Evaluation Questionnaire (ASEQ). Of the three dimensions assessed in the ASEQ, Satisfaction received the lowest ratings, Social Climate was rated higher, and Relations with students was rated the highest. These results are similar to those found in two studies carried out in the academic years 1986/87 and 1989/90. Their relevance for higher education is twofold because these data can be used as a complement of those obtained by means of students' opinions, and the crossing of both types of data can facilitate decision making in order to improve the quality of the work (teaching and research) of the university institutions.
