Teaching during a pandemic has been a challenge. There were so many unknowns and much confusion. Many teachers around the globe asked themselves, “How will I engage students?” “Will I be able to build a community of learners?” “Where do I even begin?” One approach is using creative pedagogy to engage students to explore, problem solve, and promote social interactions with fourth grade students. This chapter will provide insights on how to captivate elementary school students during virtual learning.

The implementation of the newest curriculum (Curriculum 2013) leads some elementary schools to finally exclude English from the schools subjects. However, some elementary schools that keep teaching English as a subject still cannot provide appropriate English teaching media, especially to teach vocabulary. In this study, the researchers aimed to know the problems faced by the English teacher and the fourth grade students of SD N 2 Sekaran in the vocabulary teaching and learning, and also to know how to develop teaching media of Kangaroo Smart Frieze. The Research and Development (R & D) approach was adopted by conducting the preliminary survey, designing and developing the prototype of the product, conducting limited testing and product validation, having a revision process and describing the research result. The subjects of the study were the fourth grade students of SDN 2 Sekaran in the academic year of 2013/2014. The instruments used were questionnaires, interview guideline and test. According to the interview to the English teacher and students, it can be concluded that the vocabulary teaching media of Kangaroo Smart frieze needs to be developed with the focus on the quality of the media and also the variety of games played. The development of Kangaroo Smart Frieze was started by observing and interviewing the English teacher and students. After doing that, the process was continued by planning the data collecting instrument of vocabulary teaching media. The main consideration was based on the English curriculum (syllabus) of the fourth grade students of elementary school and also some related theories. Moreover, the data collecting instrument was arranged into two main parts which included the need analysis of the students and English teacher. The further step was designing the prototype. The development process was then followed by other steps; product validation, try-out (limited testing) and revision of Kangaroo Smart Frieze. The results of the students’ test by using Kangaroo Smart Frieze as the vocabulary teaching media, and also the assessment from the experts were very good. Therefore, it could be concluded that Kangaroo Smart Frieze has a good prospect to be used in the vocabulary teaching and learning process. As suggestion, the teachers should always try to choose appropriate vocabulary teaching media, and the future researchers should conduct better research and development to develop better vocabulary teaching media for elementary school students.

The implementation of the Minimum Competency Assessment (AKM) which will be held at the school education level, especially at the elementary school level requires preparation in order to carry it out. One of the components that must be prepared is from the students. The readiness of students in this case is seen as very important because as a subject that will be tested in the implementation of the Minimum Competency Assessment (AKM). The basic competencies that are tested on students are divided into two main components, namely reading literacy and numeracy. In the Numerical Minimum Competency Assessment (AKM), one of the materials tested is geometry. This study discusses the analysis of the ability of fourth grade elementary school students in solving geometry problems in the Numeration Minimum Competency Assessment (AKM). This study aims to see and describe the ability of fourth grade elementary school students in solving geometry problems in the Numeration Minimum Competency Assessment (AKM) in terms of the quality of student responses based on the results of students' completeness in completing tests and interviews. This study uses a qualitative description method. Data were obtained from the results of tests and interviews with fourth grade students in the neighborhood of RT 04 Pasirjaya, Tasikmalaya City. There is 1 grade IV student who is the subject of this research. The results of this study indicate that the student's ability to solve geometry problems in the Numeration Minimum Competence Assessment (AKM) is still low, with a percentage of 17.65%.

Learning science in elementary schools encourages students to understand the natural environment more deeply, rationally, and scientifically. However, often the scientific concepts they believe about science topics are not in accordance with the scientific concepts they should be. This misconception is difficult for teachers to diagnose. Special instruments to identify and analyze students' misconceptions are needed. Therefore, this research aims to analyze the misconceptions of elementary school students on the topic of energy using a four-tier diagnostic instrument. The purposed-designed survey method was used in this study. The data were analyzed quantitatively and qualitatively. The participants in this study were 20 fourth grade students in an elementary school in Ciamis Regency. A total of 6 questions in the form of a four-tier diagnostic instrument were used to determine the level of students' conceptions. The results showed that the students have misconceptions about the concept of energy. This can be seen from the average percentage of students' misconceptions of 66.67%. This research is expected to contribute to alternative ways to identify and analyze students' misconceptions using the four-tier diagnostic instrument. In addition, it can be used as a reference for teachers and researchers related to the problem of misconceptions of science in elementary school students

Factual conditions require the development of teaching materials in thematic learning using a scientific approach to improve the available teaching materials. This study aims to: 1) examine the factual conditions for the use of teaching materials in thematic learning in the 2013 curriculum; 2) knowing the development of scientific based thematic teaching materials for fourth grade elementary students; 3) knowing expert judgment on the feasibility of scientific-based thematic teaching materials for fourth grade elementary students; 4) knowing the effect of the use of scientifically based thematic teaching materials on the learning achievement of fourth grade elementary school students; 5) knowing the teacher's assessment of learning using thematically based thematic teaching materials for grade IV elementary school students; 6) knowing the response of students to learning using thematically based thematic teaching materials for fourth grade elementary school students. This study uses Development Research with qualitative and quantitative research designs. The development process uses the 4-D model of Thiagarajan, Semel and Semel which has been modified to be the stage of defining, designing, and developing. Teaching materials that have been validated by experts get the category of "very valid and without revision" from expert responses and teacher evaluations with agreed criteria, student responses to the use of teaching materials in learning get very good responses from students. The results of the trials using the experimental design The Before And After Design show that there is an effect of the use of scientifically based thematic teaching materials on the learning achievement of PPKn; 2) there is the influence of the use of scientifically based thematic teaching materials on social studies learning achievements; 3) there is the influence of the use of scientifically based thematic teaching materials on the learning achievement of science. Scientific based thematic teaching materials for Grade IV Primary School students can be used in learning.
