A series of questionnaire survey on condition of winter heating of residential building and field measure of typical cases were launched in Hangzhou. The characteristics of winter energy utilization in Hangzhou were found out through analyzed the survey data. In addition to air conditioning ,other heating devices are also important in Hangzhou which is a typical city in hot summer and cold winter zone. Moreover, as high as 98% dwelling houses have air-conditions, but in the winter, the number of dwelling house did not open air-conditioning account for about 1/3~1/2. Combined with the analysis of the measured data of typical cases can concluded that winter air conditioning use rate and time length per day are not high. It also shows that, in the hot summer and cold winter area, air conditioning is more important for summer cooling.

Exhaust fans in residential buildings generate energy consumption first by the electricity that they require when operating, but also by extracting heat outside of the building. Nonetheless, these appliances are essential to ensure good indoor air quality. It is thus important to study how occupants in residential buildings use exhaust fans and to assess their impact on the energy performance of buildings. In this paper, a preliminary analysis on these two topics is made based on measured data recorded from a multi-residential building located in Quebec City, Canada. Data show that the use of exhaust fans is variable from a household to another. It was estimated that exhaust devices accounted for approximately 14% of the energy demand of the monitored building.

Most commonly, residents are always arguing about the quality of their high rise residential property. A growing number of high rise residential buildings in Malaysia with differing light well were designed by the structural design and planning since 15 years ago. This light well is defined as an intermediate space area between indoor and outdoor of the high-rise residential building. The questionnaire survey of three high rise residential buildings that have different sizes of the light well and building designed were conducted to make clear the occupants' evaluation about the real quality conditions of the buildings. As a result, the quality of light well is clearly satisfied and well managed by the property manager in their high rise residential buildings.

Based on long-term testing and recording of room temperate in a bedroom of residential buildings in the hot summer and cold winter zone, this assay focuses on comparative analysis of tested results and simulated results derived from the DeST software. It verifies the rationality and reliability of the DeST software, showing the feasibility that software DeST can be applied to analyze the energy consumption of residential building in hot summer and cold winter zone.

Cooling and heating consume a large amount of energy during the operation of residential buildings in the hot summer–cold winter zone. It causes serious ecological damage and negatively affects natural resources. Occupant usage behaviors of cooling and heating systems are driven by various factors, and correlations between the driving factors and corresponding environmental impacts (EIs) are not well quantified. This study focuses on two occupant-related driving factors: household size and age composition, and combines a questionnaire survey, an energy simulation, and an EIs assessment into an integrated model. A case study is conducted in Jiangsu, China, to demonstrate the model. Nearly 1800 samples are collected from a large sample questionnaire survey and then classified into nine household types according to their household sizes and age compositions. The EIs due to cooling and heating of different household types in a typical year are then assessed and compared. The assessment results show that different household types have various environmental performance. Households with larger size, elderly people, and children have higher EIs. This newly established model is applicable and builds a bridge between driving factors and the environmental performance of cooling and heating. These assessment results will help better understand the role of household type.

Abstract The developers need to know what is important to their customers in preparation of new construction of residential buildings. The paper deals with finding the importance of structure, material, cost, time and environmental criteria of residential buildings from the perspective of the future owners. The research methodology that provided the information was questionnaire survey. Research was conducted in two lines. The first line is dedicated to the research of main construction domains of residential building. The second line of the research deals with the specific criteria of main construction domains. The order of importance of the main areas and the specific criteria is determined by analyzing of data through descriptive characteristics: median, modus, variance, average value and by weigh of importance.

With the further promotion to the energy conservation of buildings, the standard of 65 percent energy efficiency is gradually popularized. Because of some existing problems in external insulation Technology, such as security, durability and seepage, Self-insulation technique has been more and more concerned. In this paper, a kind of external insulation scheme and three kinds of Self-insulation schemes are designed for a typical residential building in Wuxi region. These schemes are simulated for energy consumption calculation and Economic Analysis by BECS software. The results show that self-insulation schemes not only meet the standard of 65 Percent Energy Efficiency, but also have more economic benefits than external insulation schemes.

In early 2013, the State Council promulgated the "green building action plan" .This means that the green building will be implemented from the national level in the future and it is of great significance to reduce energy consumption and to promote the development of energy-saving, green and low carbon architecture. In this paper, the suitable method and strategy of green residential building design in the Eastern Henan which based on the analysis of the planning and layout, architectural design, energy utilization and construction methods of existing residential buildings in the area are expounded through the analysis of the entire process of the construction of residential building.

In order to assess the optimal window-wall ratio and the proper glazing type in different air conditioning system operation modes of residential buildings for each orientation in three typical cities in hot summer and cold winter zone: Chongqing, Shanghai, and Wuhan simulation models were built and analyzed using Designer’s Simulation Toolkit (DeST). The study analyzed the variation of annual heating energy demand, annual cooling energy demand, and the annual total energy consumption in different conditions, including different orientations, patterns of utilization of air conditioning system, window-wall ratio, and types of windows. The results show that the total energy consumption increased when the window-wall ratio is also increased. It appears more obvious when the window orientation is east or west. Furthermore, in terms of energy efficiency, low-emissivity (Low-E) glass performs better than hollow glass. From this study, it can be concluded that the influence and sensitivity of window-wall ratio on the total energy consumption are related to the operation mode of air conditioning system, the orientation of outside window, and the glazing types of window. The influence of the factors can be regarded as reference mode for the window-wall ratio when designing residential buildings.

High residential living in Malaysia has not been widely given a significant emphasises in literature despite its increasing scale and significance in the real estate market. The significance of high rise is mainly due the increasing rate of migration from rural to urban. It is estimated a total of 77.2 percent of the Malaysian population lived in urban areas in 2020. Approximately, 30 percent of this urban population lives in strata housing. These percentages are predicted to continue to increase in the future. The emergence of high residential building has been argued as confronting various problems which has considerable impact on this life style. Satisfaction is an important outcome of living in one’s dwelling, although it is not the only consideration. High residential building in Malaysia encountered numerous problems in term of management aspects, legislation aspects, and residents’ satisfaction. The purpose of this paper is to investigate the tenants’ satisfaction living in high residential buildings in Klang Valley. The questionnaires survey is conducted amongst 276 tenants at low cost and medium cost HRB using random sampling in HRB located at areas under jurisdiction Dewan Bandaraya Kuala Lumpur (DBKL), Majlis Bandaraya Subang Jaya (MBSJ), Majlis Bandaraya Shah Alam (MBSA), Majlis Bandaraya Subang Jaya (MBSJ), Majlis Perbandaran Selayang (MPS) and Majlis Perbandaran Ampang Jaya (MPAJ). The result from this study shows that tenant in medium cost residential building are more satisfied in term of facilities and management as compared to tenants in low cost residential building. Tenants also not disclosed to the existing act and procedure related to high residential building. In conclusion, this study suggested the Local Authority to emphasise the role of tenant. These recommendation hopefully will increase the level of satisfaction amongst the residents in HRB.
