Essentially, the purpose of investment in information systems and information technology (IS/IT) is to improve the operational efficiency of the organizations, reducing costs and improving levels of quality. Thus, many traditional appraisal techniques are used to evaluate tangible benefits, which are based on direct project costs. Since the 1980s, IS/IT has positioned itself as a strategic tool that through flexibility and innovative ways can produce superior performance. The health sector has sought to improve its effectiveness and efficiency by adopting IS/IT solutions to increase the quality of services, namely patient safety, organizational efficiency, and end-user satisfaction. Hospitals are complex organizations, and this complexity magnifies the opportunity for inevitable human errors. A poorly integrated system can decrease operational efficiency and reduce the quality of healthcare services. The issue remains controversial, as evidenced by several articles. The authors noticed that emergent technologies may offer opportunities to those who can exploit them effectively.

The Internet of Things (IoT) has enormous potential in creating the value of life related to technology. IoT has various application domains, including in the health sector. IoT-based healthcare services are expected to reduce costs, improve quality of life, and enrich user experience. The presence of IoT devices for healthcare services can also avoid unnecessary hospitalization and ensure that patients who need health services get it quickly. This paper surveys advances in IoT-based health care technology and reviews the latest architectures / platforms, platforms, applications and industry trends in IoT-based healthcare solutions. Some IoT devices and prototypes in the healthcare field are also discussed in this paper. Through this paper, it is expected that readers can be known and discuss IoT devices in the healthcare sector.

Abstract. The state of standardization of healthcare services to the population of Ukraine has to be critically analyzed and compared with the basic European recommendations on methodology. Since the standardization of healthcare services usually takes place under complex national conditions and is a component of the quality management system, we aimed to determine whether the methodology for standardizing healthcare services in Ukraine is consistent with the methods used in countries with strong economies. Aim: to determine whether the implementation and development of the methodology for standardizing healthcare services to the population of Ukraine corresponds to the approaches in the European Union, and to substantiate promising directions for improving the standardization of healthcare services to the population of Ukraine at the turn of 2020. Materials and methods. A historical analysis of the normative documents that currently define the methodology of standardization of healthcare services in Ukraine and their comparative analysis with the EU acquis in health care have been carried out. Results and discussion. Since the main responsibility for improving the quality of healthcare services belongs to government institutions, the common documents of the European Union on this issue are recommendative in nature. At the same time, a comparative analysis made it possible to identify the main achievements and gaps in the methodological support of standardization in the healthcare sector in Ukraine, to substantiate the directions for improving the standardization of healthcare services to the population of Ukraine at the turn of 2020. Conclusion. At the beginning of 2020, the methodology for standardizing healthcare services in Ukraine partially corresponds to the approaches typical of the European Union. At the present stage, improving the quality of healthcare services in Ukraine requires strengthening the accountability of government agencies, improving the procedure for implementing and updating health standards in accordance with existing data, establishing a connection between the quality criteria of healthcare services, the drug formulary and the list of available equipment based on a single evidence base and a single conceptual and terminological thesaurus, monitoring the compliance with standards and tariffs for medical (pharmaceutical) services through pilot implementation, monitoring of clinical indicators. The progress in these areas is possible providing that the methodology of evidence-based medicine is followed, with the broad involvement of healthcare professionals and healthcare service receivers.

Ahmedabad Municipal Corporation (AMC) in the state of Gujarat, India looks after the basic needs of its four million citizens. AMC offers primary, secondary, and tertiary healthcare services at subsidized rates. The load on AMC tertiary healthcare hospitals has been increasing rapidly, stretching the hospital resources beyond limits. Insufficient resources at these hospitals call for increased allocation of AMC funds to provide a satisfactory level of service. However, AMC is unable to allocate a larger share of its finances to the health sector owing to similar demand from other sectors. AMC authorities are therefore concerned about their ability to offer quality healthcare services at subsidized rates. In this paper, we describe a few e-Gov. applications to address and resolve the issues related to costs, revenues, subsidy, and the quality of services, so that AMC can meet its social obligations in the health sector satisfactorily. Some of our recommendations have been already implemented, while others are under consideration.

