In the region of Siesławice (near Busko-Zdrój, Poland) there are unique phenomena of gypsum karst. Atmospheric factors caused numerous gypsum outcrops, canals and underground voids. The article presents the possibility of using non-invasive gravimetric surveys supplemented with geodetic measurements to illustrate karst changes occurring around the void. The use of modern geodetic measurement techniques including terrestrial and airborne laser scanning enables to generate a digital terrain model and a three-dimensional model of voids. Gravimetric field studies allowed to map the anomalies of the gravitational field of the near-surface zone. Geodetic measurement results have made it possible to accurately determine the terrain correction that supplemented the gravimetric anomaly information. Geophysical interpretation indicate the presence of weathered rocks in the near surface zone and fractures and loosened zones located surround the karst cave.

This paper presented 3D reconstruction method for road scene with the help of obstacle detection. 3D reconstruction for road scene can be used in autonomous driving, driver assistance system, car navigation systems. However, some errors often rose when 3D reconstructing due to the shade from the moving object in the road scene. The presented 3D reconstruction method with obstacle detection feedback can avoid this problem. Firstly, this paper offers a framework for the 3D reconstruction of road scene by laser scanning and vision. A calibration method based on the location of horizon is proposed, and a method of attitude angle measuring based on vanishing point is proposed to revise the 3D reconstruction result. Secondly, the reconstruction framework is extended by integrating with an object recognition that can automatically detect and discriminate obstacles in the input video streams by a RANSAC approach and threshold filter, and localizes them in the 3D model. 3D reconstruction and obstacle detection are tightly integrated and benefit from each other. The experiment result verified the feasibility and practicability of the proposed method.

Abstract. This study aims to introduce triangulation and ToF measurement techniques used in three-dimensional modelling of cultural heritages. These measurement techniques are traditional photogrammetry, SfM approach, laser scanning and time-of-flight camera. The computer based approach to photogrammetric measurement that is named SfM creates dense point cloud data in a short time. It is low-cost and very easy to application. However traditional photogrammetry needs a huge effort for creating 3D wire-frame model. On the other hand active measurement techniques such as terrestrial laser scanner and time-of-flight camera have also been used in three-dimensional modelling for more than twenty years. Each one has specific accuracy and measurement effectiveness. The large or small structures have different characters, and require proper measurement configurations. In this study, after these methods are introduced, their superior and weak properties in cultural heritage modelling to make high accuracy, high density and labour and cost effective measurement.

Flower plants have become a major difficulty in virtual plant research because of their rich external morphological structure and complex physiological processes. Computer vision simulation provides powerful tools for exploring powerful biological systems and operating laws. In this paper, Chrysanthemum and Chinese rose, double flowers as the symbolic flowers of Beijing, are chosen as the study subject. On the basis of maximizing the protection of flower growth structure, an effective method based on laser scanning for three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction and visual simulation of flower plants is proposed. This method uses laser technology to scan the sample and store it as point cloud data. After applying a series of image analysis and processing techniques such as splicing, denoising, repairing and color correction, the digital data optimized by the sample is obtained accurately and efficiently, and a highly realistic 3D simulation model of the plant is formed. The results of the research indicate that it is a convenient research method for the 3D reconstruction of flower plants and computer vision simulation of virtual plants. It also provides an effective way for in-depth study of scientific experiments and digital protection of rare and endangered plants.

Human face three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction is a challenging problem. In this paper, we propose a human face fast- 3D- reconstruction method based on image processing with a single image. Shape from shading (SFS) is chosen to reconstruct the human face. First, SFS theory is introduced. It has the advantage of fast 3D reconstruction and only need a single image. Secondly, because the noise will affect the 3D reconstruction result greatly, wavelet transform and wavelet packet transform are introduced and used in image denoising respectively. The experiment has shown that the method based on wavelet transform produces the best denoising result than wavelet packet transform. At last, a human face 3D reconstruction algorithm based on a single image is proposed. The experimental results show that a human face 3D model can be reconstructed in fast by proposed algorithm.

AbstractWhen biological specimens are cut into physical sections for three-dimensional (3D) imaging by confocal laser scanning microscopy, the slices may get distorted or ruptured. For subsequent 3D reconstruction, images from different physical sections need to be spatially aligned by optimization of a function composed of a data fidelity term evaluating similarity between the reference and target images, and a regularization term enforcing transformation smoothness. A regularization term evaluating the total variation (TV), which enables the registration algorithm to account for discontinuities in slice deformation (ruptures), while enforcing smoothness on continuously deformed regions, was proposed previously. The function with TV regularization was optimized using a graph-cut (GC) based iterative solution. However, GC may generate visible registration artifacts, which impair the 3D reconstruction. We present an alternative, multilabel TV optimization algorithm, which in the examined samples prevents the artifacts produced by GC. The algorithm is slower than GC but can be sped up several times when implemented in a multiprocessor computing environment. For image pairs with uneven brightness distribution, we introduce a reformulation of the TV-based registration, in which intensity-based data terms are replaced by comparison of salient features in the reference and target images quantified by local image entropies.

This paper presents a measurement method of bridge vibration based on three-dimensional (3D) reconstruction. A video of bridge model vibration is recorded by an unmanned aerial vehicle (UAV), and the displacement of target points on the bridge model is tracked by the digital image correlation (DIC) method. Due to the UAV motion, the DIC-tracked displacement of the bridge model includes the absolute displacement caused by the excitation and the false displacement induced by the UAV motion. Therefore, the UAV motion must be corrected to measure the real displacement. Using four corner points on a fixed object plane as the reference points, the projection matrix for each frame of images can be estimated by the UAV camera calibration, and then the 3D world coordinates of the target points on the bridge model can be recovered. After that, the real displacement of the target points can be obtained. To verify the correctness of the results, the operational modal analysis (OMA) method is used to extract the natural frequencies of the bridge model. The results show that the first natural frequency obtained from the proposed method is consistent with the one obtained from the homography-based method. By further comparing with the homography-based correction method, it is found that the 3D reconstruction method can effectively overcome the limitation of the homography-based method that the fixed reference points and the target points must be coplanar.

<p><strong>Abstract.</strong> In September 2018, photogrammetric images and terrestrial laser scans were carried out as part of a measurement campaign for the three-dimensional recording of several historic churches in Tbilisi (Georgia). The aim was the complete spatial reconstruction with a spatial resolution and accuracy of approx. 1cm under partly difficult external conditions, which required the use of different measurement techniques.</p><p>The local measurement data were collected by two laser scanning campaigns (Leica BLK360 and Faro Focus 3D X330), two UAV flights and two terrestrial image sets. The photogrammetric point clouds were calculated with the SfM programs AgiSoft PhotoScan and RealityCapture taking into account the control points from the Faro laser scan. The mean residual errors from the registrations or photogrammetric evaluations are 4-12mm, depending on the selected software. The best completeness and quality of the resulting 3D model was achieved by using laserscan data and images simultaneously.</p>
