Generally, the power systems are mainly effected by the continuous changes in operational requirement and increasing amount of distributed energy systems. This paper proposes a new concept of power-control strategies for a micro grid generation system for better transfer of power. The micro grids are obtained with the general renewable energy sources and this concept provides the maximum utilization of power at environmental free conditions with low losses; then the system efficiency is also improved. This paper proposes a single stage converter based micro grid to reduce the number of converters in an individual ac or dc grid. The proposed micro grid concept can work in both stand-alone mode and also in grid interfaced mode. The distortions that occur in power system due to changes in load or because of usage of non-linear loads, can be eliminated by using control strategies designed for shunt active hybrid filters such as series and shunt converters. A conventional Proportional Integral (PI) and Fuzzy Logic Controllers are used for power quality enhancement by reducing the distortions in the output power. The simulation results are compared among the two control strategies, that fuzzy logic controller and pi controller.

Abstract Severe power quality problems can arise when a large number of single-phase distributed energy resources (DERs) are connected to a low-voltage power distribution system. Due to the random location and size of DERs, it may so happen that a particular phase generates excess power than its load demand. In such an event, the excess power will be fed back to the distribution substation and will eventually find its way to the transmission network, causing undesirable voltage–current unbalance. As a solution to this problem, the article proposes the use of a distribution static compensator (DSTATCOM), which regulates voltage at the point of common coupling (PCC), thereby ensuring balanced current flow from and to the distribution substation. Additionally, this device can also support the distribution network in the absence of the utility connection, making the distribution system work as a microgrid. The proposals are validated through extensive digital computer simulation studies using PSCADTM.

Abstract: Scheduling plans of running a large, traditional power grid often distribute power resources in each small system. And they didn’t take the scope of scheduling operation within the power distribution system into consideration. With the trend separate transmission and distribution, the number of distributed generators that installed is growing rapidly. More and more micro-grid network composed of low-voltage distribution power network are formed. With effective regulation, this system can satisfy local load demand and support networking. The establishment of mechanisms such as AGC support services, with be vital to insure the power quality and reliability. Keywords: distributing power Micro-Grid DG AGC

A primary and necessary focus in creating a greener environment is the conversion of existing power-generation sources to renewable power sources in the near future. Another important focus is to develop sustainable household power generation to a low-voltage electricity grid with a power purchase and selling facility. To help with achieving the above vision, the objective of this work is to critically analyze the existing low-voltage distribution system and make suggestions for restructuring it to the low-voltage interconnected microgrid (MG). The test was carried out in the Tamil Nadu Electricity Board (TNEB) 100kVA transformer feeder which was connected to supply around 100 houses with electricity. The performance analysis of the proposed system was examined through different case studies, represented as a normal operating condition of the existing distribution system and a reconstructed and interconnected MG to the TNEB grid. The project was designed and analyzed using PSCAD software. The results discussed in the project are helpful in examining the effects of multiple distributed energy resources on distributed generation. In future, knowledge of these effects may be helpful for rural area electrification.

Islanding detection of Distributed Generation (DG) is considered as one of the most important aspects when interconnecting DGs to the distribution system. It was the crucial problem in distributed generation. This detection phenomenon having a great importance. These detection methods are divided into active and passive islanding detection. These two methods are based on changing in parameters such as frequency, voltage and current harmonics. But these methods have some challenges such as reduction in power quality and large Non Detection Zone (NDZ). In this paper, the proposed method is change of Total harmonic distortion (THD) will be studied for islanding detection diagnosis. The studied system was considered by following the standard IEEE-1547 and UL-1741.The system was simulated using MATLAB/ SIMULINK.

The issue of unintentional islanding in grid interconnection still remains a challenge in grid-connected, Distributed Generation System (DGS). This study discusses the general overview of popular islanding detection methods. Because of the various Distributed Generation (DG) types, their sizes connected to the distribution networks, and, due to the concern associated with out-of-phase reclosing, anti-islanding continues to be an issue, where no clear solution exists. The passive islanding detection technique is the simplest method to detect the islanding condition which compares the existing parameters of the system having some threshold values. This study first presents an auto-ground approach, which is based on the application of three-phase, short-circuit to the islanded distribution system just to reclose and re-energize the system. After that, the data mining-decision tree algorithm is implemented on a typical distribution system with multiple DGs. The results from both of the techniques have been accomplished and verified by determining the Non-Detection Zone (NDZ), which satisfies the IEEE standards of 2 s execution time. From the analysis, it is concluded that the decision tree approach is effective and highly accurate to detect the islanding state in DGs. These simulations in detail compare the old and new methods, clearly highlighting the progress in the field of islanding detection.

The microgrid includes a distribution system with low voltage, controllable load, and distributed energy resources (DER). The DERs have been increased in the recent power network to address global environmental concerns, which creates challenges in faults, synchronization, inertia control, etc. As the technologies are getting advanced day by day, the past technology becomes obsolete. The internet of things (IoT) and artificial intelligence (AI) are the most discussed topics to obtain solutions for the challenges. One of the proposed solutions is adaptive overcurrent protection, as it can be used for any grid. In this paper, an algorithm is developed for the adaptive overcurrent relay protection to overcome the challenges of the microgrid with distributed energy resources. Then, the solutions obtained from the adaptive overcurrent protection algorithm network simulation are compared to the traditional overcurrent protection algorithm using the four key points such as selectivity, reliability, sensitivity, and speed to have a good performance in the power network. All the simulation studies are done in the electrical transient analyzer program (ETAP) software environment. Simulation results validate the performance of the proposed algorithm for adaptive protection using the IEEE-9 bus system with a microgrid.

The local supply and supply scheme called micro grid will become a significant chance due to the latest development of small scale distributed generators such as OV on demand side. Renewable energy structure has been far reaching due to ecological demands. The essence of the structure for renewable energy is very efficient in using distributed generation within the structure of the power scheme. The low voltage DC distribution system is becoming essential as the amount of DC applications is increasing in our regular needs. Power provided through the AC distribution mechanism of low voltage requires both AC/DC converter to delivers the DC batteries. MGs would be fitted battery like energy storage devices. Since PVs and batteries primarily operates through DC, it is possible to emphasize the benefit of the DC distribution scheme over AC production. This article recommends an ideal MG layout including AC and DC distribution device choice. This article also describes qualitatively the benefit of micro grid with DC production, termed as DCMG through housing client studies assuming different kinds of home appliances.
