A New Recommendation for Green IT Strategies

Incorporating the natural environment as a strategic focus has recently been recognized as a possible source of competitive advantage. In this regard, green IT provides an opportunity for companies to tackle the environmental issue, and simultaneously serves as a source of competitive advantage. However, the field of green IT strategy, from the perspective of environmental management, remains limited by its distinct lack of a theoretical framework and straightforward definitions. In this conceptual study, we proposed “green IT strategies” based on a resource-based perspective by incorporating modern institutional theory into a strategic formulation. This chapter conceptualizes three different strategies: tactical green IT strategy, strategic proactive green IT strategy, and sustained green IT strategy, along with theory-based propositions for each of the strategies. The chapter also demonstrates that the Green IT strategy is path-dependent; that is to say, a firm’s prior experience and history helps determine its current strategies. This study also involves a discussion of the development of the theory, the proposed model, and some possible future research directions.

The present chapter provides an integrative review of the work stress literature while referring to the empirical evidence on passion for work in relation to psychological health, that is, well- and ill-being manifestations. Drawing on recent scientific literature, the chapter presents an extended dualist model of passion in adaptation to the work environment, which aims to identify work environment factors that are associated with well- and ill-being, and to examine the moderating role of passion for work in the psychological processes associated with psychological health. Results confirming the proposed model are presented, as well as future research directions.

PurposeSHRM is facing potential theoretical challenge in terms of unveiling “black box” mystery lies between logical and strategic application of SHRM and its impact on organizational effectiveness. To explore the gap between HR contribution and competitive advantage gained by the organizations, a viable mediating framework is needed in SHRM.Design/Methodology/ApproachIn the awake of rising world interest in SHRM, this paper aimed to analyze the scholarly works on SHRM those offer to stimulate mechanisms and configurations through which SHRM can serve to improve organizational effectiveness. Outcome of the debate is likely to use in future empirical research.FindingsOrganization needs to distinguish itself in performance and strategy from the other organizations. Improvement in resources helps the organizations to gain competitive advantage. Resource-based view of the firm used as a lens for this study explains that difference in business’s performance is dependent upon resources owned by the business. This study attempts to offer a framework that proposes a strategy to distinguish itself in performance. HRM management set up in an organization gets influenced by HR system, and practices prevalent in the organization, workforce skills, employee level of competence, employee commitment and engagement. An organization cannot remain aloof from the repercussions of extraneous conditions such as political, economic, sociological, technological, legal and environment.Limitations and Future Research DirectionsThis conceptual study is limited to state and status of strategic HRM activities in Pakistani organizations. Future study may conduct empirical research by including employee perceptions as unit of analysis at the province level.Practical Implications The study is of great value to Pakistani organizations to excel on organizational effectiveness to optimize financial performance. This chapter provides an end-user perspective on mobile multimedia services that are likely to emerge with the roll out of Third Generation Mobile Services (3G). More specifically, the objectives of the study are: to provide an insight into current behavior in terms of attitudes towards, access and usage of multimedia mobile services by current end users; to establish main clusters of mobile users; to investigate the possible motivations and barriers of usage of new mobile multimedia services as viewed by current users. The remainder of this chapter is organized into the following four sections. The first section provides a brief review of the literature on the technology acceptance model. Next we present our research model based on a qualitative exploratory survey conducted in six markets. Then we test the proposed model on the Italian market and present the analysis and results of our study. Finally we make conclusions by discussing the implications of our study, followed by presenting future research directions.

The majority of tunable liquid crystal devices are driven by electric fields. The performance of such devices can be altered by the presence of small amounts of ions in liquid crystals. Therefore, the understanding of possible sources of ions in liquid crystal materials is very critical to a broad range of existing and future applications employing liquid crystals. Recently, nanomaterials in liquid crystals have emerged as a hot research topic, promising for its implementation in the design of wearable and tunable liquid crystal devices. An analysis of published results revealed that nanodopants in liquid crystals can act as either ion-capturing agents or ion-generating objects. In this presentation, a recently developed model of contaminated nanomaterials is analyzed. Nanoparticle-enabled ion capturing and ion generation regimes in liquid crystals are discussed within the framework of the proposed model. This model is in very good agreement with existing experimental results. Practical implications and future research directions are also discussed.

