Off-balance-sheet activity played a vital role in helping banks limit long-term financial resources in the balance sheet report and increase the bank's profitability worldwide. The authors explored the determinates of OBS items with banking and economic factors influencing off-balance items in the measurement of banks' output of selected large banks in India for the duration of 2008 to 2017. This study used a multiple regression model to describe the logical connection between the role of OBS and its various determinants like bank size, CRAR loan SLR, NNPA, NIM, ROA, GDP, inflation for the said period. This study found that bank size and NIM were positively affected the OBS activities, whereas CRAR and loan negatively affected the OBSA of selected private sector banks.

The wheat yield trends of six rotation systems were examined over the 29-year period 1940-1968. The multiple regression model used incorporated variables to minimize the effect of climatic fluctuations and trends. All the rotation systems examined showed positive, almost linear, yield increases over the first 19 years (1940-1958). Over the final 10 years (1959-1968) those systems including a pasture phase continued to show a linear yield increase; other three-course systems (fallow, wheat, stubble crop) showed a less than linear yield increase; while the two-course system (fallow, wheat) showed a 22% yield decline. Possible factors influencing the yield trends are briefly discussed.

The article explores theoretical and methodical aspects of managing dual relationships that arise between participants in logistic cooperation in the process of formation and functioning of supply chains. The use of a behavioral approach to defining supply chains has allowed identifying and justifying the priority role of behavioral factors that influence modern logistics entities and determine the effectiveness and long-term satisfaction with logistics cooperation. Given the literature summary, the study has classified types of cooperation in logistic activity and proved that among the behavioral factors influencing the of logistical cooperation efficiency, the trust is of particular importance, which remains a limitation, a bottleneck in the process of formation and development of dual relationships in logistics chains. It is proposed to introduce a generic indicator, namely the level of confidence in the supply chain to assess the social, economic and strategic aspects of logistics interaction. A methodological approach to assessing the level of trust in logistic cooperation was adjusted based on determining the composition of criteria that directly affect this indicator and using the expert survey of supply chain participants. The study proposes to use the confidence indicator to form and improve networks and supply chains, taking into account its value when constructing a generalized outsourcing model.

Purpose The present study aims to investigate the relationship between intellectual capital and the readability of financial statements with the mediating role of management characteristics of companies listed on the Tehran Stock Exchange. In other words, this research tries to find the answer to whether intellectual capital can positively affect the readability of financial statements. Design/methodology/approach A multivariate regression model was used to test the hypotheses for this purpose. The research hypotheses were tested using a sample of 1,309 observations listed on the Tehran Stock Exchange from 2012 to 2018 and a multiple regression model based on panel data and fixed-effects models. Findings The results indicate that intellectual capital has a positive and significant relationship with the readability of financial statements, which means that with increasing intellectual capital in companies, financial statements’ readability also increases. Based on the hypothesis test results, it has been determined that narcissism, accrual and real earnings management have a negative effect on the relationship between intellectual capital and the readability of financial statements. Originality/value Since the present study examines such an issue in emerging markets, it provides users, analysts and legal entities with useful information about management’s inherent and acquired characteristics that significantly impact the purchase of audit opinion. This study’s results also contribute to developing science and knowledge in this field and close the literature gap.

The paper investigates the impact of different factors on the establishment and development of social enterprises (SPs). The aim of this paper is to identify the key stimulants and restrictions of development of SPs in the Republic of Serbia, and to propose measures, the application of which can increase their long-term sustainability. The paper is based on exploratory research using data covering 27 interviews with founders of social enterprises in the Republic of Serbia. By applying the methods of regression analysis, it was found that favorable financial resources (especially grants) are the key stimulants for the establishment of social enterprises, while the enthusiasm of managers of social enterprises has the greatest impact on their development. It was found also that legal regulations and the macroeconomic environment, as well as difficulties in accessing the market, are serious restrictions on the establishment of social enterprises, while lack of knowledge in the field of marketing and management limit the development of social enterprises in the Republic of Serbia.

