Text Mining Using Twitter Data

The microblogging social networking service Twitter has been abuzz around the globe in the last decade. A number of allegations as well as exculpation of different types are being held against it. The list of pros and cons of social networks is huge. India on one hand had an abundance of internet access in last half of the decade. The growth of social media and its influence on people have affected the society in both good as well as in bad way. The following research was done in the month of September and October. The research was carried out on 13 lakh tweets approximately, collected over the course of a month from September to October providing insights about the different attributes of general tweets available on Twitter API for analysis. Insights include the hashtags, account mentions, sentiment, polarity, subject, and object of a tweet. The topics like Rhea Chakraborty and Sushant Singh Rajput, PM Narendra Modi's Birthday, IPL 2020 overshadowed the topics like COVID-19 and women's security.

This chapter focuses on a new business model in social networking, uses platform strategy to discuss possible business models, evaluates the optimal model for partnering with social networking service providers. This research develops a new revenue business model in social networking with a case study and discusses its potential monetization business model. The chapter reviews five business models including: 1) social media startups; 2) challenges social networks face: must monetize or die; 3) a case study of the new effective social business model – Facebook; 4) monetization: Facebook revenue and business model; and 5) a discussion of monetizing social networks: the four dominant business models and how you should implement them in the future. Through a comprehensive review, the chapter proposes a social media monetization model as the reference for firms to implement new business models of social networking.

This research paper deals with the influence and contribution of Social Media for the studies of students in universities of Pakistan. Detail review of literature is adopted as methodology of this paper. The main objective of this study is to highlight the pros and cons of using social media by the students and emphasize on the positive usages. Mixed results are found while analyses were made on the basis of literature reviewed. It is observed that the use of social media and specifically social networking websites does not always have negative impacts. There are also some positive insights those are detailed in the paper under study. If correctly analyzed and appropriate strategies are formulated and implemented for the use of social media; it will certainly bring improvements in the knowledge and study patterns of university students. It is observed that social networks are also being used by the research students. Therefore, this paper will also help support in the field of research.

With large social media platforms coming under increasing pressure to deplatform far-right users, the Alternative Technology movement (Alt-Tech) emerged as a new digital support infrastructure for the far right. We conduct a qualitative analysis of the prominent Alt-Tech platform Gab, a social networking service primarily modelled on Twitter, to assess the far-right virtual community on the platform. We find Gab’s technological affordances – including its lack of content moderation, culture of anonymity, microblogging architecture and funding model – have fostered an ideologically eclectic far-right community united by fears of persecution at the hands of ‘Big Tech’. We argue that this points to the emergence of a novel techno-social victimology as an axis of far-right virtual community, wherein shared experiences or fears of being deplatformed facilitate a coalescing of assorted far-right tendencies online.

Social networking users are presented with a plethora of profile and privacy settings; most of which are left defaulted. As a result, there is little understanding of the fields that make up the user profile, the privacy settings available to safeguard the user, and the ramifications of not changing the same. Concerns relating to the unprecedented quantities of Personally Identifiable Information being stored need to be addressed. By employing a risk matrix to a social media profile, a user could be alerted to the potential dangers of the information being contained within the profile. By adapting this tool, the risks to the individual user of a social media profile will be minimised.

Purpose: A Social Networking Site (also social networking service or social media) is a platform to make people connected and share anything about them. The purpose of this research to construct a framework for the Development of Social Networking Site Skill to help women in rural areas to face the growth of ICT. This paper discusses how the proposed framework can help them to develop their skills of marketing using the SNS. This kind of effort, hopefully could empower the targeted marginalized group with the knowledge of information engineering, increase their awareness and utilization of ICT in their everyday actions. Methodology: The data obtained are the result of on-going projects in Setiu Wetlands, Terengganu.  Community rural women in Setiu Wetlands are respondent for this study. A total of 30 people (identified as women entrepreneurs) were respondents and profile data was preliminary studies about the skills and existing ICT literacy and internet use. Main Findings: Based on profiling data that have been collected, a framework for the development of skills in using social media as a business medium has been developed. Implications/Applications: The framework developed is expected to produce successful entrepreneurs from rural women communities. The entrepreneur will be an example to other women. This effort also is expected to help rural women community can improve the living standards of their families.

In recent years, there is a rapid growth in online communication. There are many social networking sites and related mobile applications, and some more are still emerging. Huge amount of data is generated by these sites everyday and this data can be used as a source for various analysis purposes. Twitter is one of the most popular networking sites with millions of users. There are users with different views and varieties of reviews in the form of tweets are generated by them. Nowadays Opinion Mining has become an emerging topic of research due to lot of opinionated data available on Blogs & social networking sites. Tracking different types of opinions & summarizing them can provide valuable insight to different types of opinions to users who use Social networking sites to get reviews about any product, service or any topic. Analysis of opinions & its classification on the basis of polarity (positive, negative, neutral) is a challenging task. Lot of work has been done on sentiment analysis of twitter data and lot needs to be done. In this paper we discuss the levels, approaches of sentiment analysis, sentiment analysis of twitter data, existing tools available for sentiment analysis and the steps involved for same. Two approaches are discussed with an example which works on machine learning and lexicon based respectively.

Revolutionary development in field of communication and information technology have globally opened new avenue of marketing tourism and hospitality products. Major shift in web usage happened when Napster in 1999 released peer-to-peer share media and then with pioneer social networking websites named ‘Six Degrees'. This kind of interactive social web was named as ‘Web 2.0'. It would create openness, community and interaction. Web2. is also known as Social media base. Social media is incudes “all the different kinds of content that form social networks: posts on blogs or forums, photos, audio, videos, links, profiles on social networking web sites, status updates and more”. It allows people to create; upload post and share content easily and share globally. Social media allows the creation and exchange of user-generated content and experiences online. Thus, social media is any kind of information we share with our social network, using social networking web sites and services.

The growth of Online Social Networking sites has brought new services and communication methods to consumers. However, along with benefits, serious problems such as online cyber harassment have recently come to the forefront of the electronic media. This behavior can have significant negative effect on individuals, businesses and the social networks. Some sites have begun to provide some levels of protection and create specific anti-harassment policies in their terms of service along with implementing protection technologies. However, these protective measures are not consistent among social media, leaving some consumers at greater risk. This study analyzed 60 worldwide social sites and determined the level of cyber-harassment protection. It reviewed statistical differences among geographical-based social networks. The results showed significant gaps among various social networks, but suggests methods for improving consumer safeguards to provide consistent levels of protection.

Across developing countries, the role of social networks and social capital in facilitating women's access to income is well documented. However, less is known about how networks facilitated by social networking sites (SNS) may transform women's economic opportunities in these regions. In this chapter, I draw upon a relatively recent phenomenon of the use of SNS as a medium of trade in urban Indonesia. In 2010, I conducted preliminary interviews to examine the dynamics of Facebook-facilitated trade among urban middle-class married women residing in Jakarta, the capital of Indonesia. The interviews highlighted beneficial links between social media, social capital, and productivity – by means of increased personal income. However, this effective link between SNS and income-generating social capital is likely to be a rather distinctive example, as it depends largely on the class, gender, and cultural specificities that shape the nature of online and offline social interactions among my target group.
