Small electronic devices, also referred to as handhelds, are impacting education in a variety of ways including teaching methods, student life, and the need for support from technical staff. This chapter discusses the importance of handhelds in education, how handhelds are being used in education, the challenges presented by handhelds for those in education and what might happen with handhelds in the future.

The stories in Qur'an are Allah’s decrees which convey more beau-tiful values beyond any religious text ever written. It is the holiest scripture and is written  in a wonderful, understandable, and attract-ive language humbly conveying a vast amount of information about life and events that happened in the past. It’s aim is to be an object of reflection for human beings living in this age and the future. Even more so, the stories in Al-Qur'an also entail an educative function providing learning materials,  and teaching methods, regarding the transformative power of Islam and the internalization of true religious values.

Purpose A research project exploring emerging student needs explored six aspects of student life: living, learning, working, playing, connecting and participating. Design/methodology/approach A modified version of the University of Houston’s “Framework Foresight” method was used to explore the future of six aspects of future student life. The resulting scenarios were analyzed for their implications, including the use of the World Café technique, and ultimately led to the identification of nine emerging student needs. Findings Nine specific emerging needs of future students could be used strategically by institutions of higher education to guide and inform planning and to generate innovative ideas for university offerings. Specific examples of offerings that would meet the projected future needs are recommended. Research limitations/implications In terms of research limitations, the paper is focused on the needs of students and does not purport to be an exhaustive analysis of all of the issues influencing higher education. It views the future of higher education through the lens of students and their emerging needs. Practical implications The paper is intended for educators, researchers and administrators to provide insight on how the needs of students, their key customers, are evolving. Originality/value This piece explores student life in its totality as way to more accurately identify student needs in the future.

The COVID-19 pandemic has forced us to reconsider the way we teach our students. The inability of UK-based lecturers to deliver via traditional lecture-based courses in China (due to ongoing travel restrictions) has been an obstacle to overcome but also an opportunity to investigate innovative remote-teaching methods. Here we review a case study based on teaching three different year groups at the Jinan University - University of Birmingham Joint Institute during the early part of 2020. We reflect on how technology was used, draw conclusions and discuss potential opportunities for the future of remote-teaching.

The goal of this pre-study was to prescribe a solution to a perceived decrease in student engagement in an elective course on additive manufacturing. The objectives were to:identify in what activities the students are engaging; identify causes for lack of engagement in their studies, if any;identify possible changes to the additive manufacturing course.A mixed (quantitative and qualitative) triangulation interpretivist approach was used to address the first two objectives. Approximately half (1/2) the students stated that their studies was not their priority, two thirds (2/3) reported that they attended university primarily to earn a diploma rather than to learn and again two thirds (2/3) said that they had difficulty concentrating, signs that most students are not fully engaged in learning. The qualitative analysis provided insight and nuance to the quantitative analysis. It made it possible to identify sources for lack of engagement. Apart from the presence of electronic devices which distract attention, teaching methods, course content and evaluation modalities were often cited. Based on the findings, three changes are suggested to the course

Regarding the characteristics of this certificate and its clear substantial differences with futures derivative, it prevents unreal paper markets formation. The latest owner of the certificate is the owner of the commodity. Moreover, the depositor can ask the bank that the entrepreneur sells the commodity and pays the money –instead of commodity- to him at the end of the contract.

The article discusses some theoretical and methodological problems of using the digital educational resources of a future teacher. The study determines that the integrated use of the capabilities of information and telecommunication technologies in education can be achieved through the development and use of multifunctional digital educational resources that meet the current needs of the educational process, the features of the content, teaching methods and forms. The authors in the article, analyzing the scientific and pedagogical literature, the authors strive to show the direction of the introduction of digital educational resources in the educational process and the psychological principles of development necessary for their description and use, as well as the basic requirements of the educational system in digital educational resources.

The growing availability of well-equipped handheld devices and the increasing mobility of users influence the way today’s services can be used. In the future, services provided by different devices can be used on an ad-hoc basis to fulfill user-specified tasks. This chapter proposes an infrastructure for mobile networks that allows for the rating of nodes with respect to their provided functionalities. Thus, it is possible to create reputation relationships and trust assessments between service requesters and service providers. One means for making use of trust relationships is in the reduction and the prevention of interactions with misbehaving or inaccurate nodes. The authors’ work also factors in the subjectivity of users by allowing different service quality perceptions for each user. Thus, each user can base his or her cooperation behavior on their own service behavior preferences instead on the aggregated preferences of all users.