Digitalization and digital transformation processes pose chances and challenges to companies in a variety of different aspects. The present paper focuses on the digitalization of HR management in SMEs. The situation if discussed both in the light of SMEs, who are faced with unique challenges in terms of digitalization and its subsequent management. The role of the entrepreneurs/head of SMEs in driving the digitalization process is discussed. In a similar vein, the role HR departments can take both in their own digitalization and in the one of the company is displayed from various points of view, citing evidence that HR departments – especially of SMEs – often lag behind in terms of digitalization, thus not living up to their full potential as internal service partners of companies. An empirical study based on a quantitative survey explored these challenges further. A total of n = 16 experts from HR departments of German SMEs assessed the digital maturity of their own departments. The results show that – in accordance with the findings derived from the literature – HR departments are still struggling with digitalization, barely making use of their data and not connecting yet to other IT systems within the company. Most experts describe the role of their departments as reactive instead of active. These findings are discussed in the light of studies on digital maturity, showing that the situation in Germany/Central Europe for SMEs and their HR departments is a complex one: On the one hand it seems clear, that digitalization can help the companies and departments on a long-term perspective – which, according to some findings, is also well-known to the executives. At the same time, HR departments typically lack the (financial) resources and the involvement to actively work on their digital strategy.

The post-crisis period stressed the role of small, local banks in corporatelending, particularly for SME, due to such their advantages as being based onrelationship banking and extensive knowledge of local market. However, it isstill unclear whether it is a short or long-term advantage. The aim of this paper isto analyze the factors affecting the size and quality of the loan portfolios of thePolish cooperative banks. In the empirical part, the study is based on statisticaldata and panel research, based on individual balance sheet data for the banksaffiliated to the BPS SA. The results confirm that the role of cooperative banksin lending to businesses increases, but also pointed to internal diversity of thesector in this area: growth in loans to the corporate sector was particularly strongfor large banks with strong capital, but also resulted in their declining safety andincreasing bad loans portfolio.

Benchmarking is one of the methods of widespread use in practice and in management theory, benefiting from continuous development. This article intends to identify and analyze the perspective of benchmarking in romanian smes from the perspective of quality, cost, effectiveness, and customer satisfaction. The results show that for many romanian organizations, benchmarking is still a little overlooked, on the one hand because of the lack of necessary financial resources, on the other hand, of a poor awareness of the importance of these investments in the medium and long term.

ABSTRACTCandida albicansis a normal member of the gastrointestinal (GI) tract microbiota of healthy humans, but during host immunosuppression or alterations in the bacterial microbiota,C. albicanscan disseminate and cause life-threatening illness. The bacterial microbiome of the GI tract, including lactic acid bacteria (LAB), plays a vital role in preventing fungal invasion. However, little is known about the role ofC. albicansin shaping the bacterial microbiota during antibiotic recovery. We investigated the fungal burdens in the GI tracts of germfree mice and mice with a disturbed microbiome to demonstrate the role of the microbiota in preventingC. albicanscolonization. Histological analysis demonstrated that colonization withC. albicansduring antibiotic treatment does not trigger overt inflammation in the murine cecum. Bacterial diversity is reduced long term following cefoperazone treatment, but the presence ofC. albicansduring antibiotic recovery promoted the recovery of bacterial diversity. Cefoperazone diminishesBacteroidetespopulations long term in the ceca of mice, but the presence ofC. albicansduring cefoperazone recovery promotedBacteroidetespopulation recovery. However, the presence ofC. albicansresulted in a long-term reduction inLactobacillusspp. and promotedEnterococcus faecalispopulations. Previous studies have focused on the ability of bacteria to alterC. albicans; this study addresses the ability ofC. albicansto alter the bacterial microbiota during nonpathogenic colonization.

Human food intake is driven by necessity, but modern industrialized societies are characterized by food surfeit and an increasingly ‘obesogenic’ environment. This environment tends to discourage energy expenditure and to facilitate energy intake. The amount eaten in any given eating episode depends less on internal need state and more on environmental contextual factors such as the availability of highly-palatable energy-dense foods. In addition, the process of satiation can easily be disrupted by the introduction within a meal of different foods (variety effect), the presence of others (social context) and competing tasks (distraction). Properties of ingestants such as alcohol promote food intake and characteristics of individuals make them more or less susceptible to situational cues to overeat. In the present review the role of each of these environmental factors in promoting overconsumption are considered and the extent to which these factors might contribute to long-term weight regulation is discussed.
