Web technologies are changing old patterns of learning. Online learning is simultaneously a tool and a challenge in improving our learning process because working online is a fundamental competence for today's society. Rethinking needs and course design for online learning to be applied to all subjects at all levels (digital natives and digital immigrants as well) is, maybe, the biggest challenge in education. It is necessary to give teachers adequate training to teach using technologies in a way that supports specific pedagogical mode. Online learning for adult learners has both advantages and disadvantages. Research into online learning is an emerging field and all of this information has practical implication for design and tutoring online activities in the case of adult learners.

Members of the knowledge society, of the network society or of the informatics society are some names that seem to define the current generation. Net generation is a generic nomenclature which covers all the previous terms. Digital immigrants are the subjects whom were born before the advent of digital technologies and who joined to them. Digital natives are the subjects whom were born in the current generation and that would have special qualities, especially regarding the learning process. Considering all this context, a question arises: how the digital immigrants teach the digital natives? This item justifies itself because there is a meeting of generations, in theory, significantly differentiated. Due to this, it would be necessary to identify the appropriate educational forms according to the presented situation. Our teaching experience convinces us that, yes, we should valorize the information’s technologies and communication, understanding that these are means, not ends. It is important to highlight that any tool causes advances and regressions, a fact that serves to guide our teaching practice.

Distance educational courses and programs, either fully online or hybrid, have been a major contributing factor in the shift that is felt in the academic landscape which now offers a variety of instructional modes, welcomes adult and non traditional learners, and offers a wider variety of curricular offerings reflecting current market trends. While a high percentage of students take classes online, adult learners particularly benefit from the flexibility and accessibility offered by online education. Yet, adult learners are more likely to be intimidated because of their lack of familiarity with this new learning paradigm. This chapter examines online and adult learners programming as well as strategies to address their needs, and presents the results of an evaluation that examined the effectiveness of an Online Adult Learner-Focused Program. The results of the study found various levels of student satisfaction with online adult learner-focused courses and as it relates to meeting the objectives of the program. Implications and recommendations for instructors, program coordinators and administrators are also discussed.

This paper reports on the awareness and usage of online learning resources in teaching and learning among the academic staff at a public university in Malaysia. In addition, the advantages and disadvantages of online learning resources are also presented. Online learning resources recommended by the management of the university include e-learning modules, Open Courseware (OCW), Massive Open Online Courses (MOOC), BLOSSOMS, Edutainment and Video of Exemplary Professionals. Data were collected using a survey questionnaire with Likert scale items and open-ended questions. The questionnaires were distributed to 160 academic staff of the university. The results show that the most attended training was e-learning and most respondents are currently implementing it in their courses. However, less than 10% of the respondents implemented the OCW, MOOC, BLOSSOMS and Edutainment. About 23.1% of the respondents implemented Video of Exemplary Professionals in their teaching and learning. Some respondents also reported lack of student participation in using e-learning and other resources due to system instability. The practical implication of this study is that more training on new online learning resources should be provided to the academic staff to increase their skills in using the online learning resources in their teaching. Better internet connection is also necessary to boost the use of these resources.
