‘Community policing’, a major reform in policing, broadens the police mandate beyond the traditional focus of fighting crime to addressing community problems through a personalized approach that draws citizens into the process of policing themselves. Emulating this movement, the Police Administration in numerous states of India have recently engaged in community policing through e-governance specifically tailored to meet the diverse needs of their populace. Two such case studies, eCOPS in Andhra Pradesh and Lokvani in Uttar Pradesh are discussed showing the multifold benefits of such a movement in increasing transparency, trustworthiness, and efficiency of the police administration. The chapter concludes by making a bid to foster this symbiotic digital mode of interaction between the police and citizens by introducing domain specific performance measures. Such measures will allow for easy monitoring, revising, and garnering national support to institutionalize, validate, standardize, facilitate, and promote these programs to help create a proactive all-hazards resilient citizenry for the future.

This article analyses and tests a novel framework for the evaluation of an ERP project. The framework incorporates specific performance measures, which are linked to a previously developed model, (the ‘six-imperatives’ framework) and are relevant to ERP implementation Two case studies illustrate the use of the framework in two Greek companies aiming to measure, in practical terms, the impact of the ERP project on their operations. The main results indicate that the “six-imperatives” provide a comprehensive methodology based on the profound exploration and understanding of specific business processes and objectives that should be met in order to assess an ERP project.

SYNOPSIS This paper investigates the importance of role-specific performance measures and sociopolitical factors in the career paths of CFOs. We find that forced CFO turnover is associated with poor performance in functions over which they have more direct influence, including financial reporting, financing, and regulatory compliance. We also find that CFOs are less likely to be dismissed when they have greater connectedness with the CEO and have stronger influence within the firm. Interestingly, sociopolitical factors are linked with promotion outcomes, but economic performance does not appear to play a significant role. The collective evidence indicates that both economic and sociopolitical factors have an important role in influencing CFO career paths.

This article attempts to analyse status of agricultural credit and indebtedness in India. The objectives of the study are as follows: (a) to study a comparison of flow of total institutional agricultural credit among different land size groups at all India level; (b) to study a comparison of indebtedness of agricultural households between different size classes of land possessed at both states and all India level and (c) to analyse incidence of indebtedness in major Indian states. It is concluded that mostly, short- and medium-term loans of agricultural purposes are taken for marginal land size groups in India. The percentage of indebted agricultural households to total agricultural household increases as land size increases. The percentage of holdings is less than percentage of indebted agricultural households in Punjab, Uttar Pradesh, Andhra Pradesh, West Bengal, Karnataka, Odisha and Rajasthan. JEL Code: Q14

This article presents a low-power, programmable, domain-specific manycore accelerator, Binarized neural Network Manycore Accelerator (BiNMAC), which adopts and efficiently executes binary precision weight/activation neural network models. Such networks have compact models in which weights are constrained to only 1 bit and can be packed several in one memory entry that minimizes memory footprint to its finest. Packing weights also facilitates executing single instruction, multiple data with simple circuitry that allows maximizing performance and efficiency. The proposed BiNMAC has light-weight cores that support domain-specific instructions, and a router-based memory access architecture that helps with efficient implementation of layers in binary precision weight/activation neural networks of proper size. With only 3.73% and 1.98% area and average power overhead, respectively, novel instructions such as Combined Population-Count-XNOR , Patch-Select , and Bit-based Accumulation are added to the instruction set architecture of the BiNMAC, each of which replaces execution cycles of frequently used functions with 1 clock cycle that otherwise would have taken 54, 4, and 3 clock cycles, respectively. Additionally, customized logic is added to every core to transpose 16×16-bit blocks of memory on a bit-level basis, that expedites reshaping intermediate data to be well-aligned for bitwise operations. A 64-cluster architecture of the BiNMAC is fully placed and routed in 65-nm TSMC CMOS technology, where a single cluster occupies an area of 0.53 mm 2 with an average power of 232 mW at 1-GHz clock frequency and 1.1 V. The 64-cluster architecture takes 36.5 mm 2 area and, if fully exploited, consumes a total power of 16.4 W and can perform 1,360 Giga Operations Per Second (GOPS) while providing full programmability. To demonstrate its scalability, four binarized case studies including ResNet-20 and LeNet-5 for high-performance image classification, as well as a ConvNet and a multilayer perceptron for low-power physiological applications were implemented on BiNMAC. The implementation results indicate that the population-count instruction alone can expedite the performance by approximately 5×. When other new instructions are added to a RISC machine with existing population-count instruction, the performance is increased by 58% on average. To compare the performance of the BiNMAC with other commercial-off-the-shelf platforms, the case studies with their double-precision floating-point models are also implemented on the NVIDIA Jetson TX2 SoC (CPU+GPU). The results indicate that, within a margin of ∼2.1%--9.5% accuracy loss, BiNMAC on average outperforms the TX2 GPU by approximately 1.9× (or 7.5× with fabrication technology scaled) in energy consumption for image classification applications. On low power settings and within a margin of ∼3.7%--5.5% accuracy loss compared to ARM Cortex-A57 CPU implementation, BiNMAC is roughly ∼9.7×--17.2× (or 38.8×--68.8× with fabrication technology scaled) more energy efficient for physiological applications while meeting the application deadline.

This essay will investigate a series of performances in Greece that showcase the theme of crisis discussed through the particular frame of their expanded scenographic strategies as dramaturgies of crisis. This expanded scenography is not restricted to politics and aesthetics of scenographic representation extending well beyond traditional staging paradigms to aspects that reinstate the emergence of social realities and a fundamentally social conception of space. Indicatively, this includes strategies like introducing various charged elements from lived experi-ence and contemporary visual culture, as well as conflictual aesthetics of the crisis and visual and spatial dramaturgies of the precarious. Sce-nographic dramaturgies of crisis seem to thrive on new spatial perfor-mance forms that directly interact with social realities and real spaces (like site-specific performance), while they mobilize a renewed address to found, shared public space putting to use strategies of participation. In this context of the crisis, the widespread multimedia idioms and the proliferation of video and cinematic idioms are also notable. Perfor-mances that thematize aspects of the crisis, such as Revolt Athens (2016), and the twin site-specific performances built with a core topographical address, Tea Time Europe (2014-15) and Eat Time Europe (2016) will be an-alyzed as key case studies to exemplify and further contextualize their scenographic approaches as content and context-oriented formulations, as visual and spatial dramaturgies that provide us with an entryway into performing crisis.
