Support Process Aligned With a Maintenance Management Model

Most companies focus their thinking on the production system's assets, those that generate profits, and rarely look to the periphery, to the enabling systems, those that carry out the effort in order that the production department can continue to do its job, those that provide the “support” to the system. What is “supportability”? It is not a widespread term; it is in fact associated to “maintenance logistics,” and this is only the simplest of its meanings, when in reality it crosses horizontally the whole organization, it is transversal to the MGM model, and it is present in all of the phases of assets and systems' life cycle. Throughout the chapter, different concepts will be developed to show how support is integrated into the proposed maintenance management model (MMM) at each stage of the asset life cycle and how it impacts their costs.

The chapter explains in detail the maintenance management model (MMM) taken as a reference for the development of the book. The chapter is based on the eight phases of the MMM. The first three blocks determine the effectiveness of the management; the following blocks assure the same efficiency and continuous improvement in the following way: Blocks 4 and 5 include actions for the planning and scheduling of maintenance, including, of course, the capacity of planning of department of maintenance. Blocks 6 and 7 are dedicated to the evaluation and control of the maintenance and the cost of assets throughout their life cycle. This chapter of introduction briefly summarizes the process and the reference frame necessary for the implementation of the MMM. This chapter also presents the relationship between the eight phases of the maintenance management model proposed and the general requirements of the asset management standard ISO 55000 to show how the gradual implementation of the MMM largely covers the requirements of the standard ISO 55000.

Abstract Background This study aims to explore the information chain management model of large instrument and equipment inter-working in the operating room (OR) led by information nurses. Methods Through the chain management process of large instruments and equipment in the OR, which was based on information nurses, the management model of inter-working and integrating information chain was established, the key links were controlled, and the whole life cycle management of instruments and equipment from expected procurement to scrapping treatment was realized. Using the cluster sampling method, 1562 surgical patients were selected. Among these patients, 749 patients were assigned to the control group before the running mode, and 813 patients were assigned to the observation group after the running mode. The related indexes for large instrument and equipment management in the department before and after the running mode were compared. Results In the observation group, the average time of equipment registration was (22.05 ± 2.36), the cost was reduced by 2220 yuan/year, and the satisfaction rate of the nursing staff was 97.62%. These were significantly better, when compared to the control group (P < 0.05). Furthermore, the awareness rate of the whole staff for equipment repair application was 95.12%, and the arrival time of maintenance personnel and the examination and approval time of equipment management were greatly shortened (P < 0.05). Conclusion The integrated management model of large instrument and equipment interworking in the OR based on chain flow realizes the whole life cycle management of instruments and equipment, which is essential to improve management efficiency.

The purpose of this paper is the development of a methodical approach to management of the parameters of the life cycle of innovations. This approach ensures the increase of the efficiency of economic activity by intensifying the processes of innovative development of industrial enterprises. As a result of the research, the features of the processes for implementing the life cycle of innovations were determined; the system of criteria for assessing the efficiency of management of the parameters of the life cycle of innovations was developed; a management model for the parameters of the life cycle of innovations was formed; and a management mechanism for the life cycle of innovations in a saturated market was developed.

ABSTRACT This paper presents the results of a study conducted to determine whether unit-oriented construction drawings, which are being developed and used by shipbuilders using modern zone-oriented, or modular, construction techniques, will satisfactorily substitute for system-oriented detailed arrangement drawings in the Navy's life-cycle maintenance management process. The study concluded that modular construction drawings will provide the necessary data in a more usable format, and thus are the preferred approach for the Navy's use. However, the study also identified several additionally needed features that are not now being provided in unit-oriented drawings, but which must be included in order to meet the needs of planning and maintenance activities during the operational life of a ship. A number of other observations about drawing use and maintenance are provided.


Models are expected to present near real life situations and possible effects on the deliverables based on given input environment. However, models do not necessarily indicate the true solutions and provide scope to work on them incrementally. As discussed earlier, organizations may not follow similar paths to acquire IT and may not even derive desired results despite adopting one. This chapter considers it important to include IS as critical input to managing IT acquisition life cycles and delves further into the IT life cycle management principles to conceptualize a model to specific contributions to assess organizational preparedness for IT acquisitions. This model largely includes discussions on IS centric models and argues in favour of assessing the preparedness across three phases, pre-acquisition, acquisition, and post-acquisition. Each phase considers specific inputs with expected deliverables for successful assessment of the preparedness of the organization in that phase.

The objective of this article is a way of working that is used as an instrument for managing the parts with semantic and conceptual elements, such as mastery of management projects, and the effects of ontological engineering techniques, which solves frequently asked questions with respect to information related to this resource. This is done in an agile, precise, and effective way, facilitating its management in the phases that make up the life cycle of the project. The research will contribute to the integration of ontological engineering and project management, enabling the construction of a stakeholder information structure with semantic components that enable it to be the input of a more complex knowledge management model.

Purpose The purpose of this paper is to provide a picture of the maintenance management status in a sample of Moroccan industries through highlighting the most impacting factors. A preliminary framework of a maintenance management model is proposed on the basis of the study findings. Design/methodology/approach A mixed methods research (MMR), including qualitative and quantitative independent studies, was conducted in a sample of Moroccan industries. The process of collecting data involved submission of questionnaires to industrial managers and on-site visits. Analyzing case studies and correlations between maintenance factors were used to define the status of maintenance management. The preliminary framework of a maintenance management model was presented through a basic graph. Findings The surveyed companies have three levels of maintenance management: inner, medium and good. The most impacting maintenance factors include the top management policy and maintenance department approach. Most of the companies surveyed do not have an overall maintenance model, as most of decisions are based on random factors rather than the data analysis approach. The preliminary framework of maintenance management model involves the main factors with recommendations to improve maintenance management performance. Research limitations/implications The sample in this study is limited to seven companies in the qualitative study and thirty-one companies in the quantitative study. The informants are the industrial managers of those companies. In order to apply this maintenance model in industry, an advanced version of this model is to be developed through providing key performance indicators (KPI) and an implementation process for each factor, including other participants in the companies from top management and operational levels. Practical implications The study may contribute to assess maintenance management and to develop a framework of maintenance management models in industries, especially when no previous basic study was conducted in a specific context. Originality/value The original contribution of this paper is using MMR to develop a preliminary framework of a maintenance management model. This methodology aims to narrow the gap between academic studies and maintenance management in industries.
