According to the high speed bearing failure problem caused by the high temperature, finite element model of high-speed hybrid ceramic angular contact ball bearing is established in this paper. Quantity of heat and heat transfer coefficient are calculated by using the heat transfer and thermodynamics theory, which are boundary condition for the temperature field simulation analysis of ball bearing. The temperature distribution of bearing is obtained when bearing speed is 12000rad/min. The results can provide a theoretical foundation for lubrication cooling system controlling temperature.

The finite element model of the roof of aluminum high-speed train was established, double ellipsoid heat source was employed, and heat elastic-plastic theory was used to simulate welding residual stress of the component under different welding sequence based on the finite element analysis software SYSWELD. The distribution law of welding residual stress was obtained. And the effects of the welding sequence on the value and distribution of residual stress was analyzed. The numerical results showed that the simulation data agree well with experimental test data. The maximum residual stress appears in the weld seam and nearby. The residual stress value decreases far away from the welding center. Welding sequence has a significant impact on the final welding residual stress when welding the roof of aluminum body. The side whose residual stress needs to be controlled should be welded first.

The article has analyzed the changes of temperature of different materials of the spindle, and considered 170SD30 Ceramic Motorized Spindle and the same model Metal Motorized Spindle as the research objects, analyzed the inside heat source and heat transfer mechanism of the high-speed motorized spindle; used finite element software to set up the model of the motorized spindle, and did simulation and analysis. Verified by simulation, heat transfer rate of ceramic materials is slower than the metallic materials, in actual operation of the process, due to different materials have different heat transfer rate, so the temperature distribution of the different materials of motorized spindle are different. This conclusion provides the basis to solve motorized spindle temperature field distribution.

In order to study the distribution of the stress field in the high-speed intermittent cutting process, finite element model of high-speed intermittent cutting is established. Exponential material model of the constitutive equation and adaptive grid technology are applied in the finite element analysis software AdvantEdge. The material processing is simulated under certain cutting conditions with FEM ( Finite Element Method ) and the distribution of cutting force, stress field, and temperature field are received. A periodic variation to the cutting force and temperature is showed in the simulation of high-speed intermittent cutting. Highest value of the milling temperature appears in front contacting area of the knife -the chip.and maximum stress occurs at the tip of tool or the vicinity of the main cutting edge. The analysis of stress and strain fields in-depth is of great significance to improve tool design and durability of tool.

In this study, the crashworthiness of a subway train was assessed by establishing a finite element model for the first three carriages of the train and the track using the Hypermesh software. By utilising the *MAT_HONEYCOMB material model, a honeycomb in an anti-climbing energy-absorbing device was simulated. Moreover, the process of a subway train – travelling at a speed of 25 km/h – colliding with another identical train in a stationary and non-braking state was simulated by employing the finite element analysis software Hypermesh and LS-DYNA. The process of simulation analysis was divided into two parts: (1) analysis of the anti-climbing energy-absorbing devices under static compression for the investigation of energy absorption and (2) collision analysis of the whole train. The contributions of the proposed energy-absorbing structure – at the end of driver’s cab, the coupler and draft gears on each section – to the overall energy absorption in a train collision were calculated. Furthermore, based on the EN15227 standard, the crashworthiness of the train with respect to the survival space for occupants, train acceleration and uplift of wheels relative to the track was evaluated. The coupler of the first carriage fails in a collision at 25 km/h, and the coupler and draft gear are the main energy-absorbing devices. *MAT_HONEYCOMB was used to define the honeycomb materials in anti-climbing energy-absorbing devices and could simulate the mechanical performance thereof. The crashworthiness of the train meets the relevant standard requirements.

Using hot aggregates, in concrete production, results in a drop in compressive strength of the produced concrete. Various methods have been proposed for cooling concrete aggregates. This paper proposes a new design for a conveyor system for cooling the aggregates during hot seasons. Simulation of the heat flow during the cooling process over the conveyor is analyzed with the objective of understanding the effect of the various design parameters and achieving minimum cooling time with the least possible power. A finite element model for the new design is proposed and discussed. Challenges facing numerical simulation are addressed in this paper. The results of the finite element analysis of the new design are presented for various initial conditions and cooling rates.

The objective of this work is to understand the coupling of fluid dynamics and heat transfer during the impact of a millimeter-size water droplet on a flat, solid glass substrate. In this work, a finite-element model is presented which simulates the transient fluid dynamics and heat transfer during the droplet deposition process, considering Laplace forces on the liquid-gas boundary, and the dynamics of wetting. A novel, experimental laser-based method is used to measure temperatures at the solid-liquid interface. This method is based on a thermoreflectance technique and provides unprecedented temporal and spatial resolutions of 1 microsecond and 20 micrometer, respectively. Matching between simulations, temperature measurements and high-speed visualization allows the determination of the interfacial heat transfer coefficient.

The thermal characteristics of the motorized spindle determines maching qualities and cutting capabilities, and is one of the important factors influencing the precision of the high speed NC machine tool. To improve the performance of the high speed machine tool, it is important to study the thermal characteristics of the motorized spindle. It had been studied in two ways: one is finite element analysis by Ansys software, in which the finite element analysis model was built. According to the actual working condition, the heat source and the heat transfer coefficient of every part are calculated. On this basis, the temperature field and temperature rises were gotten in Ansys software. The other way is temperature rises experiment on the motorized spindle test platform. The result was shown in the form of curve. These two ways shown the same result: the highest temperature rise appears in the area of electromotor, then followed by the rolling bearing .The result provides the necessary theory basis for optimizing the structure of the motorized spindle and establishes a basis for the research and application about the high speed spindle.

This paper presents a method to investigate the characteristics of a turning high-speed spindle system. The geometric quality of high-precision parts is highly dependent on the performance of the entire machining system, especially by the main spindle behaviour. The machine tool main spindle units is focused on direct driven spindle units for high-speed and high performance cutting. This paper analyzes the static behavior for a turning machine spindle and presents some activities to improve the CAD model for such complex systems. The proposed models take into account the spindle with the detailed bearing system. The analysis was performed during the design activity and was based on Finite Elements Method. Starting from the 3D designed model, using FEM done by means of ANSYS analysis the structure stiffness was evaluated and, by consequence, the influence on the machine tool precision. The aim of this paper is to develop a finite element model of the machine spindle system and to use this method for design optimization. The 3D model was designed using the SolidWorks CAD software. The static analysis was completed by modal, harmonic response and thermal analysis, but their results will be presented in other papers.

Grinding is one of the most important operations in material processing. The study on grinding mechanism is difficult to carry out because of the difficulty in measuring the actual grinding temperature, stress and strain by experiments. Finite element analysis software Deform-3D is employed to create the Johnson-Cook material constitutive model for high-speed grinding simulation. Grinding model was constructed to reflect the temperature, strain and strain rate in the process of grinding 40Cr steel. The temperature of grinding area in simulation is analyzed to verify whether the finite element model is reasonable.

Three-dimensional finite element model of the mine escape capsule is established. With the different values of explosion shock waves, simulation analysis of the entry locker is performed by using ABAQUS. The simulation results indicate that the mine escape capsule is safe and available if the surge pressure of shock waves is less than 3.5Mpa.