Corruption is pervasive in Nigeria at all levels. Thus, despite recent gains in healthcare provision, the health sector faces numerous corruption related challenges. This study aims at examining areas of corruption in the health sector with specific focus on its types and nature. A sample size of 480 respondents aged 18 years and above was drawn from the eight Metropolitan Local Government Areas of Kano State, using the multistage sampling technique. The results revealed evidence of corrupt practices including those related to unnecessary-absenteeism, diversion of patients from the public health facilities to the private sector, diverting money meant for the purchase of equipment, fuel and diesel, bribery, stealing of medications, fraud, misappropriation of medications and unjustifiable reimbursement claims. In order to resolve the problem of corrupt practices in the healthcare sector, the study recommended the need for enforcement of appropriate code of ethics guiding the conduct of the health professionals, adoption of anti-corruption strategies, and strengthening the government monitoring system to check corruption in public health sector in order to ensure equitable access to healthcare services among the under-privileged people in the society.

Objective: It is unknown whether patients’ ratings of the quality of healthcare services they receive truly correlate with the quality of care from their providers. Understanding this association can potentiate improvement in healthcare delivery. We evaluated the association between patients’ ratings of the quality of healthcare services received and uptake of colorectal cancer (CRC) screening. Subject and Methods: We used two iterations of the Health Information National Trends Survey (HINTS) of adults in the United States. HINTS 2007 (4,007 respondents; weighted population=75,397,128) evaluated whether respondents were up-to-date with CRC screening while HINTS 4 cycle 3 (1,562 respondents; weighted population=76,628,000) evaluated whether participants had ever received CRC screening in the past. All included respondents from both surveys were at least 50 years of age, had no history of CRC, and had rated the quality of healthcare services that they had received at their healthcare provider’s office in the previous 12 months. Results: HINTS 2007 data showed that respondents who rated their healthcare as good, or fair/poor were significantly less likely to be up to date with CRC screening compared to those who rated their healthcare as excellent. We found comparable results from analysis of HINTS 4 cycle 3 data with poorer uptake of CRC screening as the healthcare quality ratings of respondents’ reduced. Conclusion: Our study suggested that patients who reported receiving lower quality of healthcare services were less likely to have undergone and be compliant with CRC screening recommendations. It is important to pay close attention to patient feedback surveys in order to improve healthcare delivery.

The presence of healthcare facilities is quite essential to provide good healthcare services in a particular area, however, the existence of healthcare facilities is not evenly distributed in Cianjur Regency. This condition leads to the disparities of healthcare facilities across the Cianjur Regency. In this paper, we aim to measure and map the spatial disparities of healthcare facilities using a Two-Step Floating Catchment Analysis (2SFCA). This method can calculate the magnitude of spatial accessibility for healthcare facilities by formulating the travel time threshold and the quality of healthcare facilities across the study area. This research shows the result that the spatial accessibility of healthcare facilities in the Cianjur Regency is not evenly distributed across the districts. The spatial accessibility value resulted from 2SFCA is ranging from 0- 3.97. A low value indicates low spatial accessibility, while a higher value shows good accessibility. The majority of districts in the Cianjur Regency have the spatial accessibility value 0-0.5 (86%). Meanwhile, only a few have the higher value; value 0.5-0.99 as much as 6.6%, 0.99-1.49 as 3.3%, and 3.48-3.97 has a percentage of 3.3%. Also, this analysis results in the cluster of good spatial accessibility in healthcare facilities, namely the Pagelaran District and Cipanas District. Interestingly, the downtown of Cianjur Regency has lower spatial accessibility compared to both areas.


The aim of this study is to evaluate the gender perceptions of women working in the health sector. The study was conducted questionnaire method in private health institutions determined by researchers in Istanbul and Ankara. Demographic data were obtained by means of a questionnaire, t-Test and One-Way ANOVA tests were performed. As a result of the research, it was determined that the opinions of the women working in the health sector were not only in the decision of the men in the decisions taken in the family; there is no discrimination between men, girls, and boys.