The literature establishes that customer and frontline employee (FLE) emotions converge during their encounters as a result of a transient, contagion-based process in which emotions flow from one actor to another. Recent evidence suggests, however, that this transient process does not produce emotional convergence among frontline dyads engaged in ongoing exchange, a surprising finding, given the wealth of evidence in support of the idea that customers and FLEs engaged in relational exchange strongly influence one another. In light of this evidence, we argue here that customers and FLEs engaged in ongoing exchange experience similar emotions not as a result of the transient transfer of emotions, but because they develop the tendency to undergo a similar emotional response to relationship events, a phenomenon we call the shared frontline experience. Informed by the social psychology literature, we support this idea by advancing a conceptual model that highlights the role of relationship closeness, personality similarity, and dyadic attachment style in producing the shared frontline experience. The proposed model also suggests that firms stand to benefit from the shared frontline experience of customers and FLEs if they provide the dyad with autonomy, a decision not without risk. Future research directions suggested by this perspective are discussed.

Despite modern advances used to estimate the discharge coefficient ( C d ), it is still a major challenge for hydraulic engineers to accurately determine C d for side weirs. In this study, extra tree regression (ETR) was used to predict the C d of rectangular sharp-crested side weirs depending on hydraulic and geometrical parameters. The prediction capacity of the ETR model was validated with two predictive models, namely, extreme learning machine (ELM) and random forest (RF). The quantitative assessment revealed that the ETR model achieved the highest accuracy in the predictions compared to other applied models, and also, it exhibited excellent agreement between measured and predicted C d (correlation coefficient is 0.9603). Moreover, the ETR achieved 6.73% and 22.96% higher prediction accuracy in terms of root mean square error in comparison to ELM and RF, respectively. Furthermore, the performed sensitivity analysis shows that the geometrical parameter such as b/B has the most influence on C d . Overall, the proposed model (ETR) is found to be a suitable, practical, and qualified computer-aid technology for C d modeling that may contribute to enhance the basic knowledge of hydraulic considerations.

The wide use of ontology in different applications has resulted in a plethora of automatic approaches for population and enrichment of an ontology. Ontology enrichment is an iterative process where the existing ontology is continuously updated with new concepts. A key aspect in ontology enrichment process is the concept learning approach. A learning approach can be a linguistic-based, statistical-based, or hybrid-based that employs both linguistic as well as statistical-based learning approaches. This chapter presents a concept enrichment model that combines contextual and semantic information of terms. The proposed model called SEMCON employs a hybrid concept learning approach utilizing functionalities from statistical and linguistic ontology learning techniques. The model introduced for the first time two statistical features that have shown to improve the overall score ranking of highly relevant terms for concept enrichment. The chapter also gives some recommendations and possible future research directions based on the discussion in following sections.

Enhanced internal marketing (IM) practice may deliver a competitive advantage for budget airline operators through increased employee satisfaction. This study examines the relationship between IM practice and employee satisfaction in a budget airline setting. A survey was administered to 252 flight attendants to investigate and analyse their perceptions of IM practice and current satisfaction with their employer. Data were analysed via structural equation modelling. The results indicate that IM practice impacted significantly on an employee's satisfaction with the budget airline. The findings suggest IM practice can be used by budget airline managers to deliver increased employee satisfaction, which in turn will enhance competitive advantage. Limitations and future research directions are outlined.

A patch management model provides a framework with which a system’s parameters and behavior can be tested and validated. The authors propose a formal framework that is based on the Continuous Time Markov Chain Model and validate the model using the SHARPE modeling tool. Furthermore, they perform sensitivity analyses to study the dynamic behavior of the proposed model with varying parameter values. A discussion on the results of our study and future research directions concludes the paper.

This chapter discusses the intricacies of innovation and competitive advantage, the current leadership gap within FinTech firms, and how these occurrences are enabled and improved through the utilization of authentic leadership practices within the context of the FinTech industry. Following this discussion, the authors observe the future research directions and potential areas of exploration in which other scholars may divulge. Through the exploration of our research question, “How can authentic leadership behaviors enable innovation and competitive advantage in FinTech firms?” they found the importance of authentic leadership within any industry or organization may be enhanced and explored further, as it appears to have a positive impact on innovation within organizations which in turn has the potential to provide a variety of opportunities for growth and competitive advantage.
